Spelunky 2 Will Launch Without Multiplayer on PC

Mossmouth is still testing the mode and making improvements.

Mossmouth’s Spelunky 2 is available now on PS4 and quite good based on reviews. However, its multiplayer has faced several issues till now. Because of this “bit of a rocky start”, the developer has announced that the roguelite platformer’s PC version won’t launch with multiplayer.

Over on Steam, Mossmouth stated that it prioritized an earlier release “so that Steam players could enjoy the game ASAP.” This means multiplayer won’t be available and the “Online Co-op” tag has since been removed from the game’s Steam listing. The developer apologized for disappointing players and said that, “Until very recently we were still hoping that we would be able to launch with it as planned.”

Spelunky 2 was slated to launch after the PS4 version so that the developer could iron out any issues with multiplayer. Given the number of issues that have since cropped up, the mode’s delay seems a given (though it’s still being tested and improved upon). The good news is that the additional time will help in implementing cross-platform play between PC and PS4, which should “take a few weeks at most to get online.”

Spelunky 2 is out today for PC. Check out our review of the game here.
