CD Projekt has revealed that it is in the process of looking into potentially licensing out its IP to smaller studios for mobile games.

CD Projekt—the company known for The Witcher games as well as Cyberpunk 2077—has said that it might be open to licensing its IP for mobile games. As caught by VGC, the company was asked during a Q&A session during its earnings conference for FY2023 whether it would be open to licensing its big IP—The Witcher and Cyberpunk—to third parties for mobile games.

Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski responded that the company was looking at the possibility of licensing the aforementioned IP to external studios. While there are no announcements being made, CD Projekt is looking into whether it would make sense for such a licensing deal to be a one-off deal or if there would be a longer-term partnership.

“The answer is pretty simple here,” said Nowakowski. “The answer is yes, we are considering such a move. In fact, we were pursuing, through conversations, opportunities like that. We have nothing to announce just yet, but when the time comes, we would.”

“As for a one-off or other business model related to any such potential partnership, we would not comment on the specifics here, to be honest, plus there is nothing in place that we’re talking about,” he continued. “But there’s no predesigned business model we’re looking at in this case, whether one-off or shared profits. That’s another story. But when the time comes we’ll definitely share information.”

It is worth noting that, while both The Witcher and Cyberpunk as video game franchises exist thanks to CD Projekt’s efforts, both of the franchises are themselves licensed works—The Witcher from a series of fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, and Cyberpunk from the tabletop RPG of the same name.

We’ve also seen a mobile game based on The Witcher 3‘s in-game card game, Gwent, which also got a single-player spinoff in Thronebreaker. Cyberpunk 2077, on the other hand, hasn’t seen any spin-offs developed for it so far.

CD Projekt RED has announced that it is sunsetting support for its card game Gwent: The Witcher Card Game in 2024. The game will still get more content throughout 2023.

CD Projekt RED has announced that its card game, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, is reaching the end of its life in 2024. While the company still has content planned for the game, according to IGN, the studio is moving most of its developers to other projects.

In the mean time, CD Projekt RED has revealed its plans for content coming to Gwent: The Witcher Card Game throughout 2023, which will include three expansions set for April, July, and September, which will bring 72 new cards to the game.

The studio has also stated that, despite moving developers off the game, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will still see additional content released in the future. The game will feature a season-based progression system, and a new feature that will allow for players to vote for balance changes to the game.

The last major release for Gwent, titled Gwent: Rogue Mage, was unveiled earlier this year for PC, Android and iOS. Gwent: Rogue Mage features more PvE experiences, with its story following Alzur, a mage looking to create the first Witcher.

The digital card game finally comes to android users.

I think it’s fair to say that The Witcher franchise is at its absolute peak of popularity. Not only is there a hit Netflix show that’s set the pop culture world on fire, the popular game series is confirmed to be continuing on with a new entry. One of the spin-offs from this series is the digital card game, GWENT, which originated from The Witcher 3. A lot of people have got to try the game, but now it’s open to even more as the Android version is finally here.

The game has been available on PC, iOS and consoles for quite some time (though console support has been cut off as of writing this). Now, those who are on Android can join in as today marks the official launch of the Android app. To celebrate, you will get a free Ultimate Premium Keg upon logging in up until the end of the month on the 31st.

GWENT is available now on PC, iOS and, of today, Android devices.

The Witcher series is on the highest mountain peak it’s ever been on thanks to the Netflix adaptation of the fantasy series. Specifically, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has had an amazing surge since that show began (and has seen quite a bit of success thanks to the unlikely Switch port as well). But it’s not the only bit of Witcher entertainment out there, as the digital card spin-off game GWENT is still going strong. Those on PC and iOS have been in on the fun for a good while, and now it’s time for Android users to get theirs.

While developer CD Projekt RED has talked about this version of the game for quite some time, now we know it’ll officially come out for Android devices next month. You can see the announcement trailer below.

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game is available now on PC and iOS. The Android version will release on March 24th. Android players can sign up for pre-registration now.
The card game based spin-off of the popular Witcher game series, GWENT, is available and going now. The game was originally a minigame in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and now stands all its own as one of the most fun digital card games around. There was some bad news for the game recently, as console versions are now no longer being supported, but the other versions continue to truck on with a new expansion coming soon.

Merchant’s of Ofir introduces over 70 new cards themed after Ofir, the exotic setting seen in the Heart of Stone expansion for The Witcher 3. Log onto GWENT by December 16th to receive free keg, granting 5 Merchants of Ofir cards. There’s also a host expansion specific kegs, cards and other items in the game’s store. You can see a trailer for the expansion below.

GWENT is available now for PC, as well as all compatible iOS and Android mobile devices.

The digital version of the card game will lose two versions soon.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a pretty special game for a lot of reasons. Whether it be the size and scope of its world, or the writing which puts a large part of AAA gaming to shame. But it’s also interesting as a game within that game basically became its own thing. The GWENT card game within The Witcher 3 ended up being spun off from that game into its own thing, and it’s had its far share of updates and success. But it seems it’s not quite big enough to support all of its current versions.

As announced by developer CD Projekt RED, the company will no longer support updates for the PS4 and Xbox One port of the game, siting resources being too thin to support those and the ongoing PC and mobile versions. All isn’t lost, however. You will be able to copy your progress onto either the PC or mobile version for a period of six months before the game is completely removed. You can read more about that via the official announcement here.

GWENT will still run regularly on PC and iOS, with an Android version planned to come soon. The PS4 and Xbox One will function regularly until December 9th and then will be frozen to no longer have updates, in-app purchases or online matchmaking.

The digital card game gets one step closer to a mobile release.

GWENT was so popular of a minigame inside The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that it eventually spun off into its own game with GWENT: The Witcher Card Game. Despite being about as perfect as possible for mobile, the digital card game oddly didn’t release on either iOS or Android. That’s changing this month, and now we’re one step closer with a closed beta.

As announced via the official Twitter, sign ups for the closed beta on the iOS are open now and the beta client will launch sometime next year. The tweet as well as the sign up link are below.

The game won’t officially come out on mobile until the end of the month on October 29th, but if you’re really craving that GWENT action on the go you can sign up for the closed beta and see if you can get in. The developer will be using the opportunity and testing to make sure everything is running smoothly. As of now there’s been no word on an Android version.

In October, the hit RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is going on the go thanks to a very unexpected Switch port. But it’s not the only Witcher game going handheld that month, as GWENT: The Witcher Card Game is also going to make its mobile debut at the end of that same month.

GWENT was a minigame within The Witcher 3 that became so popular that CD Projekt RED spun it off into its own title. While the basics are the same, it’s a far more fleshed out experience than the original minigame. Oddly enough, despite being a type of game you’d expect to be perfect for mobile, the game took a good while to get there. It’s been available for PS4, Xbox One and PC for quite some time. But now iOS users can get in on the popular card game action soon.

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game launches on iOS October 29th. You can check out the announcement trailer below. Progress and purchases can also be shared between the iOS and PC versions of the game, though not to the console versions.

The person hired will help them in branding and marketing Cyberpunk 2077.

It seems like CD Projekt RED, the developer of the beloved The Witcher 3, as well as the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, is looking to hire a new person who will work as their American facing PR person, per a job listing they advertised on Twitter today. CD Projekt RED specifies Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and Cyberpunk 2077 as the games that that this applicant will end up coordinating communications for.

While the CD Projekt RED and GOG Twitter accounts have both gotten into hot water recently thanks to their objectionable tweets of transphobic content, this does not appear to be a listing in response to that. The listing specifically references press packs, presentations, branding, but no social media work, implying that this is not a role that involves social media messaging or representation of any nature.

As far as this listing goes, it seems like Cyberpunk 2077 may be nearing completion, if they are hiring a PR specialist for it. Meanwhile, I also hope that they will address their social media problems. If you’re interested in learning more about Cyberpunk 2077, you may be interested to know that CD Projekt RED are aiming for Red Dead Redemption 2 levels of polish for the game.
