Spelunky 2 Multiplayer Coming to PC in Early December

Two of three "major improvements" have been completed, as per developer Mossmouth.

Though Mossmouth launched Spelunky 2 on PC without multiplayer, it’s planning to add it in early December. In a recent update on Steam, the developer said that two of its three “major improvements” that were planned are complete. It also outlined the reasons for its delay, including how serious some of the issues with PS4 multiplayer were.

To that end, the developer has made “deeper changes” to the internal game logic and rollback “to get it to where we want it to be.” Such changes required extensive testing in order to prevent more issues. In the meantime, Mossmouth is also addressing feedback, like when it tweaked the beginning areas to be less difficult.

It also noted that, “In the end, all of this work is going toward the same place, because Spelunky 2 is a game where the different modes and systems are all very interconnected. So rest assured that anything we’re doing, whether it’s for PS4 or Steam, single-player or multiplayer, local or online, will improve some aspect of the game that you’re interested in!”

Spelunky 2 is currently available for PS4 and PC. Thus far, Mossmouth hasn’t said anything about bringing it to other platforms like Xbox One or even Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime, including a release date for online multiplayer on PC. Check out our official review for the rogue-lite platformer here.
