PlayStation Is 20 Years Old

Celebrate with this video celebrating 20 years of awesomeness.

20 years ago, Sony, against all odds, entered an industry that was considered to be fiercely insular and competitive, and they stormed it. With their superior third party relations, marketing techniques, and a machine that was far ahead of anything else on the market at the time (although Sega and Nintendo’s own efforts for that generation would soon trump Sony’s), they took over the gaming world.

It’s been 20 years since then, and though Sony has had its ups and downs, each PlayStation machine has ultimately delivered and been worth owning (though the Vita may turn out to be the first exception to that rule). If you have any appreciation for gaming, then you appreciate PlayStation, no matter where your console warrior loyalties may lie.

So come, let’s get together and celebrate 20 years of PlayStation with this stirring tribute Sony put out in Japan to celebrate the occasion. The video serves as a reminder of how much the gaming world has felt the influence of PlayStation, and of the fact that, while the PlayStation 4’s library may be sorely lacking right now (and it is), over time, it will definitely become a console worth owning.
