At long last, after almost ten years of pining and wishing for it to happen, the world got treated to the debut of the modern, HD remake of Final Fantasy 7, Square Enix’s role playing magnum opus that revolutionized gaming forever back when it originally released in 1997. Since its initial unveil, we have learned a lot about the game, thanks to Square being surprisingly forthcoming about its development- but one thing that no one ever even thought to question has also been clarified by Square. Apparently, the remake will not just be called Final Fantasy 7, or Final Fantasy 7 HD- it has a different name, a name which will be announced later this year.
This news comes to us from the formerly definitive source for Japanese news, Adriansang (they went defunct a few years ago, it is good to see them back). Adriansang also confirmed that the game will deviate from the original, mechanically as well as narratively, though director Nomura stressed that the team was working on making something that would meet all players’ expectations.
Final Fantasy 7 is due out on PS4 in 2016, with a release on other systems to follow. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.
