Kaz Hirai, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, says Sony’s home console, the PS3, is well on track of selling 15 million units by the end of this fiscal year, that is March 2011.
After the sudden boost in the sales for the console, thanks to the release of the sleek new Slim version, the sales saw a double year-on year rise in the first quarter of the fiscal year, selling 2.4 million units as opposed to last year’s 1.1 million.
Kaz Hirai, speaking to Reuters, said “”As of the end of August, sales look a bit better than we expected.” He also confirmed that the official sales figures of the PS3 are now at 38 million units sold worldwide, and 80% of these users are members of the PlayStation Network.
Impressive. Keep it up, you might just make it to the second position… maybe… let’s see.
