You know one thing PlayStation systems have historically been bad at? Storage, and by extension, loading times, which often extend into unbearably long minutes. Think about it- when every Xbox console came in built with a hard drive, PS2 was using proprietary memory cards with laughable memory capacities. PSP used grossly overpriced proprietary Memory Sticks that were also prone to corruption; PS3 was the first Sony system to move to an open standard for storage, but suffered from amazingly long long times, most exemplified by the long waits each download and install would take. PS Vita takes the cake, with stupidly overpriced proprietary memory solutions that are also slow as molasses, while PS4 is slow, and doesn’t support any external memory.
Whew. That’s one long list of failures, and it looks like Sony has finally, after two decades of PlayStation, taken the issue to heart. A new job listing has showed up on PlayStation, and it seems to indicate that Sony wants someone who is capable of developing better storage solutions for PlayStation platforms. The listing also makes it sound like existing systems will be reconfigured to allow for better external storage solutions, which means that PS4 and PS Vita’s memory woes may be coming to an end.
Of course, this is a bit of a stretch, considering it’s just a job listing, but at least it shows us that the issue is on Sony’s mind, and that they aren’t oblivious to it.
