Sony Paid $229 Million For Insomniac Games, Per SEC Filing

That's quite the bargain for Sony Worldwide Studios.

Last year it was announced that Insomniac Games had been acquired by Sony. The acquisition was not surprising one, since the two companies have collaborated closely for years, such as on the long running Ratchet and Clank series, or the recent blockbuster Spider-Man. Former Sony Worldwide Studios head Shawn Layden was proud of the buyout, and he should have been, considering the bargain they got.

Via an SEC filing, it was revealed that Sony paid only $229 million for the developer. While that’s nothing to sneeze at per se (that’s far more money than the vast majority of people will ever see), when you consider the kind of money these entities pull in, you’d expect that number to be significantly more. Sounds like Sony got quite the deal.

As of now there’s been no word on what Insomniac Games is working on currently, though logic would dictate a sequel to the massively successful Spider-Man is probably pretty high on the list. The PS5 is right around the corner, too, so hopefully we’ll hear something soon. A recent rumour suggested that the studio could be working on a Ratchet and Clank sequel as PS5 launch title.
