Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Director Talks God of War 3 Influences

Stig Asmusses speaks about how his previous game has influenced his upcoming one.

We’ve learned a great deal of new details about the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, from its difficulty options to its bold decision to not have fast travel system, and in light of all these new details emerging, anticipation for the game is beginning to ramp up. Another little piece of trivia that’s inspired plenty of confidence in the game is the fact that it’s being directed by Stig Asmussen, the man who also directed the gargantuan spectacle that was God of War 3.

Fallen Order is, of course, a very different game from Asmussen’s previous game, but he’s still taken cues from his work on it and taken it into his work on Respawn’s upcoming action adventure title. Speaking with Esquire, Asmussen talked about how his experience with God of War helped define how he approaches design and production decisions during development in general.

“I worked on God of War 1 through God of War 3, and obviously that made an influence on me, not only on a design standpoint, but from a production and ‘how you make games’ approach—the standard for where your bar is, what kind of quality, that kind of thing,” he said. “But, to be honest with you, I’d be lying to you if I didn’t say Star Wars influenced the work that I did on God of War games and other games that I’ve worked on. So, it’s funny that it goes full circle.”

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out on November 15 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, after having recently wrapped up development. The game will require over 40 GB of free storage space on consoles, while it will also have visual and performance enhancements on the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro.
