With Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora coming last December and Star Wars Outlaws releasing as recently as last month, Ubisoft studio Massive Entertainment has certainly been busy, but of course, it has other things in the pipeline as well. Roughly year ago, Ubisoft and Massive announced that they had started early development on The Division 3, and that Julian Gerighty – who co-directed both previous instalments – would be serving as the sequel’s executive producer, with plans to step into that role after his duties as Star Wars Outlaws’ creative director were fulfilled.
And with Outlaws now out for roughly a month, Gerighty is indeed preparing to transition to his next project. Speaking with Game File, he revealed that he will continue to oversee the recently-released sci-fi title for another month or so, following which he will shit his focus to The Division 3. In his stead, a team of “very seasoned Massive people” will continue to work on Star Wars Outlaws.
Ubisoft recently announced that Star Wars Outlaws had failed to sell to expectations upon release, with prior reports estimating less than million units sold by the end of August. On November 21, the game will release for Steam, and receive its first expansion, Wild Run. The next expansion, A Pirate’s Fortune, will launch sometime in spring 2025, while the game’s next free patch is coming on October 3.
