Sony – 93,000 PSN/SOE accounts accessed through unauthorized logins

Sony has just announced that almost 93,000 user accounts from PSN, SEN and SOE have been accessed using the password reset trick. They explained that they weren’t hacked but these lists came from other third-party sources.

They have assured customers that they are taking care of this situation and have taken steps to mitigate this perilous situation. All the 93,000 accounts have been blocked and they will have to change the password again.

According to Sony, ‘Less than one tenth of one percent of our PSN, SEN and SOE consumers may have been affected. There were approximately 93,000 accounts (PSN/SEN: approximately 60,000 accounts; SOE: approximately 33,000) where the attempts succeeded in verifying those accounts’ valid sign-in IDs and passwords, and we have temporarily locked these accounts.

‘As a preventative measure, we will be sending email notifications to these account holders and will be requiring secure password resets or informing consumers of password reset procedures.’

Sony also mentioned that Credit Cards were not at risk and only a small amount of accounts showed prior activity. But we request you to be careful. These intrusions happened between October 7th to 1th.
