Nintendo might continue to make more classic editions of its consoles, which is a tough ordeal considering the very prevalent hardware shortages.

During a Nintendo shareholder meeting held on Tuesday, Nintendo was asked about its plans for the future of its mini consoles. As transcribed by VGC, president Shuntaro Furukawa replied, “We always want our products to be played by people of all ages, from children to adults. In fact, after being in the video game business for many years, we believe that there is now a very wide range of generations who have adopted Nintendo consoles.”

It comes as no surprise that Nintendo directs its mini-consoles towards consumers who no longer play video games, but have had experiences with presumably Nintendo consoles in the past. Furukawa also drops a suggestion about how re-experiencing their past helps in drawing more people into buying a new console. Shuntaro Furukawa says, “We will continue to examine the possibility of offering classic content, such as with the NES and Super NES Classic Mini series, as well as our online services, as a way of communicating the appeal of our products to different generations.”

Nintendo’s attempts with the NES and SNES classic have been incredibly successful, and competitors including the likes of Sony have also joined in with their own classic consoles. Of course, there’s also the fact that manufacturing anything at a large scale is incredibly difficult right now, mostly due to chip shortages.

Nintendo also seems to be on to something with reports and rumors of a Switch Pro flooding through on a consistent basis.

The best gaming records you need to check out.

You gotta respect the kind of effort that goes into being the best in the world at something, and that kind of effort certainly deserves recognition. The kind of people who can organize the world’s largest tournaments or can say they’ve played the longest gaming session ever recorded are certainly something. We’re not here for those ones. We’re here to talk about some of the stranger ones, so buckle up and be sure to discuss your favourite below.

Jesse Moerkerk – Longest Game Session In Freefall

Some might say that Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the gravity mechanics within are out of this world, but gamer Jesse Moerkerk took that a bit more seriously than Nintendo intended when in 2011, he spent 18 minutes and 52 seconds within an indoor sky dive playing the game mid free fall. The 6’5” man was said to be very graceful while remaining suspended, though I imagine the waggling of the Wii Remote could have easily sent him into a tailspin.

Nintendo's uber-popular retro console will be available till 2018 end.

Nintendo promised that the NES Classic Edition, which was near impossible to find last year, would return in Summer 2018 and it’s made good on that promise. The company confirmed that the mini console would enter retail stores again on June 29th. Retailing for $60, it will be available alongside the SNES Classic until the year ends.

The NES Classic features 30 classic titles like Super Mario Bros 1 to 3, Donkey Kong, Castlevania, Dr. Mario, Galaga, Ice Climber, Mega Man 2, Pac-Man, The Legend of Zelda and many more. Upon arriving in November 2016, both pre-orders and launch day units were immediately sold out.

Though it received additional units in later months, these would also sell out quickly. It was discontinued in April 2017 with the SNES Classic arriving in September 2017. The latter featured classic titles like Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Secret of Mana and the previously unreleased Star Fox 2.

What are your thoughts on the NES Classic Edition going on sale again? Let us know in the comments below.

Last shipments of the console coming in April.

The hard-to-get NES Classic Edition from Nintendo has been discontinued. The last shipments of the retro console will be made available in North America throughout April before it’s gone for good.

A representative told IGN that, “Throughout April, NOA [Nintendo of America] territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability.

“We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.”

Of course, sale of the NES Classic Edition wasn’t “intended to be an ongoing, long-term product” with additional shipments simply being done due to excess demand. What are your thoughts on its discontinuation though? Let us know below.
