Respawn Entertainment are putting hell of a lot of emphasis on narrative with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (so much so that multiplayer and microtransactions simply do not factor in at all), so where curiosity surrounding its story would have been sky-high as it is – considering it’s a Star Wars story – that curiosity has been driven up even further.
Fallen Order sees players stepping into the shoes of Cal Kestis, a Padawan in hiding and on the run following the execution of Order 66 and the destruction of the Jedi order. According to director Stig Asmussen, the story is very much going to be focused on a relatively smaller cast of character (many of whom we’re yet to be introduced to), with the director likening it to a “man vs wild story”.
“We do have more characters to reveal,” said Asmussen when asked about the more “lonesome” vibe that the game’s reveal trailer seemed to give off. “The trailer showed Cere. We knew we weren’t going to be able to make a game that has huge crowds in it. I don’t want to worry about things like creating crowd tech. We decided to make a story that’s more ‘man versus wild.’ That allowed us range to go to different places and explore different places. It’s not just Cal versus the environment, but also Cal versus the elements. To a certain extent, the Empire versus the elements as well.”
We’ve been able to learn plenty about Fallen Order in the last couple of days, even in the absence of a gameplay trailer. Make sure to read up about how the game’s combat functions, and why there will be no stealth elements involved. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launches on November 15 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
