Spider-Man has been selling amazingly well, and it has even received great reviews all around. Its great cast of characters and the way it portrays them so faithfully has been one of its biggest strengths, but as it is with any other video game, it looks like the developers did a fair bit of editing to remove story bits that were making things needlessly complicated. One storyline in particular that had to be cut down was that of Silver Sable, which was initially a bit longer.
Regarding this fact, Creative Director Bryan Intihar said to Kinda Funny Games (you can watch the video below), “It was really hard. I mean, I would say- the story is really, really big, and there’s a lot of characters, and there was a lot of times where we would be putting the game together, and I was like, ‘well this don’t make sense’. There was too much going on. We would have to strip some stuff out. There were characters we had to strip out… I would say Silver Sable’s storyline was originally a little bit bigger, and it was just making things way too complicated.”
Again, it makes sense that the developers started off with a lot of ideas that they wanted to try out, but with many of them not making the final cut. That’s just how the process of writing a story is. I wonder what are some other characters whose stories were cut down, and whether or not they’re being saved for sequels (or perhaps the upcoming DLC episodes). All in all, it looks like it was all for the sake of the complete experience, so it’s definitely understandable.
Spider-Man is currently available exclusively for the PS4.
