Sony issued a press release this morning in which it said that the company won’t be exhibiting anything at Gamescom this year. That doesn’t mean Sony is going to be going the entire fall without showing something off. The company has decided it makes more sense to instead attend Paris Games Week.
The Paris Games Week kicks off on October 27 in France, while Gamescom 2015 takes place from August 5 to August 9 in Cologne, Germany. In the official release, the company pointed to the timing of E3 this year, as well as the timing of Gamescom playing a rather large part in this decision.
“We’re delighted to announce that we will be hosting an international media briefing at Paris Games Week on 27th October. With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and Gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming. We are excited about our plans and look forward to sharing some exciting announcements. We will share more information closer to the time.” Sony said.
As Sony points out, Paris Games Week takes place smack dab in the middle of the biggest sales period of the year for video games. You have to wonder just what kind of announcements the company is planning, considering it almost certainly won’t be about any games that would be released in 2015’s calendar year. Those worried about Gamescom’s offering being greatly diminished because of Sony’s absence can at least take heart that Blizzard has confirmed it’s still going and has even announced it’s lineup.
