The Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK have fined Sony for 250,000 pounds for not trying to prevent the PlayStation hack that exposed a lot of personal details of PSN users.
The fine may not be much but the firm’s spokesman has said to BBC that since Sony already lost a lot of money due to the hack, they thought it wouldn’t be wise to fine them a massive amount. The main goal of the fine was to make them aware of the things they could have done to prevent it but they acknowledge that the company was under a series of attacks from hackers.
Sony has appealed that it strongly disagreed and has decided to appeal.
“Criminal attacks on electronic networks are a real and growing aspect of 21st century life and Sony continually works to strengthen our systems, building in multiple layers of defence and working to make our networks safe, secure and resilient,” a spokesman for the firm said.
