In a company filing at Japan’s Finance Ministry obtained by Bloomberg has showcased that Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai notched up ¥153 million or $1.6 million in annual compensation in the past financial year. This is at a time when the PlayStation creator posted its first profit in five years.
Considering that the year before, where Hirai posted ¥88 million or $900,000 annual compensation when serving as executive deputy president. Meanwhile, former vice chairman Ryoji Chubachi posted ¥194 million or $1.9 million following his retirement the previous week.
Even it’s not necessarily the highest figures – Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick posted an $8.33 million annual compensation for this financial year – it’s certainly a step up for Hirai especially given his achievements with the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 launches. Hirai ascended the throne to become CEO this past February.
Meanwhile, Sony is prepping for its next big console launch when the next generation PlayStation 4 launches this Holiday season for $399.
