While the Hitman series is set to have a well-deserved rest, it also seems as if the latest entry in the series, Hitman 3, has taken the series to seemingly new heights before this slumber. The game once again puts you in the shoes of Agent 47 as he hunts down various targets. The game comes at the tail end of an acclaimed reboot trilogy, and it’s one that’s struck a cord in a big way.

IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak sat down with GamesIndustry to talk about the game’s success as well as the future for IO going forward. There he revealed that the third game had sold a staggering 300% better than the previous game in the series, Hitman 2. While it was known the game had quite a successful launch, with stories like the game having the biggest digital launch in series history, that is still an incredible jump up.

IO Interactive is looking to close the book on Agent 47, at least for the time being, with Hitman 3. The game will round out the reboot trilogy, and looks to do so with a bit more storytelling in place. It’s coming out to more or less everything under the sun, and that includes the Switch via cloud streaming.

The cloud version of Hitman 3 was actually announced later last year alongside Remedy Entertainment’s Control – Cloud Version for the Switch, which is out now. It was unclear at that time if the plan was to release it at the same time as the other versions. Now, though, it’s been confirmed it will launch alongside them. This version will be similar to the Stadia version in the sense that you will need a decent internet connection, but if you do the game should be playable in full on Nintendo’s system.

Remember when Resident Evil 7: biohazard and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey saw cloud-based versions releasing for the Switch? Other developers are giving this method a spin with IO Interactive unveiling Hitman 3 – Cloud Version for the platform. Check out the announcement trailer below.

The cloud version will be available via the Nintendo eShop. It’s worth noting that a release date wasn’t provided so it could very well launch after Hitman 3 comes to other platforms next year. Given the Nintendo Switch’s general Wi-Fi capabilities, it should be interesting to see how Agent 47’s latest adventure runs.

Hitman 3 releases on January 20th 2021 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC (which is a timed exclusive for the Epic Games Store) and Google Stadia. It marks the end of the World of Assassination trilogy and features locations like Dubai, England and more. Those who purchase the title for current-gen platforms can avail of a free upgrade for next-gen consoles.
