Kyle Crane returns as the protagonist, but what should newcomers know about him? Techland's latest trailer has all the answers.

Going from a new expansion for Dying Light 2 Stay Human to a standalone game is never easy, but Dying Light: The Beast looks to have shaped up well. It’s out tomorrow for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, a day earlier than previously announced, so to help get new players up to speed, Techland has released a “Story So Far” video. Spoilers follow, so beware.

It essentially chronicles the tale of Kyle Crane in Dying Light and The Following expansion. As a mercenary venturing into Harran for the GRE, he learns the truth about the titular virus, evading the undead and working with residents of the Tower to fulfill his mission. After losing many friends, he ventures outside of the city to investigate rumors of a cure with the cult-like Children of the Sun.

Of course, things don’t pan out as expected, and one of two endings can occur. However, the video reveals that it was the GRE who captured him, leading to his imprisonment at the hands of the Baron.

Dying Light: The Beast picks up the plot several years later, with Kyle escaping and seeking revenge. For all the latest details, check out our feature.

This will give players access to Dying Light: The Following, as well as four DLC packs that will add new content, skins, weapons, and more.

Techland’s support for the original Dying Light has been nothing short of spectacular, with the game continuing to receive patches and updates big and small on a consistent basis even years on from its launch. Now, however, the Polish developer is ready to shift its full attention to Dying Light 2 Stay Human– but before that, they’re signing things off for the original game with a bang.

Dying Light’s final patch has now gone live, adding a High Performance mode on Xbox Series S, bringing new content to Hellraid, and releasing the Dieselpunk DLC for the base game. Along with that final hurrah, however, Techland has also announced that anyone who owns the standard edition of Dying Light is automatically going to get upgraded to its Enhanced Edition for free.

That means you’re getting a meaty chunk of new content for free. Dying Light: Enhanced Edition includes a sizeable expansion in Dying Light: The Following, as well as four DLC packs that bring new content, skins, weapons, and a new game mode. Namely, those four DLC packs are Bozak Horde, Cuisine and Cargo, Ultimate Survivor Bundle, and Crash Test Skin Bundle.

To upgrade your copy of the game to the Enhanced Edition, all you need to do is boot up the game, choose the “DLC Packs” option from the main menu, and claim all the aforementioned content for no additional charge.

Dying Light is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and as a cloud-exclusive title on the Nintendo Switch.

How does Techland's latest adventure come to a close? What could fans expect in the future? Take a look at some possibilities here.

Techland’s Dying Light 2 Stay Human is out now and garnering a fair bit of attention, with a peak concurrent player count of 274,983 on Steam. It’s not too surprising, all things considered – despite releasing in 2015, the first Dying Light had more than 17 million players by the end of 2019. The developer’s long-term support contributed to the same so the appeal of a sequel providing even more Dying Light content for hardcore players – that too with at least five years of support – is hard to resist.

While Techland has already outlined some of the updates coming in the next few months, Dying Light 2’s story does open up some interesting avenues for the game’s future. Spoilers abound so if you haven’t finished the game, turn back now.

By now, you know the set-up – protagonist Aiden Caldwell comes to Villedor aka The City in order to search for his sister Mia. When both were children, they were subject to experiments by the mysterious Dr. Waltz. At the beginning, Aiden obtains a GRE electronic key from an informant and is warned that Villedor will be in trouble if Waltz gets his hands on it.

Being infected also doesn’t help Aiden’s cause as he ventures into The City for more answers. From there, he interacts with a number of different characters including Hakon, a former Nightrunner; Lawan, who he must give the GRE key to; and of course, Waltz who wants the GRE key for his own purpose. Then there are the different factions like the Renegades, Peacekeepers and Survivors.

Without going over every single detail, Aiden eventually meets a GRE doctor named Veronika Ryan and while accessing the GRE database to learn more about Mia, accidentally triggers missile strikes that will decimate Villedor. Waltz gets the key and heads to X13, a lab that was originally meant to be a shelter for the GRE (and also the place where Aiden was experimented on as a child).

As Aiden and Lawan confront Waltz, it’s revealed that Mia isn’t Aiden’s sister after all but actually Waltz’s daughter. The experiments were a means to find a cure for her and despite the countdown to the missile strikes, Waltz refuses to stop it (since Mia’s cure could be compromised in the process). Cue a final showdown between Aiden and Waltz ending in the latter’s defeat.

Lawan then comes up with a plan to destroy the missiles before they can even launch using explosives. X13 will thus be destroyed. Aiden must make a choice though: save Lawan (while Hakon saves Mia), evacuating X13 and letting the missiles hit Villedor, resulting in most of the population being killed. Or save Mia (while Hakon saves Lawan), thus resulting in X13 being destroyed and The City being saved though Mia dies shortly after due to being weakened. The faction most favored by Aiden then controls Villedor.

Regardless of your decision, however, Aiden will decide to leave The City and resume his journey while still being infected. Lawan can come with if you made the right decisions but it’s fairly open-ended as to where the story goes next. Of course, there are still plenty of lingering questions. What happened to the cure for Mia? Was it lost in the destruction of X13? Could there potentially be any remaining data or research that’s stored outside of the city? How does life in Villedor change going forward?

While a sequel may release several years down the line, it’s highly unlikely to continue Dying Light 2’s story. After all, even this title isn’t a direct continuation of its predecessor’s story – set 20 years later, it’s possible to enjoy it even with basic knowledge of the setting and circumstances. Dying Light 2 will serve as a new platform for Techland to continually update and monetize for the coming years. That’s how it worked for Dying Light 1 and there’s no real reason it would deviate from this approach, especially after Techland promised such extensive post-launch support.

This doesn’t mean that Aiden and his story will be abandoned completely though. After all, even Dying Light had The Following which saw Crane venturing out of his comfort zone into the wilderness to investigate a potential cure. With Dying Light 2 having not one but two story DLC, there’s the possibility of the same thing occurring here.

For instance, Aiden could travel to a brand new location (albeit, one that’s smaller than Villedor) and meet a whole new community. Maybe he’ll encounter another survivor of the experiment who’s grown up and now opposes him for whatever reason. He may learn more about Waltz’s potential cure for Mia and try to obtain it. It’s even possible that Aiden could turn and end up like Crane, though this doesn’t seem 100 percent likely since The Following already went down that route.

Perhaps Aiden will turn into something else entirely and thus provide brand new gameplay avenues. Regardless, due to the experiments – and as seen when he killed Dr. Ryan in the base game – he will fully turn at some point. Who knows? Maybe the “Stay Human” part is more of a teaser for things to come than a simple tagline for the base game.

Another possible avenue that could be explored in the second story DLC is to have Lawan as a playable character. We could explore more of her story in flashbacks and maybe see the history of the Nightrunners before their downfall. Or maybe we’ll follow Lawan after Aiden’s departure as she continues to survive in present-day Villedor. Perhaps it comes under some new threat and she’s forced to unite the factions to fight back.

It would allow for repurposing Villedor while ensuring Rosario Dawson’s character isn’t just a one-off appearance. Given that additional voice lines would need to be recorded, it doesn’t sound like the most practical option but time will ultimately tell but it’s not impossible.

The other option is that Aiden’s story doesn’t immediately end after the next two story DLC. Instead, Techland could look to release another major expansion like The Following. Perhaps this is where Aiden gets his final send-off (while the previous story DLC are just new adventures and side stories). A happy ending does seem pretty impossible at this point but Techland has to offer something, anything, that could lead to a continuation. The world is already at rock bottom after all – it really is nowhere but up from here. Once again though, the chances of Aiden’s story continuing into the future seems unlikely.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is a curious game. Much of its plot and characters are fairly self-contained – you’ll get the initial references to Crane, the GRE and the original virus while identifying a familiar face or two. But for all intents and purposes, it’s a standalone story that builds off of the original’s mythos rather than directly continuing its plot. It’s easy to see why Techland took this approach since it can weave in any past threads (like it did with Spike’s story for Dying Light 1) and expand the universe further while also adding new modes, Infected, locations and much more.

Whether one is ready for the five year journey or not, the future of Dying Light 2 – and Aiden’s ultimate fate – is still worth keeping an eye on.

Ahead of Dying Light 2's release, Techland seems poised to re-release the base game with all of its story DLC and skin bundles in one package.

Techland has been slowly revealing more information on Dying Light 2, particularly the choices and enemy types that players will encounter along with the presence of more open world events. While the wait continues for its release, the studio is seemingly going back and re-releasing the base game. A listing for Dying Light: Platinum Edition was spotted on the Microsoft Store (which has since been removed) with a release date of May 27th.

Whether it will be coming to Xbox Series X/S (and by extension, PS5) remains to be seen. But the bundle does include all of the previously released content along with the base game. There’s The Following expansion, Bozak Horde, and Hellraid to experience along with a whopping 17 skin bundles, additional weapons and much more.

If you’ve ever held off on playing Dying Light or wanted to have all of its content in one neat package, then the Platinum Edition is worth keeping an eye on. Techland hasn’t officially confirmed the bundle so it may arrive later than the listing indicates. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

16 titles will retail for $19.99 on PS4 from November 2nd onwards.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is garnering positive reviews. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is revitalizing interest in the franchise. Even Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is pretty good. Heck, even among the exclusives for PlayStation 4, Spider-Man has been raking it in, and has a new DLC pack, The Heist, available now.

However, if you’re interested in playing some of the older titles on PS4 at a discount, then there’s good news- Sony will be adding 16 games to the PlayStation Hits line-up on November 2nd. That means older titles which have been successful enough will retail for $19.99, just in time for the Holiday season. The full list of games for November includes:

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

Until Dawn

Batman: Arkham Knight

Need for Speed Rivals

UFC 2

Need for Speed

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition

Dying Light: The Following

Lego Marvel Super Heroes

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2

Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair

Mortal Kombat X

Injustice

Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends

Battlefield Hardline

Dragon Age: Inquisition

So if you’re interested in the PlayStation Hits version of the above, look for their special red packaging. Other titles that have been added to the line-up (for the United States) include Bloodborne, DriveClub, LittleBigPlanet 3, The Last of Us: Remastered, Uncharted 4 and much more. At $20, picking up titles like Mortal Kombat X, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and Dragon Age Inquisition is a steal, if we’ve ever seen one.

One of them is an open world fantasy RPG-lite.

After the successful launch of last year’s Dying Light, and its follow up earlier this year, Dying Light: The Following, developers Techland are now hard at work on two brand new games, including what sounds like a new, open world fantasy RPG- this new game will also feature single player and co-op elements, much like every other game that Techland have made so far.

We don’t know much about the other game (although it may well be the sequel to Dying Light), but Techland have said that the total budget for both games comes down to roughly $77 million USD, which would basically make them AAA games.

Of course, Dying Light and The Following were both great fun, and far better than the flawed Dead Island, so there is substantial hope that the new games will continue the upward trajectory that the studio has been exhibiting. As and when we learn more about these games, we will keep you posted, so stay tuned.

Dying Light players got real busy with the killing recently.

The first community event for Techland’s Dying Light: The Following has quite the turn-out. It challenged players to run over 5 million zombies using their dune buggies in the expansion and to achieve the same within 48 hours. To say that players achieved that is putting it lightly.

According to the developer, some 18.2 million zombies were roadkill during the event. Participating players who helped complete the challenge were rewarded with a gold paint job for their buggies along with a special weapon docket. A rare buggy skin has also been doled out as a reward to the number of undead murdered.

PS4 players contributed the most to kills with 47.2 percent players getting involved. 28 percent of kills belonged to Xbox One players while PC players contributed 24.8 percent to kills. The average number of kills per user was some 194 kills.

What are your thoughts on the event and the massacre that followed? Let us know in the comments.

This is perhaps the unlikeliest collaboration of all time- but it seems as though Dying Light and Rocket League will be crossing over into each other. And that doesn’t just mean Rocket League getting some Dying Light themed cars or accessories, because that sort of thing has, of course, happened before- but even Dying Light is getting some Rocket League themed stuff, such as Rocket League-themed dune buggy skins.

If you want these skins, click here and use the code “LIGHTMYROCKET” to unlock it.

“We’re huge fans of Rocket League and because both games offer great driving fun, we thought why not just partner up and give fans of both games some unique stuff?” said Techland’s producer Tyman Smektala.

Check out the trailer that debuts Rocket League themed stuff in Dying Light for yourself below. Meanwhile, also brace yourself for some Dying Light themed stuff coming over to Rocket League eventually.

Techland CEO believes in "active collaboration" between design team and players.

Techland’s Dying Light isn’t going to stop receiving support now that the Enhanced Edition and full-fledged expansion The Following are available. The studio recently confirmed its commitment to deliver more Dying Light content till the end of the year. In fact, it’s already working on new, unrevealed content that will be receiving more information in the coming months.

Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka also said that the studio is interested in hearing players’ ideas. “We want to hear about all your stories, ideas and problems you could have. As the Dying Light franchise goes forward, let us also know where you want to see it headed.

“We strongly believe in active collaboration between our design team and you, players who every day fight for survival in the world of Dying Light.”

Dying Light: The Following released in early February for Xbox One, PS4 and PC alongside the Enhanced Edition. You can check out our official review for the expansion here.

A complete guide for Dying Light: The Following.

Techland and Warner Bros. had a surprise hit on their hand last year with their first person parkour platforming zombie (whew, what a mouthful) game, Dying Light. Dying Light has since continued to have an active community, but Techland decided to give it a little nudge with the launch of Dying Light: The Following, a brand new, full sized expansion pack for the game (which is also being packaged with the base game as Dying Light: The Following Enhanced Edition).

As with the original Dying Light, The Following has a lot to see and do. Strap yourself in, and we’ll get to it.

BUGGY PAINT JOBS

The pride of Dying Light: The Following, the core reason for its existence, the one thing that makes it as awesome as it is, is the buggy. This buggy is your way of getting around town, it’s your way of taking down an amazing number of zombies in extremely spectacular ways, and it is also a hell of a sweet ride to have. And hell, once you have it, you want it to look like it’s your style, right? Right.

Cultist: Head south from Jasir’s farmhouse until you come across the water.

Cherry Bomb: Head southeast from Jasir’s farmhouse, and continue down the path. Eventually, you will come across an abandoned train, and some crates next to it. You will find the paint job behind it.

Rally Prism: Head south of Jasir’s farmhouse, continue along the hillside, and head inside the Hunting Tower. You can’t miss it, it’s in the open.

Zebra: Go to the gas station that is southeast to Jasir’s farmhouse. You can get this paint job inside there.

Black Widow: There is a large statue in the cemetery on the south-eastern edge of the countryside. Check behind this statue.

Buggy Gold Tier Upgrades:

You can find all gold tier buggy upgrades and their locations using the video below:

BUGGY BOBBLEHEADS

Yep, not only can you paint your buggy however you like, you can have bobbleheads in it too! This game is really too generous with just how much it lets us deck out the vehicle.

Jasir: As with, like, everything else in the game, Jasir seems to be central to getting the first bobblehead too. Accept Buggy Grail from Bilal. After this, head east from Jasir’s farm, and keep going until you find a trailer. Go inside to pick up a bobblehead.

Bilal: Once Bilal unlocks custom paint jobs for you, check the shelves directly behind him. There’s a bobblehead there.

BUGGY REFUELLING

Your buggy would be a remarkably useless weapon if it couldn’t get about, or power its weapons. And it can’t of any of that unless it’s topped up. And you can’t keep it topped up unless you know where to go. Thankfully, we do, and we’re telling you. All you need to do is salvage fuel from numerous abandoned vehicles scattered around the in-game world. Basically, just walk up to them and press the Search button. That’s it, you’ll get fuel you can use to power your buggy.

Really, I’m not quite sure why this is its own section in this guide.

BLUEPRINTS

Look, something in this guide that doesn’t have to do with that buggy!

Blueprints are needed to craft new items needed to survive the apocalypse. Since Dying Light is open world, these blueprints are scattered all around the world, and you need to hunt them down and recover them before you can craft these items.

Luckily, we’re here to help.

Paper Plane Weapon – Origami 101

Bow & Crossbow Weapon Locations

Ice Cream
1x Sickle, 1x Cleaver, 1x Metal Parts, 1x Duct Tape, 3x Fluorescent Shrooms
We saved the best for last (also, because this one is a bit out of the way compared to the others, as far as geographical organization goes). Head south from Bilal’s workshop and continue along the path until you come across a Chinese restaurant. The blueprint is inside there.

Nailer
1x Baseball, 2x Blade, 1x Nails, 1x String, 4x Herb
Get inside that same barn from the window on the upper floor. Check inside the drawer in the desk to find the blueprint.

Super Molotov
1x Fuel, 1x String
On the east side of the lake is a water processing facility. Head inside, open the cabinet, collect the blueprint.

Flame Stabber
1x Short Knife, 1x Long Knife, 1x Metal Parts, 1x Duct Tape, 2x Household Supplies, 1x Aerosol
Go to the watch tower near the eastern side of the lake to find the blueprint inside.

Roast Blast
1x Two-Handed Hammer, 2x Aerosol,1x Two-Handed Axe, 1x Pickaxe, 1x Metal Parts, 1x String, 1x Household Supplies
This is the easiest blueprint to find- it’s located in Jasir’s farmhouse, right where you find the buggy.

Phlebotomizer
1x Scythe, 1x Khopesh, 2x Metal Parts, 1x Alcohol, 1x Duct Tape, 2x Blade, 1x Handsaw, 1x Two-Handed Sword, 1x Short Sword, 1x Blade, 1x Machete, 1x Cleaver
This is another easy one to find- it’s inside Jasir’s desk in his farmhouse.

Bad Plug
1x Short Knife, 1x Long Knife, 1x Blade, 1x Metal Parts, 1x Plastic, 1x Chemicals, 1x Power Cable
Keep going north from Jasir’s farmhouse, until you come across an abandoned building. The blueprint is on a shelf inside.

Stiff Stick
1x Baseball, 1x Crowbar, 1x Metal Parts, 1x String, 3x Fluorescent Shrooms
Travel northwest from Jasir’s farmhouse, until you come across the barn near the northern side of the lake. The blueprint is, yet again, on a shelf.

TROPHIES/ACHIEVEMENTS

Afraid To Get Wet?
Dive into the Countryside.

And You Liked Him, Didn’t You?
Meet your old friend again.

I Was Waiting For You For So Long
Become a Faceless.

Sweaty Palms?
Kill a Demolisher with a car.

It Wasn’t That Hard, Was It?
Win Bilal’s race.

What If You Picked The Other One?
