As the global community still grapples with the COVID outbreak, it doesn’t really feel much like Halloween, does it? Yet, in only a couple of days it will be the beloved spooky holiday. For this week the Epic Games Store is giving you some early treats that’s a big fit for the faithful day.

This week you’ll be able to redeem Blair Witch. The game is from Bloober Team and is set in the same universe of the film franchise of the same name. You and your dog, Bullet, will find yourselves trapped in some haunted woods as all types of strange things happen. The second game is Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered. It reunites the original cast and tells a story that picks up not long after the second film. It’s a big treat if you’re a Ghostbusters fan, and if you haven’t played it, you really should.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered and Blair Witch will be free on Epic Games Store until November 5th, and you can redeem them through here or the official client. After them, the free title will be Wargame: Red Dragon.

The VR version is more than a port it seems.

It was last year when we got the surprising horror game from Bloober Team, Blair Witch. The game was set in the same canon as the horror franchise that essentially invented the found footage genre. It released originally on Xbox One and PC, and then trickled to other platforms, and was a solid enough game. Now, though, it’s coming to a new platform with some big changes.

The game will be getting a VR title just in time for Halloween, called the Oculus Quest Edition, but it seems to be more than a simple port with tacked on VR. Bloober says that the story has been rebuilt with extended interactions and that environments have been redesigned with VR in mind, which you can see a little of in the trailer below. It’s not clear as of yet the extent of these redesigns, but it could warrant a revisit even if you have played the game already.

Blair Witch, in its original non-VR form, is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. The Oculus Quest Edition will launch on October 29th.

The woods can be dangerous, especially in these games.

Spooky locations persist in a number of video games but there’s something especially eerie about forests. Perhaps it’s the surrounding trees and how they’re seemingly watching the player. Maybe it’s the atmosphere that can go from still to terrifying in an instant. Whatever the case may be, let’s take a look at 15 spooky forests from various games.

Yagata Forest – Ghost of Tsushima

According to legends, the spirits of fallen samurai reside in the trees of Yagata Forest, apparently whispering among themselves. Jin will eventually investigate the legend and encounter hanging bodies before fighting off bandits. The bandits are revealed to be leveraging the legend and causing trouble for anyone who stumbled into the forest. But even with that aside, it’s the quiet, foreboding atmosphere that contributes to the spookiness more than anything else.

One of the key elements of any good horror story is that you just never know, and there’s always some kind of mystery. Well, that kind of surprise sure did happen last year when Bloober Team announced that they would be releasing a new Blair Witch game, which came completely out of nowhere. The game has come out to other home consoles already, but soon you can actually take this out into some actual haunted woods.

As you can see below, the developer announced that the game will be coming to Switch near the end of next month. It will include the full game, as well as the “Good Boy Pack” DLC that let’s your personalize your dog companion and adds animations and a new minigame. This version will also support both HD rumble and touch controls.

Blair Witch is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The Switch version launches on June 25th. You can check out our review of the game through here.

Bloober Team’s first per horror game Blair Witch is coming to the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo announced yesterday during their Indie World Direct presentation. Soon afterward, Bloober Team also released a new announcement trailer for the Switch version of their game- take a look below.

Blair Witch originally launched as a console exclusive (which, of course, means it came to PC as well) in August of 2019 for the Xbox One. That was followed shortly afterward by a launch on the PS4 in December just a few months afterward. With the Switch, it will now be on all currently active systems- and will also be playable on the go, which means you can run for your lives through creepy woods from a terrifying woods while you’re on the bus (or, you know, self-quarantine, given the situation these days).

Blair Witch will be out for the Switch this Summer, but a more specific release date hasn’t yet been confirmed. You can read our review for the game from back when it first launched through here.

The set-up and plot have all led to this but somehow the ending seems off.

Getting the ending right for a video game should be easy – it’s effectively the crescendo to all the story-telling set up till that point. And while some of us may agree or disagree on the best ways to end a story, a good ending takes everything to account and produce a result that’s within believable means. Then there are the games which just don’t know how to end, rendering hours and hours upon story-telling into one big pile of “Meh”. Let’s take a look at 15 such titles here.

Blair Witch

Protagonist Ellis suffers from PTSD and enters the haunted woods to locate a missing boy named Peter. As it turns out, he’s been constantly seeing the face of a girl that he failed to save during the war, not to mention being haunted by the his comrades that died by his negligence. He enters the infamous house from the first film and kind of has to avoid shining a flashlight on a creature who may or may not be the Blair Witch? Long story short, Ellis dies. Peter could be discovered safe depending on the player’s actions or be killed. The only really important detail is that Bullet survives. That’s it.

Christmas is about to get decidedly spooky for PlayStation owners.

Blair Witch, the video game based on the classic “found camera footage” horror movie, is going to be coming to the PS4 next month, developers Bloober Team announced today. The game had originally launched for Xbox one and PC back in August.

Blair Witch isn’t the best game in the world, and its reception was decidedly muted, though its rather interesting approach to adapting its source material has won it a certain subset of fans. That subset should only continue to grow, now that an entirely new audience will have its hands on it.

PS4 players will get the Good Boy Pack with the game, which lets you customize your canine companion, as well as gets you new in-game cellphone wallpapers. The Good Boy Pack will also be made available separately for Xbox One and PC players to purchase.

If you are interested in learning more about the game, make sure to check out our review for it. Flaws and all, we feel like it’s certainly a game worth experiencing for horror game enthusiasts.

For all the best chills and thrills, these games come highly recommended.

Horror is always such a difficult genre to pull off. It requires correct timing, the appropriate narrative and proper build-up. Still, everyone is scared of something especially in video games. So let’s take a look at the 30 best horror games ever made and why you should experience them.

Amnesia Collection

Frictional Games was no stranger to the horror gaming scene thanks to the Penumbra series. However, Amnesia: The Dark Descent completely blew away expectations. Its tale of confusion and mystery, highlighted by the protagonist’s amnesia, clashed with the oppressive shadow that constantly sought out players. Amnesia: The Dark Descent delivered a compelling psychological horror experience that was simple but still wholly terrifying. The Amnesia Collection features the first game, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs (developed by The Chinese Room) and Amnesia: Justine. While the latter two range from above average to good, the entire collection is a steal for the amount of scares it provides.

It may not have swept the competition but Microsoft's console still offers some great games.

The Xbox One hasn’t seen as much stellar software as the PS4 over the years. However, there’s still a good line-up of console exclusives to experience. Many of them are even available on Xbox Game Pass, offering tons of hours of fun for a low price. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the 25 best Xbox One games of all time, ranked from bottom to top.

Crackdown 3

Okay, so Crackdown 3 isn’t the greatest open world game out there. But it offers a decently sized city with plenty to blow up and lots of different things to do. The Skills for Kills system encourages taking down foes with a variety of weapons and abilities, and hunting down different crime bosses while laying waste to their businesses can be mindless fun. It’s Crackdown-rific, and that may work for certain people.

Seems like the right length for a horror game.

Bloober Team will be back soon with another horror title, and this one is promising to be a very intriguing one. Blair Witch, with the promise of its creepy atmosphere, time loops, and the inherent draw of the property it’s based on, can be a special game if all goes well, and many are looking forward to get their hands on it.

But how long is it going to be? That’s a question we ask about pretty much every game, and while “the more, the better” is usually a good mantra to follow for most games, for horror titles, that’s not always true. Thankfully, it looks like Blair Witch is landing in a pretty sweet spot as far as length is concerned.

Speaking with Gamewatcher, Maciej Glomb of Bloober Team says the game is going to be between five and six hours long. As far as replayability is concerned, in addition to the game having multiple endings, Glomb says replaying the entire game the second time also makes for a different experience.

“I think it might be cool to play it once more to just you know, with this knowledge of how the game ends from the beginning. It makes the experience completely different,” he said.

Blair Witch is out on August 30th for the Xbox One and PC.
