In its latest financial earnings report, Electronic Arts predicted that Star Wars: Battlefront would sell 13 million copies, up from the initially projected 10 million copies, by March 31st 2016. While the game has been a fairly strong, with the publisher calling it the biggest launch for a Star Wars game ever, retails like GameStop have pointed to it falling short of expectations.
EA COO Peter Moore addressed this comments, stating that its forecasts hadn’t changed. Speaking at Credit Suisse conference to investors, Moore said that, “[GameStop’s] comments were interesting and little bit of a surprise to us particularly as the CFO in the call then started to correct the COO [Bartel] as the call went on.
“So from our perspective I’m here to reaffirm our guidance of 13m units sold in for the fiscal year. There is no weakness that is perceptible yet in the title and I want everybody understand that based on where we think this title is, and based on the marketing beats ahead of us – in particular the movie launch over the next two weeks, we feel very comfortable we’re going to hit the guidance that we’ve given analysts, investors and Wall Street alike.”
Star Wars: Battlefront is also going strong on a content front – those who pre-ordered the game will be receiving new maps and a new mode with Battle of Jakku and more free and paid content has been promised for the future.
