Sony Cuts PS VR2 Production Plans by “About 20%” – Rumour

More reports claim that Sony is cutting down production for its VR headset, amidst talks of a disappointing launch.

The PlayStation VR2 seems to have got off to a rough start. Recent reports have claimed that the virtual reality headset has managed to sell only around 270,000 units so far and that a price cut may be inevitable, and given the headset’s exorbitant price and its lackluster launch lineup, that honestly hasn’t come as a massive shock.

Now, it looks like Sony may be scaling back its plans for the device as well. As per known Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo, the company has cut its production plans for the PS VR2 for the year of 2023 by about 20%. Prior to its launch, reports had claimed that Sony was planning on manufacturing 2 million units of the headset by the end of March alone.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of Sony scaling back PS VR2 manufacturing plans, though Sony has previously moved to deny such reports. That said, it was also reported that due to disappointing pre-orders, the company had halved its forecasted shipments for the VR headset.
