Sony’s output of first party exclusives might have been lighter in 2019 than what we’ve become used to seeing from them this console generation (or what we’re going to see from them this year), but that doesn’t mean there was no stuff to enjoy at all. One of the smaller projects was a ground-up remake of the PS1 classic MediEvil, developed by Other Ocean Emeryville, and though it didn’t exactly set the world ablaze, the fans of the property were more than happy with how they modernized the game.

Given that, many have been hoping that a remake for MediEvil 2 will follow as well, and sure enough, some developments just last month made it seem like that might happen. Unfortunately though, it seems like that’s not the case- for now, at least. Jeff Nachbaur, producer at Other Ocean Emeryville, recently took to Twitter to confirm that the studio is no longer working on anything more related to MediEvil. He did, though, add that Other Ocean would be “more than happy” to continue working with the series, and that they have “some grand plans for future Dan adventures if given the chance.”

Here’s hoping Sony responds to what fans of the series are hoping to see, and teams up with Other Ocean once again not long from now. I know I wouldn’t mind playing a MediEvil 2 remake on the PS5.

Last Halloween, we got to see the return of the cult classic MediEvil with a ground-up remake of the game on PS4. The game follows Sir Daniel as he’s resurrected and battles evil as a literal skeleton of his former self. The franchise was a short-lived one on the original PlayStation, but has seen revivals from time to time with re-releases of the first title. However, there was a sequel as well, one that’s been less revisited- but that may change if a tease from the original game’s composer is anything to go by.

On his official Twitter, composer Andrew Barnabas responded to a tweet from a MediEvil fan account simply saying “2.” His answer was coy, saying “actually…” before seeming to stop just short of saying that something was happening with the second game. He also replied to a user who said the recent remake wasn’t successful and therefore wouldn’t lead to a remake of the sequel, saying that was incorrect. Sony has said little about the first MediEvil remake since it released.

MediEvil 2 takes place in a Victorian London setting. There’s been less love in general directed its way than for its predecessor, but for fans who enjoyed revisiting Sir Daniel’s first adventure, it’ll surely be a welcome return. Whether or not Barnabas is just teasing or there is more to this is something we’ll just have to see. Hopefully, though, Sir Daniel’s resurrection continues.

Remember when Sony announced that a remaster of classic action platformer MediEvil would be coming to the PlayStation 4? It’s easy to forget, but that announcement was almost one year ago at PlayStation Experience 2017. Not much news has been shared since then, to the dismay of fans. That is, except for a few rumours that emerged in March 2018 that said MediEvil 2 would be included in the package.

Fortunately, we may be getting some official news soon. Sid Shuman, PlayStation’s social media director, on the PlayStation Blogcast confirmed there will be news about the MediEvil remaster soon. Shawn Layden, chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios, will appear on the podcast in the next week or two to offer more information.

Shuman’s confirmation can be heard 34 minutes in through here. It’s possible that MediEvil receives an update on its next appearance, perhaps at Paris Games Week 2018, where Sony is a regular. The event takes place from October 31st to November 4th, so fingers crossed that something emerges.

MediEvil was announced for the PS4 back in December but apart from a trailer, we didn’t receive much information about the game’s release. Now, some rumors have emerged which state that even MediEvil II will be included with the new remastered game.

According to the information possibly provided by Walmart and Target employees (via Twitter users), the game will become available for pre-order on April 19. Additionally, the Twitter user who shared the information also stated that we may see a full reveal of the game at PAX East on April 5. This new remastered edition of the original game may include some significant changes as it is stated to be “a proper, PS4 grade resurrection” of the original game.

Take this information with a grain of salt as it is nothing more than a rumor as of now and we’ll have to wait for official confirmation. MediEvil remastered edition for the PS4 is set to release sometime this year.
