Valve has released a few figures for Steam, and boy, are they impressive.
Steam hit 6.6 million concurrent users last Sunday, as compared to the 5 million concurrent users at the beginning of 2012. The online service got to the 6 million mark last November. What this means is that Steam’s concurrent users’ numbers are growing at a 300 per cent faster rate than what they were growing at at the beginning of 2012.
The still unreleased Dota 2, Football Manager 2013 and Team Fortress 2 have played a major part in this growth, though they cannot be held solely responsible for it.
Those are very impressive numbers indeed, and you’ve got to wonder how, all of a sudden, the service has exploded so much. Sure, it was extremely popular before as well, but those numbers are astronomical.
Surely, Valve’s strategy with Greenlight and Big Picture and the rest must be working wonders.
