With Star Wars Outlaws launching on November 21st for Steam alongside its first story DLC, Wild Card, Massive Entertainment is prepping its biggest update yet. Promising wholesale changes to the combat, creative director Drew Rechner has outlined some in new Dev Update post.
These include updated stats for all weapons and enemies (with headshots becoming “more rewarding”) and weak points on tougher foes to allow for precision hits. Enemies will also have new hit reactions and defeat animations. The team also went over every aspect of its weapons to tune their audio, UI, effects, and feel, resulting in changes like a revamped shooting pattern for the Ashiga ABR-2 Zato Blaster Rifle.
Existing tools have expanded uses, like the Power module taking down enemies in cover and the Ion module causing stunned enemies to take more damage. Players will also have more hands-on time with dropped enemy weapons and can even hang onto them when climbing or exploring.
“This change, which was highly requested, means you can now make longer-term strategic choices, get more rewarded for turning enemy weapons against them, and have more varied combat encounters,” says Rechner. The cover system is also improved, as players can manually swap shoulders while aiming. Overall, it should feel more “comfortable and stable” to use with smoother animations.
Stay tuned for the full patch notes when Title Update 1.4 arrives later this week. Star Wars Outlaws is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review here.
