Okay, the God of War 4 rumours have been piling on top of another for a long time now- again, and again, and again, and again– and it’s all but confirmed. No one now is dumb enough to think that it doesn’t exist. Sony may as well just announce it now, because another report has surfaces that strengthens the rumours.

South African retailer BT Games (via Joystiq) has listed God of War IV as available for pre-orders, and according to the listing, the game ships out in February 2013.

“We haven’t announced any future God of War titles,” a Sony representative told GameSpot when asked for clarification. Well, he didn’t exactly deny the reports.

A sequel is all but inevitable. Not only because the franchise is super successful, both, critically and commercially, but also because all these rumours and reports over the past few months have more or less confirmed its existence.

Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated.

Evidence has been piling up, pointing towards the possibility that God of War 4 is, indeed in development. I mean, once you see rumours, after rumours, after rumours, after rumours of a game, it’s got to be true. And creator of the original God of War, David Jaffe, has commented on what he wants to see in the next GoW game.

He says he wants to see multiple mythologies in the game, not just Greek, with more character depth for Kratos and a structure similar to the Zelda games (possibly meaning he wants the games to be a bit open ended or more puzzle based).

When asked which direction he wants God of War 4 to go in, he replied: “Zelda formula, multiple mythologies, more nuance to Kratos.”

That sounds nice.

Fire away with your feedback in the comments section below.

Sony Santa Monica, developers of the three main installments of the God of War franchise and co-developers of the two handheld spin-offs, is currently working on a new God of War game, and is hiring developers to work on it, according to a recent job listing.

The studio is looking for a Senior Staff Concept Artist to work on a project called simply “God of War.” This may be a working title, but then again, it might be a reboot as well, something that many fans have been asking for for some time now.

Job duties of the new dev will include “Conceptual Development/ Illustration” and will start work on the project immediately after being hired. The position also requires “previous or next-gen video game platform experience (e.g. PS2, PS3, X-box, X-box 360 etc.)”, which indicates that this new God of War game will either be on the PS3, or a next generation PlayStation, apart from Vita.

God of War is one of the most prestigious franchises we have seen in the last few years, and has become one of Sony’s most important franchises, along with the likes of Uncharted and Killzone. And for good reason- God of War has been a very consistent franchise, with each of the five games never ever dipping in quality, and each providing players with a bloody, gruesome experience that they do not soon forget.

With God of War III, though, while the main trilogy may have ended, the series is not yet over. Even if Sony and Santa Monica had said so themselves, and promised that they will return to God of War sooner or later, GoWIII’s semi cliff-hanger ending would have been enough to set that fact in stone.

So that brings us to the question that will drive this article forward: what do we want to see in God of War 4? What has the God of War series not done right till now, that can be improved with future installments? Compiled below are ten things we want God of War 4 to do and incorporate. Enjoy the list, and as always, don’t forget to give us your feedback via your comments below!

Weapon variety

About the only useful weapon in the entire series.

The Blades of Chaos have now become a very iconic weapon, with five of the games have used the chained yo-yo like blades as Kratos’ primary weapon. But as much as we simply love to wreak havoc and cause destruction with the legendary Blades of Chaos/Athena/Exile, we also want to see God of War 4 to have a larger arsenal of weapons, and one that is actually useful. True, we do get several additional weapons and abilities in all God of War game, but you never really feel compelled to use them. The Blades themselves feel so powerful, you never feel the need to use another weapons. Now, I’d never want Santa Monica to remove the Blades from God of War, but it’d be really great if they introduced some weapons that felt as good to handle as the Blades.

No mindless story

While God of War II’s story is very good on the outside- perfect for a summer blockbuster game-, it falls apart under the slightest of scrutiny. Kratos travels back in time to stop Zeus from ever killing him, and succeeds, which means Kratos never died. And if he never died, he never went to the Sisters, which is not what the game says, because the story continues after he kills Zeus. It’s really nonsensical. Santa Monica should probably pay more attention to the story they are telling in God of War IV. Ghost of Sparta and God of War were perfect- follow their examples. A complex, character driven story that makes sense would be nice.

More balanced combat system

Combat in God of War relies heavily on one combo, that anyone who knows even squat about the franchise should be familiar with- Square, Square, Triangle. You can literally rampage through the entire game using just this combo in combat situation, which make up about 80 per cent of the game. When you’re not using this combo, you’re playing out context sensitive parts, finishing off enemies and bosses with QTEs. While God of War III did balance the combat a bit, with Ghost of Sparta improving on that further, with new abilities and combos that we actually felt like using (they were actually pretty fun), we would like to see a much more balances combat system in GoW4.

Okay, so, remember how leaks and rumours of a new God of War game or a new God of War MMO were in circulation? Turns out, they were true. We contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America and asked them if any of that was true. They told us they were unavailable to comment by responding to our mailing by sending the following e-mail:

Hi Rashid,

I am sorry, but we are currently unavailable to comment on any such rumours.

Please contact us if you need any other information.

Best,

Greg Mathews

This was two days ago. Yesterday, we contacted them again, telling them we wanted to know and that we would not announce it on our website until Sony confirmed it themselves, Sony sent us an e-mail confirming that they were, indeed, working on a fourth God of War game. They gave us some details, and were given permission to reveal some of them.

The game, titled God of War: Rival to Sparta, will be released on the PS3 in late 2013. Yes, the game actually has a sub title, being the first game in the main series to have a subtitle. The game will feature Kratos’ brother, as we all expected, and show how he dealt with all his misadventures during the timespan of the Kratos trilogy- yes, simultaneous timelines.

The game will also feature playable levels for Kratos, Zeus and maybe even a few Titan levels (these Titan levels are just an idea at the development team right now, nothing concrete). The game will also feature more introspection on Kratos and his past, since Sony feels they never “justified Kratos’ anger towards the enemies properly.”

A huge secret about Deimos, Kratos’ brother, will be revealed, something related to family matters.

We have been given a lot more details, but unfortunately, we cannot submit them right now. Please stay with us, we will have more information on this ASAP.

PS: That’s it, suckers, stop getting excited. It’s April Fools.

God of War fans must be going crazy, right now, just like I am. After the recent rumour that Santa Monica might be working on an online God of War game, a job resume by an animator whose name has been withheld for security reasons filed under Motion Logic Studios leaked God of War IV.

You can see in the second image that he is currently working on game cinematics for God of War 4, and is “Responsible for Character Animation in Maya.”

We can also see “God of War IV- Game Cinematic Test” from the first image.

Motion logic Studios have listed several works for “unannounced AAA” titles on their website. Logically, these work should be animations for God of War IV. Sony has said before that God of War was not done with GoWIII, that we will be seeing more God of War games, but this is the first (unofficial) confirmation we have got.

Stay tuned, we’ll have more info for you soon.

Santa Monica Studios, the developers of the awesome God of War series, have posted a job ad on Gamasutra, searching for a senior online programmer. The person’s responsibilities will be:

•	Designing and implementing systems and tools to support networking needs (such as in-game communication, client-server, match-making, leaderboards)
•	Help support existing systems
•	Writing clear, maintainable, portable, and highly functional code
•	Profiling and performance tuning of code and systems to remove bottlenecks
•	As needed work on tools and technology tasks to support specific project requirements
•	Testing and documenting of the code you write

God of War has always been a single player series, and while I don’t see what a multiplayer God of War game will be like, there are a lot of possibilities Santa Monica can consider. Is this a new God of War MMO? Or maybe a new God of War game with an online element? The God of War trilogy may have ended with God of War III, but the developers have confirmed that the series has not ended.

Or maybe this is just a new IP the devs are working on with online modes.

Tell us what you think this is in your comments below.

Check it out, it almost looks like a REAL teaser of the game.
