DICE is no stranger to allaying common fears that fans may be having about the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront game, so it should come as no surprise to just about anyone that DICE developer Jesper Nielsen took to his favorite haunt (that is, Reddit) once again to interact with fans, and answer any questions that they may have had.
This time around, however, his answers came off as encouraging. For instance, he confirmed that the game supports offline game play without any restrictions from the developer side- if there is any internet connectivity required, it would be on an overall, console OS level.
Happily, neither Xbox One nor PS4 require internet connectivity any longer. “I think this is more up to how the Xbox One is setup and configured; I’m on PS4 now, so I’m not up-to-date on what restrictions are currently in place. From our perspective, we support offline play – but we can’t override any restrictions set by the system,” he said.
He also discussed the controversial DLC policy of the game, explaining to fans how even the few extra weeks that they get to work on the add on is helpful to them as developers. “The only DLC we have announced at this time is Battle of Jakku, which is coming in December. So not day 0, but very close to release. This is not because we just choose to strip it from the main game, but because it can be developed in a different timeline and completed later than the main game needs to be completely, since it’s a digital-only delivery. Even if it’s released only a few days after the game itself, it could still have had weeks of extra time to be worked on.”
Personally, I am not sure how I feel about the DLC, in spite of his best attempts to make us feel better about it, though I can confidently say that I am impressed by how well DICE is conducting itself with regards to this game overall. Whether or not the final product lives up to how they are billing it remains to be seen, but on my part, I am optimistic.
