You can now have two players on PC but there are some bugs.

Following backlash from fans upon the discovery that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 on PC didn’t support offline co-op (with clarifications only issued on the day of release), Capcom has now added split-screen co-op to the game on Steam. The feature is in the beta stage as of now and if you have two controllers that support XInput, you can give it a shot. Local-co-op support is available in both the campaign and Raid mode.

The interface hasn’t been changed to accommodate co-op support but you should be able to access it. In campaign mode, simply hit the Start button on the second controller during gameplay. In Raid mode, press the Start button in the starting area. If you exit campaign or Raid mode, the game will automatically return to a single-player set-up.

Head here for more information on how to set up co-op support via Steam. What are your thoughts on the overall game so far? Let us know in the comments.

Want some semblance of a story in-game? Well too bad.

Ubisoft’s Far Cry 4 will support a co-operative mechanic, one that was hyped up decently when the developer revealed Keys to Kyrat for the PS4. This enabled your PSN friends to play the game with you in up to ten sessions of two hours each without owning the game themselves.

In conversation with Trusted Reviews, senior level designer Vincent Ouellette clarified exactly how the co-op worked. “[Keys to Kyrat] is for a limited time. You get two hours to play the game, but that can be broken down to different sections.

“The co-op is limited to the open world portions of the game. So your friend invites you in and you can do as much stuff as you want in two hours – go as far as you can.”

Ouellette further explained that, “As soon as you have a friend jump into your game, the story is not told by the game anymore. It’s the story that you make up with your friends. A game like Far Cry has so many toys and gadgets and that huge open world that you can just cause chaos in and do all those crazy things inside that. So it’ll be great to have a friend to come and f**k things up with you.”

Far Cry 3 didn’t have the open world aspects available to players, instead following a linear story campaign involving different characters. Far Cry 4 seems to be going the other direction but will a lack of story motivate players? We’ll find out when the game releases in November.

The Assassins are back and bloodier than ever.

Microsoft kept the hits coming at its E3 media briefing with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Unity making its world premiere. The gameplay was showcased and Ubisoft confirmed that the game will include 4 player co-op, allowing players to create their own brotherhood with three other players.

The footage showcases the new Parkour mechanics allowing players to vault off of walls effortlessly. You can also assassinate enemies around corners. Eventually all Hell breaks loose and we can get a look at an assassination from the first person perspective of foes. The French Revolution is apparently in full effect and is as gruesome as could be. So, uh, go Assassins we suppose.

Assassin’s Creed Revolution will be releasing in the Holiday season for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. What are your thoughts on the gameplay reveal? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more updates from Microsoft’s E3 2014 media briefing.

A recently pulled listing from the Xbox One store indicates as much.

We already know that Insomniac Games has plans to ride into E3 with a monstrous bus-like creature to showcase its upcoming Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive. But we’re far more interested in what the game itself has to offer – and it turns, there will be plenty to do in the open world playground.

A recently pulled Xbox One store listing for Sunset Overdrive spotted by MP1st indicates that the game will support co-op for a whopping 8 players. So the reveal trailer showcasing friends in high places showing up and there to help you out wasn’t total hogwash after all. The listing refers to this as Chaos Squad, and you’ll work together with friends to eliminate hordes of the OD’d.

Sunset Overdrive is currently rumoured to be releasing later this year for Xbox One, though an official confirmation is still pending. Hopefully, we get to see Chaos Mode in action this E3 so stay tuned for more details.

Horror element goes down significantly with more humans added.

Alien: Isolation was recently unveiled by Sega and will deliver on a survival horror first person experience that ties in with the films. We know it will feature a single-player story but The Creative Assembly team members have confirmed that there won’t be a co-op option.

Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, creative lead Al Hope state that, “It’s very much about a single player experience. We did think about it, it’s not like we never considered it – and we had some pretty neat ideas around that. But for us the focus always was that single player experience.

“And I think because you have this dynamic alien and it’s about the player’s choices while they play it, it does mean that you can go back and try different stuff out. So I think there is a lot of scope to have players go back and do things differently.”

UI lead Jon McKellan also remarked that some of the horror is stymied with the more humans you adds. “I think that as soon as you up the amount of humans then you’re no longer as ‘outnumbered.’ You know, if you had two or three humans facing up against one alien it’s a completely different experience where you’re working together to overcome it rather than just trying to survive. It just felt better to leave it single player.”

Thus far, it’s been confirmed that the developer will aim for native 1080p on both the PS4 and Xbox One. Alien: Isolation will also arrive on PC in Q4 2014.

Capcom Vancouver's Mike Jones talks about more than two players for co-op.

Capcom Vancouver hasn’t been having the best day as far Dead Rising 3 has been concerned. First, it was revealed that the game would be running at 720 with a locked 30 FPS frame rate. Now, producer Mike Jones has revealed that originally, the game’s co-op mode featured four players but had to be brought down to two players since it was affecting the network fidelity.

Speaking to OXM, Jones stated that, “We played around with different ideas. The main challenge that we set out on was the scale of the world, making this massive world with more density than ever before, more weapons than ever before, more stuff than ever before, and getting all that working on the Xbox One with a visual fidelity upgrade. And then being able to network all that reliably with no tethering – that was a huge accomplishment for us, right?

“Obviously we’d like to have three players, four players, more players, and we did some rough tests, and the networking fidelity started to break down.”

This doesn’t mean the co-op mode isn’t worth it. As Jones states that, “In Dead Rising 2, it was just a clone of the hero, and all you could do was grind experience – it wasn’t part of the story. So this time we thought let’s make the co-op player part of the story.

“He’s his own character, he can do all the stuff Nick can, you can change your clothes, make combo weapons, anything you earn in the game or put in the game you can bring back to your game – and let’s figure out how to use the cloud to asynchronously save story progress so that if you’re the client you get mission progress as well.

“If you unlock a chapter or side missions or whatever, you can go back to your game and skip those or replay those, if the host makes a story decision you don’t like, you can go back and change the direction of the game. We put a lot of emphasis on making a two player co-op game and making it more meaningful, and for the next game we’ll set loftier goals – now that we have our open world, now that we have our networking tech.”

Dead Rising 3 will launch on November 22nd for the Xbox One.

Treasure Games’ Ikaruga has appeared on Steam Greenlight and can be voted for in order to make it to Steam Store. If you haven’t heard of it, then it’s one of the better shoot ’em ups of the previous generation. Having released on the Dreamcast and then for the Nintendo GameCube before making its way Xbox Live Arcade and eventually Android earlier this year. Now you can have it on PC, if you vote now.

Ikaruga may seem like a relatively simple SHMUP, but it’s much more difficult than it seems. You can flip between black and white states to bounce back black and white bullets. You’ll need to play it yourself to see just how it plays out. The Steam version will include gamepad support and two player co-op along with two-player local play using a single controller. Other than that, it’s Ikaruga as you remember it.

Head here to vote for Ikaruga on Steam Greenlight.

Dick joins Nick on his journey through zombieland.

Capcom has revealed that Dead Rising 3 players will be able to take control Nick Ramos’s buddy Dick for co-op play. As the comic foil, players will be able to drop and out of games in, and interestingly enough, any missions you haven’t unlocked will become playable. If you complete them in co-op, they’ll be completed for your own single-player campaign.

The Business Post revealed that players will be somewhat tethered together in co-op play, but that they can be apart for a significant distance.

A shot of one of the Psychopaths, with producer Mike Jones revealing that each Psychopath represents a different sin. So there along with Greed (shown below), there will be Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride for a total of seven sins.

Nomura knows way better than us, but it wouldn't hurt to see some of these.

Let’s be honest: Tetsuya Nomura, director of Final Fantasy XV (formerly Final Fantasy Versus XIII) probably knows what we want before even we do. This is a guy that managed to take a concept like “Final Fantasy meets Disney” and infuse it with enough action, drama and dream team combinations than we ever could of hoped for with Kingdom Hearts 2. Then he breathed fresh life into the Final Fantasy VII universe with Crisis Core, arguably one of the best games in the series. So it’s a given that’s a smart guy who can deliver some great experiences.

Nonetheless, we have our needs and desires. And with all the time it’s taken to develop Final Fantasy XV, it would be great if at least a few of the following actually made it into the game. Here’s our top 10 most wanted features for Final Fantasy XV.

10. 1080p, 60 Frames Per Second

We’ve seen the game and it runs at what appears to be 30 frames per second. Would it be too much to ask for 60 frames per second at this stage? Most likely, but anything less than 1080p just feels wrong. This is a game that skipped the PlayStation 3 generation and went straight to the PS4 and Xbox One. With all the detail and amazing effects on display, it would be wonderful to have both 1080p resolution and a 60 FPS frame rate. But we’re willing to settle for just the former.

9. Mechs

Of all the things we’ve seen in Final Fantasy with giant floating cities, motorcycles, Sister Rays, W.E.A.P.O.N.s, airships and whatnot, well, why not? Even a mix of monster and technology would be cool, but give us something to pilot and punch friggin’ Leviathan in the face with. Again, it seems like more of a wish than expectation but it’s high time.

8. Co-op play

This is a toss-up. On one hand, we’re not sure how well it would work to take control of one of Noctis’s allies during the main game. On the other hand, we’re not sure Square Enix would invest the resources into creating a completely separate co-op campaign. File this under “Wouldn’t it be cool if…” rather than an actual expectation, but there’s still plenty of time to surprise us, Square.

7. A Release

We’ve been burned before, not including the time that gameplay footage leaked. All those rumours of cancellation and revamping only made us more skeptical that we’d ever see the game again. Now that more information is coming out, hopefully a solid release date (or year) will materialize as well.

6. Open World Gameplay (Sort of)

Give us towns to shop in, dungeons to explore, tombs to find secrets in or bases to defend with Horde Mode-like objectives. We don’t need to go everywhere – we just want places to explore when we’re not trying to save the world. Tie them in to the aspect of multiple endings and you’re on to something. With the number of different elements in the Final Fantasy universe such as Summons, magic and perhaps even vehicles this time around, this is a no-brainer.

5. Multiple Endings

We get it, we get it: We’re fighting to save the world. That’s the case in every Final Fantasy. Oddly enough, that’s not the case here…or not exactly. It will probably feature objectives such as rescuing Noctis’s father or even Stella, but we need a bit more traction than that.

4. Branching paths

Don’t just give us multiple directions to take the story in. Is all that chaotic fighting just for show or can you actually take different paths to your objective? We’re not asking for open world gameplay (yet), but levels that allow us multiple avenues to reach our objective. Kingdom Hearts 2 only slightly had that – and since this is a far more mature title with less confined environments to work in, then why not?

3. Summons

No, we don’t want two aqua-like beings that can change into different vehicles for the characters to ride (we’re looking at you, Final Fantasy XIII). Fighting summons in order to earn their trust? We can get behind that. A simplified Junction system for increasing your attributes with the more Summons you accrue? As long as it’s not as confusing as Final Fantasy VIII, then sure. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to have the Summon as a party member that takes the place of your other allies and which you have limited control over a la Final Fantasy XII either.

2. Limit Breaks/Drive Gauge Attacks

In Kingdom Hearts, you can team up with party members to outright batter groups of enemies with attacks. Final Fantasy’s Limit Breaks are different, but follow the same philosophy of striking with an overwhelming blow in an instant. Noctis’s warping and multi-weapon attacks may already come across as overblown, and we see team members help in a support role of sorts. But something to rely on in the heat of combat would be nice.

1. Materia combination

Similar to Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PSP – which Nomura also worked on – it would be interesting if Materia and the combination thereof made a return. At least something that would allow us to harness dark energies and then combine them together into unexpected, highly rare results. While it’s more likely we’ll see something akin to the Job system, or at least the ability to change classes in between combat like Kingdom Hearts, one hopes for a combination system of some sort.

Blizzard wants to encourage a more "social environment" for players.

Despite the console versions of Diablo 3 being playable offline, Blizzard Entertainment won’t be having the same for PC players. Game director Joshua Mosqueira spoke to Eurogamer about the same and stated that, “Something Kevin [Martens, lead content designer] says all the time is: Diablo plays best when you’re playing with other people. Because not a lot of people connect their consoles to the internet, that’s where the whole idea of having to get four people on the same couch playing together [comes in]. That’s how we get that social aspect.

“But on PC, we really want players to feel they’re part of the bigger Blizzard and Diablo community. It’s a choice of platform and opportunity for our players to benefit from. There’s a more secure item trading environment, but also a more social environment. We have a lot of plans to make online matter. For us it’s about that connected experience.”

He also stated that Diablo 3 was “a co-op game from day one. We didn’t add co-op in. It’s not a value added feature. It is the ideal. It’s not something we want to force upon people, but the idea it’s always available – the whole drop-in, drop-out thing – has been of value since the very beginning of the project. We tried to make the game with that in mind.

“As we add new things, as we look to the future, we’re still trying to enrich that. We still are doing a lot to make online matter. Improved matchmaking, new social systems and extra rewards for playing together.”

Are you feeling the benefits of the same? Let us know below.
