Square Enix’s NieR IP went from being a cult hit among a small set of fans to achieving mainstream, widespread success with NieR: Automata in 2017. The action RPG was widely praised, and has gone on to sell gangbusters since then, so it’s not a surprise that Square Enix intends to invest more in the series and capitalize on its success.
NieR Replicant is coming up soon, while NieR Re[in]carnation is going strong on mobile as well, but Square Enix is looking ahead to the future as well. Via the series’ official Twitter page, they recently confirmed that they are looking to recruit developers to work on NieR-related projects. Of course, there’s little to go on right now by way of actual details about what these projects might be, but fans of the series can at least rest easy knowing that there’s stuff to look forward to in the future.
Meanwhile, series creator and director Yoko Taro has some other projects in the works as well. He’s previously confirmed he’s working on two games currently, one of which has been described as an “off-beat” digital-only title. Then again, “off-beat” and Yoko Taro generally go hand-in-hand, so that doesn’t really tell us much.
