Subscribers can also go hands-on with Madden NFL 26, BlazBlue Entropy Effect X, Starsand Island, Roadside Research, and more.

Game Pass has been on a roll since the year began, and February looks to continue that trend. After Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii was discovered to have joined the service, Microsoft has revealed the full first wave for the month. It starts with Madden NFL 26 on February 5 for Ultimate and PC subscribers alongside Paw Patrol Rescue Wheels: Championship.

Next is Relooted on February 10th, followed by BlazBlue Entropy Effect X on February 12th, both for Ultimate and PC tiers. The latter marks the rogue-lite action side-scroller’s debut on consoles, bringing a new character, biome, and story mode.

But wait, there’s more. On the same day, both subscriber tiers can check out Roadside Research, where up to four players control aliens running a gas station, Starsand Island, an early access farming game with an anime aesthetic. February 13th sees Henry coming to visit, specifically Henry of Skalitz, as Kingdom Come: Deliverance becomes available for Ultimate, Premium and PC tiers.

If that’s not enough open-world goodness, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora also joins the service on February 17th. Obsidian’s action RPG Avowed will become available for Premium subscribers on the same day. Fortunately, there’s only one game leaving the service on February 15th – Madden NFL 24 – but considering Madden NFL 26’s arrival, it’s not the biggest loss.

Zooming in at sales figures for just December, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 took the crown, with Battlefield 6 instead being ranked at third.

Alongside having revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been selling at a faster pace than the PS4 did in its launch year, Circana Analyst Mat Piscatella has also revealed software sales details for the year as well as the month of December. Battlefield 6 took the crown in game sales, topping the chart for the entire year. The multiplayer shooter was followed by NBA 2K26 in second place, Borderlands 4 in third place, and Monster Hunter Wilds in fourth place. Among the older titles in the best-sellers list were Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at tenth place, Minecraft at 13th place, Forza Horizon 5 at 16, and Grand Theft Auto 5 at 20.

Taking a closer look at software sales for the month of December, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 took the lead, with Battlefield 6 being ranked third. Other titles in the best-seller charts for the month are a mix of newer games like Donkey Kong Bananza and older titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Minecraft and Red Dead Redemption 2.

While other console makers might have started struggling with console sales last year, Nintendo has been doing quite well with the release of the Switch 2. Piscatella had confirmed, the Switch 2 ended up being the best-selling console of the year in the US, with the country accounting for 4.4 million units. Along with this, the new console is also noted as selling faster than the original Switch from back in 2017.

As he noted, the Switch 2’s hardware sales single-handedly managed to offset industry-wide downward trends in console hardware sales. Sony’s PS5 ranked second for the period. The Switch 2 has also been described by Piscatella as being the “fastest selling video game console hardware platform” in history so far.

While things might be going well for Nintendo for the time being, research firm Niko Partners has predicted that the company will end up raising the price of the Switch 2 thanks to the worldwide memory shortages affecting manufacturing. The firm noted that, while the Switch 2 is priced competitively when compared to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo might have to bring its latest console in line with its competitors to maintain profitability.

In the meantime, Battlefield Studios has been working hard on creating and testing more content for the upcoming second season of Battlefield 6. While it hasn’t yet revealed too many details aside from its February 17 launch date, the developers provided a few hints about what kind of content we can expect when Season 2 of Battlefield 6 is kicked off.

Among the new content coming to the game is a brand new map, dubbed Contagion, that will also feature its own unique gameplay mechanics. No details have been provided about these mechanics, aside from vague hints about players needing to use equipment to interact with them, a soldier wearing a gas mask in the teaser trailer, and the fact that the map’s name implies some sort of contagious infection will be involved.

Battlefield 6 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. For more details, check out our review from back when it first came out.

NBA 2K26, Monster Hunter Wilds, Borderlands 4 and Madden NFL 26 occupied the remaining top five slots according to Circana.

Circana’s video game spending report for the United States in November 2025 has been revealed, and perhaps unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 topped the charts. Even if Activision didn’t share sales figures, it’s expected – despite the awful campaign, the franchise remains one of the most popular worldwide.

However, in a change from previous years, it’s not the best-selling premium title for 2025 (ending November 29th). That went to EA’s Battlefield 6 with NBA 2K26 and Monster Hunter Wilds occupying the second and third spots. Black Ops 7 is in seventh place, just ahead of, conveniently enough, Black Ops 6.

Other notable titles in the top ten include Borderlands 4 at fourth place, EA Sports College Football 26 in fifth and Madden NFL 26 in sixth. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered occupied ninth place, followed by Ghost of Yōtei.

Returning to November’s sales, it was a surprisingly rough month for Nintendo Switch 2 releases as Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment debuted in tenth and eleventh, respectively. Of course, that doesn’t include digital sales.

The company attributed the drop in revenues to a number of things, including the lack of growth of its College Football franchise.

In its latest earnings report, Electronic Arts has confirmed that sales of its games in the period between July and September have fallen by 13 percent. In total, the company generated a revenue of $1.839 billion. The year-over-year fall in revenue is attributed to the fact that College Football 25 was a much more popular release last year than the newest iteration of the franchise has been this year.

While there might be dips in the company’s revenue, it has also noted that EA Sports Madden NFL 26 and EA Sports FC 26 both saw growth in sales, with the latter seeing “mid-single-digits” year-on-year growth when compared with EA Sports FC 25. Apex Legends has also seemingly grown in bookings, with the growth described by the company as being in the double digits. Along with this, EA also celebrated the launches of Skate and Battlefield 6.

“Across our broad portfolio — from EA Sports to Battlefield, The Sims, and skate. — our teams continue to create high-quality experiences that connect and inspire players around the world,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson in the earnings report. “The creativity, passion, and innovation of our teams are at the heart of everything we do.”

Interestingly, EA has also noted that it will no longer be hosting its usual earnings calls that typically involve the company’s leadership and analysts. This decision was likely made as the company makes its preparations to go private after being bought by an investor consortium that consists of Saudi Arabia’s PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. As the company had announced last month, this deal involves EA’s stockholders being paid a premium of 25 percent over the company’s share price as of September 25, 2025.

The deal, which is expected to be completed by Q1 FY2027, will turn EA into a completely privately-owned company. As part of the deal, PIF, which previously had a 9.9 percent stake in EA, will end up with 100 percent of the company’s ownership.

“Our creative and passionate teams at EA have delivered extraordinary experiences for hundreds of millions of fans, built some of the world’s most iconic IP, and created significant value for our business. This moment is a powerful recognition of their remarkable work,” said EA CEO and chairman Andrew Wilson in a statement.

While the long-term effects of this acquisition going through are yet to be seen, reports have already emerged of EA’s leadership having asked its employees to use AI-based tools for just about all aspects of their work. This ranges from generating code while programming, to generating concept art, and even middle-managers using LLM tools for advice on discussing sensitive subjects with workers under them.

Analysts have predicted that the acquisition, since it was a leveraged buyout of EA that has put the company into considerable debt, will end up with “an even stronger focus on evergreen IPs, blockbuster (fewer but potentially bigger games) and live services – at the expense of riskier projects, new ideas and innovation.” This means that EA will double down on its annual sports titles and other major franchises.

Another year, another Madden, so here’s a guide with some of the best tips and tricks to have an enjoyable experience.

Madden NFL 26 is here, and while the newest game in the series treads familiar ground, there are just enough tweaks to gameplay mechanics to keep this fresh for its long-standing player base. Which is why players, both new and old, stand to benefit from some little known strategies and settings for this year’s entry in the series.

This Madden NFL 26 guide has a small selection of the best tips and tricks players can use to get an edge both online and offline.

Player Transfer From College Football 26

If you’ve played College Football 26, you can transfer your custom player over into Madden NFL 26 and continue his journey to even greater heights. After finishing your college run, the process is simple: run Madden NFL 26, go to Superstar Mode and choose the transferred position. Confirm the various statistics and proceed to any further cosmetic customization you would like to apply to your player.

Perform well in the drills and your player will have a higher chance of being selected sooner in the draft.

Bonus XP From College Ultimate Team 26

Under Sets, there is a College Ultimate Team 26 to Madden Ultimate Team 26 Crossover Set with a single use opportunity and a year-long expiry. You may even be able to accomplish this without actually owning College Football 26, by simply playing the free trial of that game for a short while via EA Play. The effort is worth 125K XP, which is significant enough to be worth the effort.

Reticle Speed Settings

For best effect, set your Reticle Speed under Passing Mechanics in the Settings to about halfway, to give you plenty of time to successfully make accurate passes.

In games versus with the CPU, you can skip the too-long, automatic showboat cutscenes after scoring touchdowns. This can save you a great deal of time, especially when you are focused on grinding for dailies and coins. All you have to do is veer towards the middle of the endzone, and when one or two steps from the line, perform a manual showboat to get a truncated celebration.

Quick End Challenges

Another time-saving mechanic can be used in Challenges that require you to win or play out the game entirely. If you are already clearly winning with roughly two minutes left, simply QB Kneel via Formation > Special Teams, to run out the clock.

Casual Online Matchmaking

When playing online, bear in mind that the greater majority of players are in the continental United States, specifically on the east coast. Therefore, the largest potential pool of casual opponents on weekdays will come online sometime after the end of school or working hours, and will go offline around bedtime. Outside of those hours you will almost consistently be matched up with tryhards and hardcore players.

Practicing Field Goals

There has been an apparent increase to the difficulty in kicking field goals, so if you would like to practice them without the pressure of a live match, you can use some specific settings in Practice mode to do so. Under Practice Settings change Practice Type to Offense only, with Difficulty and Game Style at your discretion. On the field, select the Formation tab, and then Special Teams to begin practicing field goals.

Timing Field Goals

When kicking field goals, your best bet is to pick a direction of travel for the gauge that you are most comfortable with, be it left to right, or right to left. Next, count down from when the arrow hits the far edge of the gauge and begins travelling in your preferred direction, then kick during the count. As you mash the kick button on a given number, make note where the arrow lands on the gauge. Depending on how fast you count, a perfect kick could be one-two-kick, or one-two-three-kick. With enough practice you will get a good rhythm down eventually.

Viewing And Buying Strategy Items

Strategy Item cards are available for every position in your team. Use the Catalog tab and the Type – Strategy filter to view every single one of the 98 Strategy card items available. This interface also makes it easy enough to access the Auction House directly for any given card that may catch your interest.

Upgrading Items

Upgrade your items, including season pass players and pack items for maximum value. Simply go to My Items, then select the item, and tab over to Upgrade in the top left. The upgrade path may require Upgrade Tokens, Training, or Coins, based on the item, all of which are acquired through gameplay. Once added, you can also opt to Refund it, if you change your mind.

Those are some tips and tricks to make things easier for you in Madden NFL 26.

A guide to earning coins in the economy of Madden NFL 26 quickly and without spending any real cash.

Coins are the basis of the economy in Madden NFL 26, and are a critical resource for building your ultimate team. While you will be earning a fair amount of coins over the course of normal gameplay, there is a lot you can do to grind them faster and easier without the process being annoying.

This guide is all about farming for coins quickly and efficiently in Madden NFL 26 without wasting time or money.

Dailies and Weeklies

These run-of-the-mill objectives are the bread and butter of a steady coin income in the Madden franchise, and over the course of seasons, every coin will count towards the millions you will eventually accrue.

Events

These events are intended to be accomplished within a certain timeframe before they are rotated out. The coin rewards are huge even when failing to achieve a 10/10 win result. Additionally, you can acquire a number of packs to open, which in turn can be disposed of for their coin value.

Training Packs

The Store categorizes packs in several distinct sections, and the training tab in particular has a pack with assured quick sell coin value from the high 80+ OVR pulls. There will only be one pack available, but more packs should drop over the course of seasons.

Set Completion

Completing sets for their rewards is relatively easy, by simply sniping cheap deals on players in the auction house. Rinse and repeat as necessary, and reap those coin rewards which will always outweigh the coins spent acquiring the players for the set.

Auction House

The auction house in general can be a source for great deals that can be flipped or parlayed into set completion, both of which can turn a tidy profit. You will have to come to grips with using the filters, and being vigilant with new offers as they appear.

Those are all the methods for coin farming in order of complexity in Madden NFL 26.

Here’s a guide on how to grind your way to maximum avatar level with minimal effort and no money spent in Madden NFL 26.

Leveling up your avatar in Madden NFL 26 is a crucial aspect of game progression, opening up access to skill points and ability slots. Grinding for XP has always been a part of the process in the Madden franchise, but there are a few things you can do to alleviate the boredom.

This Madden NFL 26 guide has everything you need to know about quickly and efficiently reaching the current maximum level of 45 with your avatar.

Dailies

A tried and true strategy for 5000 easy XP each and every day. Checking your 3 daily objectives at the start of your play session for the day should be your routine. These objectives are always easy to complete, even if you are pressed for time, and should never take you more than 30 minutes to run through.

Achieving the 7-day streak which resets weekly, will also earn you some rewards.

Weeklies

Simply the weekly counterpart to dailies, these reset on Wednesdays, giving you ample time to run through them over the course of seven days. Slightly more involved than dailies, you still won’t have to struggle to complete them as they tend to be fairly mundane in-game activities with a certain number to achieve. Completion is worth 12600 XP each.

Events

These events are intended to be accomplished within a certain timeframe before they are rotated out. The rewards tend to be commensurate with this limited availability, and often have plenty of overlap with various daily and weekly objectives, saving you the trouble of grinding them out specifically.

Season Programs

Currently on season one, the programs tab has a single mission with a number of objectives to complete for about 6250 XP apiece. The objectives track in any ultimate team game mode, and will not expire as more and more missions are added over the course of the seasons. The current mission is worth 75000 XP in total, spread across 12 objectives.

Following this simple routine is all you need to do to reach your avatar’s maximum level at a comfortable pace in Madden NFL 26.

This year’s edition delivers improved Superstar and Franchise modes along with some much-needed presentation polish, yet it still struggles with many of the same issues as last year.

College Football 26 seemed poised to gain my greater favor among the two football siblings. I prefer the marching band soundtrack, find the pageantry to be more lively, and the sheer amount of teams and stadiums just appeal to me more. But alas, even after some initial pain points with the load times and menus, I’ve been thoroughly surprised. Madden 26 adds just the right amount of primetime pizazz to its gameday presentation and enough iteration to make it stand out from College Football 26, which is impressive considering my initial bias. But as usual, familiar lingering woes plague this year’s Madden. Let’s dig in and explore.

My first moments with the new Madden weren’t exactly ideal. After the 60 gigs of data were finished installing, I booted up the game and went through an unnecessary Ultimate Team Pass tutorial, something some will never use or fiddle with. My favorite team and difficulty sliders from Madden 25 carried over, so there was little to fiddle with in the settings, which I appreciate. But for new players, there’s a hefty range of sliders to tailor the experience to any skill level imaginable. Everything from the type of playbooks, evenly matched teams, four different passing types, and much more are adjustable.

As I finished setting the music playlist to my football experience, I found myself watching the menu movie, which showcases real footage of last season’s star players. To my dismay, this menu movie cannot be customized whatsoever, nor can it be turned off for a less distracting visual banner. I thought I was being a tad nitpicky when all of a sudden my game hard crashed. Okay, let’s try that again and hope my PS5 data isn’t corrupted.

"The menu movie cannot be customized whatsoever, nor can it be turned off for a less distracting visual banner."

I wanted to actually play the game, so decided to just do some offensive practice after loading it up again. Lo and behold, upon returning to the menu, I’m greeted with another dreaded hard crash. These were the only two crashes I’ve had throughout my time and they both occurred early on while watching the menu movie; weird. Anyway, why the fine folks at EA decided to torment Giants fans with the barrage of Eagles footage playing on loop is beyond me. You’re practically forced to select your favorite team in the game, so why not grace the menus with that team’s visuals instead of a stock movie on loop? Worse yet, some sub-menus are opaque to the point where you can see the movie playing through it, leading to visual confusion.

Anyway, on to the first game mode I checked out: Dynasty. Lots of bells and whistles got added to this year’s coach-centric Dynasty mode. But my main issues from last year remain mostly the same, albeit in different guises. Chief among the Dynasty disappointments are the clunky user interface and menuing. At the core of Dynasty is the vast level of control offered to players shaping their team. This micromanagement involves a LOT of menuing, which leads to laborious load times.

I’ll describe one egregious case example. You’re taken through not one, not two, but three separate loading screens when upgrading players with skill points, four if you count the load into the Player Upgrade menu itself. There is a helpful option to upgrade all players at once, but that takes control away from the player, automating the process. Manually allocating skill points shouldn’t take me through three loading screens per player. It’s simply inexcusable in a 2025 video game. Thankfully, browsing rosters doesn’t feel as sluggish as before, but man, upgrading players and coaches is downright awful.

Position battles are an admittedly smaller disappointment. I had a 2nd string HalfBack request he be the starter. Fair enough, just prove you’ve got what it takes through the three pre-season and you’ve got your spot. Well, he was doing great except for his single-game injury during the pre-season finale. He was automatically cut from starting position consideration due to this brief injury. As the head coach, I can still make him starter through the depth chart. But then what’s the point of position battles in Franchise? It’s even worse in Superstar mode where you are the player in question fighting for starting position. A bit of an oversight to not take single-game injuries into consideration of position battles.

Load time and position battle woes aside, the overhauled coach abilities and playsheets RPG-ify Franchise to a satisfying degree. Each ability has multiple tiers that get unlocked as you complete goals relating to the ability. You can really min/max your team through these abilities. For example, stacking up your highest tiered defensive abilities and playsheets will greatly raise your chances of turnovers and 3rd down stoppages. It’s fun to switch up abilities based on the team you’re playing against as it adds a good amount of strategy, making the player feel more in-control of weekly battles than ever.

"It’s fun to switch up abilities based on the team you’re playing against"

Madden 26 starts putting a smile on my face once I’m out on the field playing regular season games. You can tell there’s been substantial effort to bring the extravagant broadcast presentation to life this year. Teams now have their own pre-game rituals. In the case of my Patriots, I didn’t particularly love seeing Gronk out there striking the bell every single home game (interesting retirement gig), but the added pageantry and addition of mascots is noteworthy. Some teams even have little chants that play as you exit the matchup menu into the game. What’s more, Thursday and Sundays feature different presentations and commentators to match their real life broadcast counterparts.

The improved halftime show feels more substantial too, with updated scores and clips from games played that day. And I’m particularly thankful for the weekly recap show, which kind of fulfills the same purpose albeit in a more thorough manner. These weekly recaps keep me from looking at the sterile league standings and match menus every week.

We’ll get to the on-field gameplay soon, but it’s worth visiting Superstar mode briefly. The big difference from last year’s iteration is the new chapter structure. You’re still doing the same things, like getting drafted, fighting for starting position, and trying to get into the playoffs, but now it’s all guided through chapter objectives. Many early objectives require you to accumulate influence with a range of staff, fans, and even doctors. This is done through the Sphere of Influence map, which indicates how much experience points are needed to increase your influence level with staff. This is all much better telegraphed than last year’s more basic chemistry system.

"The big difference from last year’s iteration is the new chapter structure."

While not termed ‘storylines’ this time around, off-the-field player moments are largely the same as last year, but better presented. Scenes talking with your agent or coordinator look more natural and feature a greater number of backgrounds, though they still lack voice acting. While these changes are small, they are welcome and help make Superstar mode more appealing.

It was through my opening season as a receiving halfback where I first felt the subtle improvements in gameplay over last year. Everything just feels more well put together. Running feels intuitive and those sudden flatline tackles out of nowhere don’t’ happen as much, meaning the hit and hurt boxes have been improved. There’s clearly more complex animations and physics models going on here under the hood, but without being a total transformation. Like I said, it’s a subtle improvement. I also noticed that receivers don’t quite drop the pass as often when morale is low or they’re rattled, though it still happens more often than is reasonable. It’s noticeable how varied and organic EA managed to make touchdown dives, arm arcs when throwing, and of course tackles. There’s been some wild spin dives and flip hurdles that I’ve never seen in a football game before.

Finally, there’s Ultimate Team, EA’s ongoing live service model. Menus are still a slog to get through in this mode, with every sub-menu taking a three to five second load to initiate. This is largely the same Ultimate Team mode players have been used to for some time now with little in the way of innovation or additions.

"It’s noticeable how varied and organic EA managed to make touchdown dives, arm arcs when throwing, and of course tackles."

All in all, Madden NFL 26 is a competent football sim that can be tailored to any kind of experience you want, whether that be coaching a franchise, competing online in leagues, or just enjoying short exhibition games here and there. There’s not a vast number of improvements and overhauls, which follows the trend of sports games iterating rather than innovating. But the added presentation gloss, smoothed out gameplay animations, and wealth of options make this a worthy successor to last year’s game.

The trailer gives us a look at various gameplay features, like how players can call out fresh plays in the midst of a match and call in stunts.

As we get closer to the August 14 release of Madden NFL 26, EA has released a new trailer for the game, this time offering us a proper look at the core gameplay of the sports title over the course of 23 minutes. The trailer, which you can check out below, features three matches: Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Vikings vs Philadelphia Eagles, and Arizona Cardinals vs Baltimore Ravens.

Along with showing off the second-to-second gameplay of the upcoming sports title, the trailer also goes into detail about some of the game’s features, such as the ability for players to take advice from their team coaches when it comes to deciding on what play they want to execute next. Quite a few of the tactical options that players will have at their disposal are also showcased, such as the ability to change up plays on the fly by calling for new stunts.

We also get to see the reactions of some of the athletes from the teams featured in the trailer as they try to play the game. As the trailer goes on, we also get to see how things like the weather will have an effect on gameplay. A match taking place when it’s snowing, for example, will heavily impair visibility for the match, not just for the in-game athletes, but for the players as well.

Back in July, EA had offered up quite a few details about the steps it was taking to ensure that Madden NFL 26 would feel as authentic as possible. To achieve this, the company confirmed that 18 different team mascots will be available in the game at launch, including Swoop representing the Eagles and Billy Buffalo representing the Bills. Stadiums have also gotten an upgrade, with authentic motion graphics for 26 different teams. EA has also confirmed that more mascots and motion graphics will be added to the game with post-launch updates.

A big source of the game’s authenticity comes from it also emulating the various teams’ different pre-match rituals. An example provided included the Minnesota Vikings sounding the Gjallarhorn for specific events, with the sound going to a higher pitch on the first down, and then going into a low pitch when the team switches to defense on the third down. EA has confirmed that Madden NFL 26 will feature brand new effects, including authentic recordings of chants like Cincinnati’s “Who Dey” and New Orleans’ “Who Dat”.

A trailer released for Madden NFL 26 back in June gave us a look at the game’s new Coach and QB DNA features. These features have been part of EA’s efforts at instilling more authenticity into the game, with the company referring to them as a “leap forward”. The new features are based on new machine learning systems.

Madden NFL 26 was unveiled alongside EA Sports College Football 26.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Mafia: The Old Country, and Gears of War: Reloaded are among the biggest games of the month.

It’s that time of the year again, when the cadence of major video game releases skyrockets. While the heavy hitters are still to come, the month promises numerous follow-ups, long-awaited remakes, major exclusives launching for other consoles, classic IP revivals, and an anime adaptation (but not the one you’re thinking). Here are 15 of the biggest new releases to look forward to in August 2025.

Mafia: The Old Country

Almost nine years after Mafia 3, Hangar 13 is going back, at least chronologically, with Mafia: The Old Country. Set in 1900s Sicily, players control Enzo Favara as he transitions from an indentured labourer to a Torrisi family mafioso. Quaint countrysides and ruins replace sprawling cities while Enzo engages in as many knife duels as gun fights. As more of a linear narrative, Mafia: The Old Country could be the revival that the series needs when it launches on August 8th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

Echoes of the End

Announced four years ago, Echoes of the End launches on August 12th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. As Ryn, players work alongside Abram Finlay to explore the fantasy world of Aema and stop a conspiracy. With a healthy mix of magic, exploration, puzzle-solving, platforming and, of course, combat, Myrkur Games promises a new yet also comfortingly familiar adventure.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 (PS5)

After debuting on PS4 (and PC) all those years ago, Senua finally returns with her latest adventure, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, which launches on August 12th for PS5. “Adventure” is probably being a little kind since she ventures to Iceland to battle the Northmen, draugar and other horrors, all while managing her psychosis. Still, with gorgeous visuals, a cinematic presentation and a new update that adds 60 FPS, it may be worthwhile for PS5 players.

Madden NFL 26

Madden NFL is back yet again, and we can’t even say it’s personal. Nevertheless, Madden NFL 26 does offer a few new features, including the new Sphere of Influence system in Career Mode, new coach archetypes for Franchise mode, extreme weather conditions that affect gameplay, and a revamped presentation. It’s out on August 14th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Drag x Drive

Honestly, I don’t know what Nintendo is thinking with Drag x Drive. As unique as the concept is and how much the Switch 2’s mouse controls are interwoven, the marketing has been mysteriously sparse. Nevertheless, there’s some hope that the actual game offers much more than we’ve already seen (which looked solid, if nothing else). We’ll find out when it launches on August 14th for $19.99.

Black Myth: Wukong (Xbox Series X/S)

One year after launching on PS5 and PC (no timed exclusive deal, by the way), Black Myth: Wukong launches on August 20th for Xbox Series X/S. With over 20 million sold in its first month and Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam, it’s finally time for Xbox players to witness the legend first-hand. Of course, if you’re craving a stellar action-adventure title with fun boss fights, gorgeous visuals and a unique art direction, Wukong is more than worth the journey.

Gears of War: Reloaded

It’s yet another end of an era for Xbox as Gears of War: Reloaded brings the cover-based shooter to PlayStation for the first time. Even if you’ve already enjoyed the original, there are plenty of reasons to revisit it, including 4K and 120 FPS support in multiplayer, no loading screens in the campaign, and improved shadows and reflections. Best of all, it’s free for all Ultimate Edition owners on Xbox and PC.

Helldivers 2 (Xbox Series X/S)

Arrowhead Game Studios’ hit co-op shooter Helldivers 2 is finally diving onto Xbox Series X/S on August 26th, bringing all the bug stomping, Automaton crushing and Illuminate…battling to a brand new audience. Crossplay is the biggest feature, which should bolster the already healthy player count, even as would-be fans hope for some kind of crossover with the likes of Halo. Whether it happens or not, Helldivers 2 is a must-play for those on Xbox.

Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening

Among the many anime adaptations out there, few may have expected a side-scrolling platformer based on 1982’s Space Cobra. Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening follows the titular Cobra once more, as they venture forth across planets to save the universe. On top of blasting foes with the Psychogun, you’ll have to platform and avoid traps, either alone or in two-player co-op. Whether you’re seeking a new action platformer or a faithful adaptation of the anime’s first 12 episodes, Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening launches on August 26th for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World

Even after all these years, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is still a great 3D platformer. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition enhances the visuals and adds Star-Crossed World, where a mysterious meteor has altered various levels. There are new paths and enemies to deal with alongside new Mouthful Modes and a new Wild Mode for a higher difficulty. Is it worth dropping $80? Probably not, but if you own the original, the $20 upgrade might be worthwhile when the Switch 2 version launches on August 28th.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Another classic franchise that’s being revived almost a decade later (we don’t talk about 2018), and this time, it’s arguably Konami’s most iconic yet. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater arrives on August 28th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, featuring revamped environmental textures, character models, and effects. The classic narrative remains, but Konami (with help from Virtuos) has added a new over-the-shoulder perspective and quality-of-life features. Of course, those who want the original’s control style and camera can still enable the same.

Lost Soul Aside

There are games which have been in development for a long while, and then there’s Lost Soul Aside, which took inspiration from Final Fantasy 15 when it was still called Versus 13. Despite numerous delays – including one this year already – it’s finally launching on August 29th for PS5 and PC. A lot is going on with its art direction and story, but most importantly, the combat has held up remarkably well all this time. For those seeking a more character-driven action title, Lost Soul Aside could be the answer.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance channels the brutal side-scrolling action of the classics with a drop-dead gorgeous 2D art style courtesy of Lizardcube. Between the combo-based action, stellar Ninja Arts, detailed environments and seamless movement, you couldn’t ask for a better revival. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is slicing its way onto Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on August 29th.

The Rogue Prince of Persia

You’d be hard-pressed to recognize The Rogue Prince of Persia since it entered early access last year, but it’s seen an art style change and heaps of new content since then. The essence of the premise – the Prince being stuck in a time loop as he tries, again and again, to save his kingdom – still holds, but there are more levels, weapons, branching paths, and bosses. Version 1.0 promises to cap it all off when it launches in August – here’s hoping it can top Evil Empire’s previous work on Dead Cells.

Sword of the Sea

From the studio behind ABZU and The Pathless comes another meditative exploration title where you, the Wraith, must restore the ocean to a mysterious barren Necropolis. You’ll traverse it on a Hoversword, which simultaneously allows for surfing, grinding and snowboarding while appreciating the incredible vistas (and vibes). Sword of the Sea launches on August 19th for PS5 and PC.
