Capcom satisfied with DmC and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, but not with Resident Evil 6

Capcom has revealed their financial results for the fiscal year which ended on March 31st 2013. The results seem to meet the publishers expectations with the exception of Resident Evil 6.

Overall net sales happen to reach 94.1 billion yen (£613m), which ups the percentage by 14.6 compared to last year. Meanwhile, the net profit was dropped by 55.8% year-on-year to three billion yen (£19.6m).

Resident Evil 6 managed to sell 4.9 units, which didn’t satisfy the publisher’s original sales forecast which was 7 million units. Despite the failed Resident Evil 6 sales, Dragon’s Dogma surpassed Capcom’s expectations with sales of 1.3 million; also the long-awaited reboot Devil May Cry sold a “solid” 1.1 million copies, the game has “stable popularity in overseas markets”.

The new fiscal year has begun, Capcom hopes to have net sales of 97 billion yen (£632) along with a net profit of 6.8 billion yen (£44.3m). Capcom recently stated that they decided to kill of several internal projects after the lower-than-expected sales that games like Resident evil 6 received in order to increase internal development. They said, “In order to lower development costs and shorten time frame for development, Capcom will restructure its development organisations, which are the core parts of the company’s business, increasing ratio of in-house developments by focusing on the overhaul of overseas development companies.”

What do you think Capcom will be creating next? Also, check out our Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen review and check back on GamingBolt for future title announcements from Capcom.

Famitsu’s review scores for the week have been revealed, and the most interesting score here is a score of 34/40- broken down to two scores of 8/10 and two scores of 9/10- for the upcoming Ninja Theory developed hack and slash title by Capcom, DmC: Devil May Cry, which is a reboot of the series.

Other games that also received scores are LittleBigPlanet Karting (also 34/40), Digimon Adventure and others.

Here is the list of all the review scores for this week:

DmC Devil May Cry (PS3/360) – 8/9/8/9
LittleBigPlanet Karting (PS3) – 8/8/9/9
Otometeki Koi Kakumei Love Revo!! 100kg Karahajimaru-Koimonogatari (PSP) – 8/8/8/7
Dream C Club Zero: Special Edipyon (PS3) – 7/8/7/8
Digimon Adventure (PSP) – 8/7/7/7
Koukon no Sinsemilla Portable (PSP) – 7/6/4/6

DmC seems to be getting good scores from the few publications that have reviewed it so far, so it might go against popular expectations and actually turn out to be good.

Stay tuned for more info.

Sounds like a pretty good deal.

There are some pretty sweet deals up on Steam if you’re thinking of pre-purchasing DmC: Devil May Cry right now.

If you purchase the game right now, you can get it for $49.99, and also get the costume pack downloadable content for free. However, that’s not even the real deal.

You can spend a few extra bucks and get the game for $59.99 over here. Why’s this deal so good? Because you get the awesome Devil May Cry 3 and the only decent Devil May Cry 4 for free along with DmC itself (well, of course). And you get the Special Edition for DMC3, no less, which means you also get to play the Virgil campaign.

Which means you’re practically saving upto $30 compared to how much you would have to spend if you bought these games individually.

But make sure your PC can run the game before you purchase it. Get the system requirements here.

[Destructoid]

Capcom says they knew the risks that they took with the DMC reboot.

Capcom says they knew the risks they took when they decided to go in a very different direction with the Devil May Cry reboot, which is currently under development.

“There is always going to be a core fanbase that will question our intentions,” Capcom’s European marketing boss Michael Pattison said while speaking with MCV. “Whenever you try and change an established franchise, you are always going to upset a few people that are going to be a little bit concerned about what you’re doing with the brand. That’s understandable. We feel there is more confidence amongst people that have gone hands-on.”

Well, it’s a good thing they were prepared, then, because DmC got a lot of stick for the changes it seems like it’s going to make to the franchise’s formula. Dante’s “emo” look isn’t especially popular among the fans, for one.

Do you agree with the criticism DmC gets? Tell us in your comments below.

Capcom’s upcoming Ninja Theory developed reboot to the Devil May Cry series, DmC: Devil May Cry is getting a demo- FINALLY- for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 next week.

The demo releases on November 20th in North America for the Xbox 360 and PS3 simultaneously, while it launches in Europe on November 20th for the Xbox 360 and November 21st for the PS3.

The demo for DmC will include to missions, which are being described by Capcom as “action-packed” (well, duh, it’s an action game, but, you know, hype), and even a boss fight for you to enjoy.

Several of the game’s difficulty modes will be included in the game, including a Son of Sparda mode which you can only unlock after you’ve finished the demo. The demo also gives you access to “a variety of the game’s weapon upgrades and maybe a couple secrets along the way.”

Sounds like this is the E3 demo that many critics tried. So, good news then?

Capcom talks about how DmC looks like a 60 FPS game.

People have been a little cagey when it comes to next year’s reboot, DmC, and one of the reasons for that is that unlike the original Devil May Cry games, DmC will run on 30 FPS, which halves the frames per second ratio from old titles in the series. Except for the PC version, which will still play on 60 FPS.

However, Capcom wants to assure people that even though DmC runs on 30 FPS on the Unreal Engine, they have tweaked it and found ways to make it look like it’s a 60 frames-per-second game. Their work on Dragon’s Dogma this year, which also ran on UE3.

“During the course of the development of Dragon’s Dogma we did a lot of experimentation and happened upon some techniques for working with Unreal Engine, some fairly elaborate techniques, that allow for a controller responsiveness that gives the player the feel of 60 frames per second,” Director of DmC at Ninja Theory, Hideaki Itsuno told Eurogamer.

“60 frames per second is a speed the brain and the eye can catch up with and understand,” he continued. “But at 30 frames per second there’s a technique where you take advantage of the brain’s ability to fill in the blanks.

“So even though you have it running at 30 frames per second, you create the motions and the poses in such a way that the brain will naturally fill in what would have been the extra frames.

“Also, on the players’ side, we made some adjustments to the button response and when it’s reflected on screen.”

He said that 60 FPS has a tiring effect on gamers for a long term, and that 30 FPS is better in many ways.

What do you say? Do you think DmC should be 60FPS? Tell us in your comments.

Full blown reboots seem to be the order of the day for many franchises as of late, but the announcement of DmC back in 2010 caused a fair bit of controversy. Devil May Cry fans were displeased with some of the drastic changes made to the series, with the new Dante’s appearance in particular drawing criticism. It’s been a while since then, and with every new appearance of DmC it manages to endear itself to us little by little. Admittedly it’s doing this by merely bringing back features we loved in the previous Devil May Cry games, but there’s plenty of new and innovative additions and alterations to get excited about as well. Here’s six of the upcoming changes that could really breath new life into the series.

A New Dante

Talk smack about him all you want on forums, as we all know you wouldn’t say it to his face.

Yeah, I know. Dante’s new emo styling isn’t exactly what we’d expect from the son of Sparda. Take into account though, that this is a complete reboot of the series; a parallel universe, if you will. If you think of it like that, this isn’t really the same Dante changed for the worse, but a different character with the same name. The style is a subjective matter indeed, but some of Dante’s new lore elements should make for interesting gameplay scenarios. Though still the son of Sparda, Dante is supposedly now half angel and half demon, two modes that he can switch to in the heat of combat to unlock new abilities. Variety is indeed the spice of life.

A Different Developer

Their track record is pretty good so far, so give Ninja Theory a break on this one.

Moving away from the Capcom lead development of the original Devil May Cry games, DmC will be made by Ninja Theory. Having previously worked on the awesome Heavenly Sword and Enslaved, Ninja Theory are taking the reigns on DmC. Whilst it’s likely plenty of you conservative types are resisting the change, this could well be a good move for the series. Fresh development talent always leads to an innovative reboot, and we all know that Ninja Theory are a good developer. The glass should definitely be viewed as half full in this regard.

An Alternate Universe

Though it may share certain elements of lore with the Devil May Cry universe we know and love, the world of DmC seem very different indeed. Set in the city of Limbo, a dystopian state where the people are controlled by demons, Dante fights against the all seeing eye of the establishment. He winds up fighting alongside an equally rebellious order lead by Vergil, his long lost brother. Familiar yet different, wouldn’t you say?

After 343 Industries, Bethesda and id Software, it’s now the turn of Capcom to announce developer sessions for the upcoming Eurogamer Expo, to take place September 27th-30th.

Eurogamer operations director Tom Bramwell stated, “DmC: Devil May Cry and Remember Me aren’t due out until 2013, but Eurogamer Expo attendees can hear from the development team months in advance. They are two of the most exciting games announced for the next calendar year and we’re thrilled to have them.”

Ninja Theory design chief Tameem Antoniades and Capcom’s Alex Jones will oversee the session as they walk players through the new features via live demo. This will take place on September 30th but DmC will be playable by attendees throughout the event.

On the other hand, Remember Me will be presented live by DONTNOD creative director Jean Max-Morris and Capcom senior producer Matt Hart on September 29th. Having been announced only a few weeks ago at GamesCom, it’s doubtful that it will be playable on the event floor.

For all the fans clamouring about it, Capcom has finally show-cased their reboot of Vergil for the upcoming DmC at GamesCom 2012.

As the story goes, while Dante was adopted into an orphanage, Vergil made it into a rich, educated and well to do home. Described as “A highly intelligent and gifted individual, he wrote a security encryption program that eventually made him a multi-millionaire before he even finished school”, he leads the anti-demon Order, that researches the monsters to eventually defeat them.

The verdict? Definitely not the bad-ass we expected, but at least he has his katana.

Unlike previous Devil May Cry games, DmC is being developed by Ninja Theory, responsible for the Playstation 3 flagship title Heavenly Sword, averaging 79% on Metacritic.

DmC will follow a much younger Dante, before he went all hipster with his ivory hair, in his early days of demon slaying. It will also take place in ‘Limbo’, a twisted version of reality which is home to all of the demons. Actions and events that occur within Limbo also affect those in the real world, an interesting twist on the Devil May Cry environments of yesteryear.

Capcom have confirmed they will be showcasing DmC at E3, so we can expect to see a whole host of new details and gameplay.
