Sony now granted access to Geohot’s PayPal account

The wars are getting hotter. The latest in the hacking scene tells us that Sony has been granted access to the PlayStation 3 hacker George ‘Geohot’ Hotz’s paypal account.

The reason is obvious. Sony thinks that Hotz accepted donations from people to fund his hacking even though Hotz has maintained that he has not received any.

According to Wired,  Sony have now been authorized to access all ‘documents sufficient to identify the source of funds in California that went into any PayPal account associated with geohot@gmail.com for the period of January 1, 2009, to February 1, 2011.’

Hotz has been accused of breaching the Digital Millennium Copyright Act after he published an encryption key that can allow PlayStation owners to gain control of their consoles.

It will be interesting to see how this one develops.
