Check out the newest game by Maxi Boch, Bennett Foddy, and Gabe Cuzzillo- Baby Steps, which is a literal physics-based walking simulator.

During Devolver Direct 2023, a team of developers that includes Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennett Foddy announced literal walking simulator Baby Steps. Check out the trailer for the incredibly strange game below.

Baby Steps puts players into the shoes of Nate as he finds himself transported to a mysterious place. Players will have to hike the game’s mountains and explore its fields with a unique control scheme that has them placing each individual footstep by themself.

The game features fully-simulated physics-based walking, a dynamic soundtrack that changes depending on the situation players will find themselves in, and a lengthy trek up a mountain that can be explored at the player’s own pace. The game’s soundtrack is built out of over 420 beats and vibes.

The development team behind Baby Steps has quite a bit of pedigree, such as Ape Out developer Maxi Boch, and Bennett Foddy, who is known for his work on Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy and QWOP.

Thousands of music samples, different vibes, and one simulated drummer make it all come together.

Devolver Digital’s Ape Out released recently and offered the kind of satisfying mayhem that only an ape escaping from imprisonment and murdering dozens of guards could. However, more than the action, it’s the music in the game which is getting a lot of attention. The percussion-heavy soundtrack reacts to the player’s actions quite well. Almost a little too well at times.

Thus did the publisher release a new trailer, which discusses the game’s “reactive music system”. Think of a simulated drummer behind the scenes who’s responding to your actions, speeding up and slowing down depending on the tempo of the action. With thousands of samples to draw from and unique sounds for each area, Ape Out promises a unique experience in each playthrough.

Though it could be viewed as a Hotline Miami clone, Ape Out still offers a compelling and stress-relieving gameplay loop. There’s just something so satisfying about shoving a guard into a wall and watching him splatter. Plus it looks so incredibly stylish. Ape Out is out now for PC and Nintendo Switch.
