These include a bow, sword, and chain hook, though fairy companion Faie also chimes in with special magic like short-range teleportation, which is perfect for bypassing obstacles. Elliot can also use it to dash over quickly crumbling platforms.

While the combat looks solid, the story is perhaps the most intriguing aspect, as the trailer hints at time travel amid an ongoing war between beast tribes that humanity is caught between. How this will influence the overall narrative remains to be seen, so stay tuned for more updates.

The Adventurers of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 next year. A free demo is available now on the eShop.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales will make use of the same HD-2D art style that was first made famous by the original Octopath Traveler and has gone on to become Square Enix’s art style of choice for its Dragon Quest remakes. Unlike both Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, however, the gameplay this time around will not be turn-based. Rather, it is an action RPG featuring real-time hack-and-slash combat.

The story seemingly involves traveling through time as being one of its major motifs. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales takes place on the continent of Philabieldia, which the trailer describes as being “overrun by beast tribes”. Humanity survives in the kingdom of Huther thanks to the spell of safekeeping.

The story kicks off when a set of ruins is discovered in the wilds outside of Huther’s castle walls. Heading up the investigation behind these ruins is an adventurer, Elliot, alongside Faie the Fairy. The duo have to set out beyond the walls of Huther and explore the world to figure out the secrets behind the ruins.

Despite being an action RPG, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales won’t have fast-paced combat. Rather, players are encouraged to pay attention to enemy attacks and strike only when they find an opening in their defenses. Along with swords, players will also have access to other weapons, like chains and sickles and bows. All in all, the title will feature seven distinct weapon types, each of which can be upgraded by using materials known as Magicite.

Since Faie will also have gameplay options and help out in fights and puzzle solving, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales also features a two-player mode where both players can take on the role of one of the two characters each.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS5, and PC in 2026. A demo has gone live, however, and is available on the Nintendo eShop.

To celebrate this occasion, the role-playing game is discounted by 30 percent for Switch in Japan (while the PC version receives its discount starting tomorrow). Featuring a brand new story and setting, Bravely Default 2 features four main characters – Seth, Gloria, Elvis and Adelle – traveling the land to retrieve the four Crystals. Combat utilizes the “Brave” and “Default” systems which allows for “banking” actions for later turns.

It also offers a wealth of Jobs from the default Freelancer to Black Mage, White Mage, Swordmaster and much more. As players defeat different bosses, they’ll gain access to new Jobs and their abilities. For more details on Bravely Default 2, check out our review of the Switch version here.

Bravely Default 2 takes place in Excillant and follows the sailor Seth, who washes ashore one day. His travels lead him to meet Gloria, who looks to stop the theft of the Crystals after the destruction of her kingdom. Eventually, they encounter Elvis and Adelle, the former a scholar and the latter a mercenary as they attempt to decipher a mysterious book.

Bravely Default 2 has sold almost a million copies thus far and while the next title is in the “planning phase,” it will be another three to four years before it releases.

Square Enix announced in a recent press release that Bravely Default 2 has sold nearly a million copies on the Switch since its launch in February- over 950,000 copies, to be exact, which is a pretty solid figure. With the game also coming to PC in just a few days’ time, it seems likely that it will continue to sell pretty well for the foreseeable future.

Bravely Default 2 is a brand new entry in the series and see the Four Heroes of Light – Seth, Gloria, Adelle and Elvis – traversing Excillant in search of the Crystals. Along with a gorgeous visual style, the RPG features new Jobs with the ability to assign one as the primary and another as secondary to benefit from mixed skill sets. This is in addition to the traditional Brave and Default combat system.

Though the aesthetic most closely resembles Bravely Default 2, Brilliant Lights is an original story which sees several worlds throughout the series crossing over. Of course, along with familiar characters, players can also expect some new ones to also appear. The combat system has also been described as optimized for smartphones but more details have yet to be revealed.

Square Enix also confirmed in its press release that the Bravely Default series has crossed three million shipments and digital sales worldwide since the first game launched in 2012. A release window for Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights hasn’t been provided yet so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

The original Bravely Default opened the industry’s eyes to the fact that there was a lot of demand for classic, old-school, turn based JRPGs, and though games that have followed in its footsteps certainly lack the novelty factor, they have continued to prove that there’s a market for them. The most recent, Bravely Default 2, launched for the Switch recently, and it’s been quite well received by most who have played it.

To highlight some of the critical praise the game has enjoyed of late, Square Enix have released an accolades trailer. It’s a pretty short one, showing bits and pieces of the story and gameplay, while highlighting praise for its combat system, above all. Check it out below.

Nintendo continues to see success with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury which spends its third week on top of UK physical sales charts according to Gfk Chart-Track. Interestingly, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales managed to climb all the way up from seventh to second place. This is thanks to PS5 stock seeing a surge, resulting in 172 percent increased sales for the title week-on-week.

It narrowly missed the number one spot by 1,000 units though. Demon’s Souls also saw a 123 percent sales increase, going from outside the top 40 to placing 21st in the past week. PS5 boxed sales were up by 64 percent week-on-week overall.

However, the biggest sales increase for a Sony exclusive this week went to The Last of Us Part 2. Thanks to a big discount, its sales surged by 3992 percent, earning a spot in third place. In terms of new titles, Persona 5 Strikers debuted in fifth place with the PS4 version making up 72 percent of its total sales. Bravely Default 2 on the Switch debuted in 11th place.

Bravely Default 2 is coming out soon, bringing more classic old-school turn-based JRPG action to the Nintendo Switch, which means reviews for the game are about to begin dropping soon. The first of those is here, from Japanese magazine Famitsu, and based on these early impressions, things look god for the RPG.

Famitsu has awarded the game a total score of 36/40 (via Ryokutya), with each of its four reviewers awarding the game a 9/10. Praise is given to the game’s classic, old-school style, and its story, among other things. Though the game’s score is lower than what the outlet awarded to the original Bravely Default (which received a total of 38/40), it’s landed on the exact score that Bravely Second: End Layer received when it launched in Japan in 2015.
