Nintendo brings the classic throwback to the West in 2014.

Though we covered news of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, the critically acclaimed spiritual successor to Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, being localized for Western audiences, an official announcement of the game for North America and Europe was pending.

Lo and behold, Nintendo has announced that it will be publishing the game to North American and European gamers in 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS.

Flying Fairy is a throwback to the classic style of Final Fantasy RPGs but with a bit of a twist: You can assume different jobs in the game, which are tied to crystals. Each crystal unlocks new jobs including Black Mage, White Mage, Knight and much more to be discovered over the game. Heck, even enemies have jobs.

With multiple sub-scenarios, characters and endings, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy should make an excellent addition to the 3DS library in the West. Stay tuned for more details on an upcoming release date.

Square Enix's excellent handheld RPG could be arriving in North America and Europe.

The spiritual sequel to Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, Bravely Defaulty: Flying Fairy, may be seeing a Western release some time soon. According to Siliconera, which had a chance to confirm the same with many trusted sources at this year’s Game Developers Conference, the game will be localized for English-speaking audiences.

Square Enix hasn’t officially announced the same however. And if it indeed will be localized, that it remains to be seen just when the game will see release.

However, given the game’s critical and commercial success in Japan and the overall lack of RPGs for Nintendo’s 3DS handheld, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy would make an excellent addition to the lineup. This is especially so in the case of its mechanics, which are throwback to old-school turn based battles but also featuring cutscenes and voice acting.

It will be interesting to see whether the game indeed sees a Western release. Stay tuned for more.

Square-Enix doesn’t usually generate a ton of buzz these days with it’s game announcements. Okay, yes, some of them are interesting and exciting, like the opening of Square-Enix Montreal to develop yearly Hitman games. Or the various cross promotional content for Sleeping Dogs and Hitman: Absolution. But in terms of games, it’s the same old routine with the company.

So when they register something new entirely, like they’ve done with “All The Bravest”, it generates the required buzz.

According to Fusible, the company trademarked the title, along with registering the domain names “AllTheBravest.com” and “AllTheBravest.net” through domain management company Thomson Brandy on November 29, 2012. A European Community Trademark for the same was also filed.

Some people feel that this might be Bravely Default, or even an addition to that series which includes an RPG (Flying Fairy) and a free-to-play game (Playing Brage). Then again, it could be something new altogether.

We’ll just have to wait and watch, as usual.

One thing is for clear – there are plenty of talented designers at Square Enix, and this trailer conveys that well.
