Though its official name hasn’t been announced, the developer confirmed a worldwide reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20th. The last major teaser was showcased in February 2021, featuring a quick montage of images like a mysterious run-down building, a car on the road and some terrifying monster.

That monster could be the “they” that the teaser hints at but we’ll need to wait and see. We know that the title is a new IP, with Tarsier Studios no longer working on future instalments in the Little Nightmares series after being acquired by the Embracer Group. Supermassive Games is working on Little Nightmares 3, launching in 2025, alongside The Casting of Frank Stone, which releases on September 3rd.

It’s also seemingly revealing The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020, the first title in the second season of its horror series, at Gamescom later this month. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.

As an open-world farming title with mechs, Lightyear Frontier allows up to four players to team together and explore a planet. Building a farm, gathering resources and discovering landmarks is a key part of the experience, and you can also customize the mechs. According to the Steam listing, it will stay in early access for 1.5 years, but plans could change.

The early access version includes the initial zone (the beginning of Act 1) and core features with new zones, upgrade tiers, animals, resources, more neighbors, “community-suggested” content and missions. There will also be mini updates with bug fixes, improvements to quality of life and accessibility and more. Check out the post-launch roadmap below for more details.

Narrated by Lightyear Frontier‘s community manager Sebastian, the trailer highlights the game’s unique twist on the genre. Rather than focusing on social aspects or survival, Lightyear Frontier instead focuses on being a relaxing game.

The trailer shows off various aspects of the game, including farming, resource gathering, exploration, and building. The central theme of the game seems to revolve around building a sustainable habitat and leaving in tune with nature.

Originally announced back in June, Lightyear Frontier doesn’t seem to have much in the way of story. Although it does have some background lore, as the player will be able to discover by exploring the plant they’re on. It also supports solo play as well as co-op multiplayer with up to three more players.

Lightyear Frontier is coming to PC, and Xbox Series X/S in Spring 2023. The game will also be available on Xbox and PC Game Pass on launch.

Described as a peaceful sci-fi farming simulator, Lightyear Frontier sees players arriving on a new and beautiful planet, settling down, and starting a new home. Playable solo and with up to three more players, the game task you with building your own homestead, harvesting and farming alien crops, and exploring the unfamiliar environments, all while expanding and improving your own alien world farm. It’s looking like a unique twist on a well-worn formula that genre fans will want to keep an eye on.

A launch window for the game has also been confirmed. Lightyear Frontier is due out in Spring 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will also be available on Game Pass at launch.
