Sony Is Being Sued Because Killzone: Shadow Fall’s Graphics Aren’t 1080p

No, seriously.

In what must be the most blatant abuse of the United States Judicial system, a $5 million class action lawsuit is being filed against Sony regarding Killzone Shadow Fall’s graphics. Sony, you will remember, advertised the game as being fully 1080p (they actually advertise all their games as being 1080p- it’s a big talking point for them, but that’s neither here nor there), but it later turned out that the game did not actually output images at that resolution, but that it utilized a shortcut to get functionally the same result. This led to a whole lot of fanboy wars on the forums, and that was that. The game’s already out, and it’s not like anyone in the real world gives a damn, right?

Well, someone does, enough to sue Sony for $5 million in any case. The plaintiff is Douglas Ladore, suing for ‘deceptive marketing.’

“Sony claimed that the PS4 was so powerful that its featured Killzone video game could display ‘1080p’ multiplayer graphics, a crowning achievement in the video game industry,” the suit claims. “However, after the game’s release, gamers quickly noticed and complained that Killzone’s multiplayer graphics were blurry to the point of distraction. The cause of this blurriness went unknown until a well-respected video game website reported that Killzone’s multiplayer did not actually provide ‘1080p’ graphics as advertised.”

This is an absolute mockery of the judicial system, and I hope the suit gets thrown out of court. On that note, I hope these bullshit resolution wars finally come to an end as well. The fact that the number of lines and dots on my screen is more important than the game I am playing speaks volumes about the current mindset of gamers.

Thanks, EuroGamer.
