Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order seems like a game that is very uncharacteristic of EA. It’s putting a great deal of emphasis on narrative and storytelling, it has absolutely no microtransactions and multiplayer, it’s not running on the Frostbite engine– and it’s also a Star Wars game that hasn’t been cancelled. You don’t see a lot of that coming out of EA.
That’s because Jedi: Fallen Order is a game that was Respawn Entertainment’s vision, rather than EA’s. Recently, EA’s community engagement specialist for Star Wars, Jay Ingram, was on hand at Twitter to answer a few questions from fans, where he suggested that EA didn’t have much to do with how Fallen Order’s turning out, saying, “EA doesn’t prescribe games to developers, just greenlights them.”
Considering the fact that Respawn dropped development on another title that they had been working on so they could instead work on Fallen Order, it’s clear to see that this is game they really want to make- the fact that EA has approved of its single player-only nature – which seems antithetical to the company’s philosophies – isn’t any less surprising though.
Ingram also spoke about a few other things while responding to other fans. For starters, he suggested that we’ll be seeing and hearing more about Fallen Order come June (probably at E3, then), while also speaking about the game’s structure. Ingram mentioned that players will be able to “re-explore” locations, saying, “as you play the game, Cal’s abilities will allow him to access places he couldn’t formerly go to”- which sounds like metroidvania to me.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out on November 15 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
