Yves Guillemot says next-generation won't be the last one for consoles

Here is what Ubisoft’s Boss, Yves Guillemot had to say regarding next-generation and future generations of consoles.

“I still think it is not the last generation, because the manufacturers want a way to control their platform and the machine is the best way to have a specific access to that. What I’m happy with is, because we’ve been waiting for a long time, if we really come with high quality games then the public will come very quickly to buy them. So we will see a big increase in the market.”

“I think that the cloud is going to change a few things. Now with cloud and the increase of bandwidth we should have the possibility to increase the quality of games a lot over the next few years. But I think five years is the right timing for it. If we can take advantage of the quality those machines bring, and if we can spend money, then I think we can make the business grow very fast.”

It’s definitely an interesting topic, however; it’s hard to judge right now because next-generation hasn’t even started. Let it begin, and let’s enjoy for what it is and then worry about what the future brings. Meanwhile, I do agree thought that it’s fun to think about years ahead no matter what.

Let us know what your opinion is on next-generation consoles in the comments section down below.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more news and updates.

Eric Pangilian isn't worried about Next-Generation hype taking away the attention from The Last of Us.

Eric Pangilinan the Art Director for The Last of Us has stated during Sony’s PlayStation pre-E3 event in Santa Monica that he isn’t worried about The Last of Us getting lost in the hype currently surrounding next-generation platforms, particularly the PlayStation 4.

“Naughty Dog has always released really good quality products regardless of what platform it’s on. I think the PS3 still has a lot of life in it. We’ve managed to show this with uncharted stuff, and then The Last of Us looks beautiful,” said Pangilinan in an interview with Canada.com.

Pangilian also stated that if the PlayStation 4 didn’t exist, Naughty Dog would try their best to get even more impressive graphics by developing more titles on the PlayStation 3.

Meanwhile, Eric Pangilinan has said he actually didn’t had the time to look at what’s going on with PlayStation 4 or anything that’s related with the next-gen platform.

“Honestly, I have been focused so much on this game. I mean we just finished this (laughs). This is all I’ve lived and breathed, so I’d be lying if I said anything about it,” said Pangilinan.

It seems like Naughy Dog is quite confident that The Last of Us will not be missed or overshadowed by next-gen hype. It’s also safe to assume that The Last of Us sequels will be in the works soon for PlayStation 4 after a recent discovery of Sony registered The Last of Us 2 and The Last of Us 3 website domains.

Were also very excited and hoping that they do have something to show for PlayStation 4 at Sony’s E3 Press Conference on June 10th. Remember, Naughty Dog has two separate teams, one for The Last of Us and another for something else.

Let us know if you’re stoked for The Last of Us and can’t wait to play it in the comments below.

Check back on GamingBolt for our review of the game in the next few weeks as we near the June 14th launch for The Last of Us.

Director of Programming for Xbox Live Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb recently announced that Microsoft will indeed be having a reveal for the next Xbox on May 21st. “We’ll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment,” said Hryb.

Along with a live global stream on Xbox Live and Xbox.com, the event will be broadcast on Spike TV. Microsoft promises to share their vision for Xbox and then continue the conversation – so to speak – at E3 2013 which will be taking place on June 11th to 13th where they will be revealing their lineup of high profile games.

A site has also been set up for the event, where individuals can enter their email addresses and receive invites to the event taking place on The Xbox Campus at 10.00 AM.

What do you think Microsoft will reveal at the event? The next generation of classic franchises like Halo, Forza and Fable? Or just more Kinect nonsense? Stay tuned, because there’s plenty of time left.

Next-Generation Xbox Launch Titles Unveiled?

Ryse was originally unveiled at E3 2010 for Xbox 360 as ‘Codename: Kingdoms’. Then, a year later at E3 2011 the project was unveiled as a Kinect project under the name ‘Ryse”. Ryse was advertised as a game that was set in ancient Rome, the title strongly suggested strong violence and gore and was to be controlled by using Kinect tracking systems.

But then Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said last year that it’s one of his “personal darlings so it’s going to be rock-solid and strong”.

Meanwhile, The Verge has been getting information from their sources, “Ryse is designed to be Microsoft’s new Gears of War / Halo mega launch title.”

Ryse will take full advantage of the Kinect’s body tracking system in the next-generation Kinect 2.0.

A zombie title title along with a family-friendly game that is set on an island with Pixar movie-like style graphics will also be a part of Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox 720 launch line up.

Also, The Verge was told that a brand new Forza game will feature “super life-like” graphics, and that the family pixar-like title will use Kinect to scan bodies and generate virtual characters in-game.

It has also been reported that third-party software will support the FPS genre strongly and that Microsoft will be getting away from Xbox Live’s Microsoft Points system to real money transactions instead.

We have previously reported that Microsoft might be unveiled the Next-Generation Xbox on May 21st 2013

Keep your eyes peeled on GamingBolt for more news regarding the Next-Generation Xbox. Stay tuned and post any comments you have done below.

Ubisoft's purchase of THQ Montreal means the return of Patrice Desilets.

Patrice Desilets, best known for creating the Assassin’s Creed franchise before he left to join THQ in 2010, has returned to Ubisoft. He was working at THQ Montreal when the publisher went bankrupt and the studio was hence purchased by Ubisoft during the January auction.

A spokesperson for the company stated to Polygon that, “We are very pleased to welcome Patrice to Ubisoft again and anticipate that this renewed partnership will produce new ideas and high-quality titles for Ubisoft’s customers.

“In the coming weeks we’ll be looking at how to offer an organizational structure that provides continuity for the creative teams involved. Unannounced projects from THQ Montreal are included as part of the acquisition.”

Currently, there are two projects under construction: 1666, with Desilets leading, and Underdog. Both are working titles so expect the final games to be radically different. As for whether Desilets will return to the franchise that has made so much money for Ubisoft, we’ll have to wait and see.

Director Hajime Tabata felt the PSP title was always meant for a higher machine.

In a newly translated interview that comes from the official art book, Final Fantasy Type-0 director Hajime Tabata talks about doing an experiment with the PlayStation Portable title to see how it would appear on an HD TV.

“We did think about how fun it would be playing Type-0 on a HD television. In fact we did experiment with it, and it was definitely submersive. But unfortunately, there are no plan as of yet.”

During development, the team always felt that Tyoe-0 was meant for a higher end machine. The end result – which is still considered one of the better Final Fantasy games on any console so far – certainly indicates the same.

The interesting thing is that they team would definitely go forward with something like that if there’s a sequel. Perhaps on the PlayStation 4 or Next Xbox? Maybe even on the Wii U? How about all three? Regardless, it would be amazing and serve as a wonderful antithesis to the garbage that is the Lightning saga.

A wrongly named album for scanned cars could hold the key (seriously).

It must be tough keeping a secret when so many free agent are involved. Such is the case with Gran Turismo 6, the next game in Sony’s racing simulation franchise. It was previously rumoured that the game would be releasing on PlayStation 3, but that appears to not be the case.

A car manufacturer recently put up pictures of cars being scanned for inclusion in a Gran Turismo game. The album was named, “Scansione Per Gran Turismo PS4” which is Italian for “Scan for Gran Turismo PS4”. The photos were taken at LM Gianetti’s manufacturer base.

At first it was assumed to be wrong labeled – however, afterwards the album had its name changed to “Scanning Gran Turismo” before being removed altogether. If that isn’t conspicuous, what is?

Of course, this isn’t official confirmation and it could have been simply renamed to prevent associations or rumours from spreading. Nonetheless, it is interesting. Check out some of the photos from the album below.

Garrett returns to a plague infested City and steals stuff. So not much has changed.

Eidos Montreal’s Thief 4, a next generation take on the cult favourite first person sneaker, looks good. Really good. In fact, despite the game’s magical elements being significantly toned down this time around, there will still be enough to entice gamers looking for the best ways to infiltrate wealthy manors and “relieve” denizens of their personal wares.

New details have since emerged from Game Informer, who had seen a gameplay demo for the game. According to the story, Garrett has returned to The City to find it plagued by, er, plague, a police-state infrastructure and the Baron who controls everything with an iron fist.

The regular stealth mechanics come into play. A dark tint on-screen tells you how well concealed you are, and you can use objects to distract guards. You can also climb up various objects such as pipes, leap over rooftops, dive through windows and much more.

There’s also the new Focus mechanic, which highlights objects to interact with, and can even be used together with pickpocketing to slow down time and net three times as much cash. In keeping with the navigation, you can also use a Fingerprints system for hints on which drawers to access, though all of them can be opened regardless.

Focus Mode also has many attack applications: Use Focus on an enemy and you’ll see several weak points, with which you can string together attacks to disable enemies.

But fighting isn’t Garrett’s main calling, and taking on swathes of guards is ill-advised. You’ll need to navigate intelligently as well, since guards can hunt you down in the level’s hiding places. Different enemies and NPCs will hunt you in different ways.

With the completion of each mission, you can use the money to upgrade your equipment and even deck out your hideout with different artifacts scattered through the game.

Some of Garrett’s tools will remind you of old Thief items such as the Blackjack for knocking enemies out; the Bow and multiple speciality arrows such as rope arrows for climbing and smoke starters for distractions; and a grappling claw for climbing. No word on whether Garrett’s mechanical eye with zoom functionality will return.

Thief 4 is currently scheduled to release for PS4, PC and other next generation platforms in 2014.

Finally, the prospect of a new, more nauseating Mirror's Edge!

In perhaps the first kind of publisher enthusiasm we’re seeing towards the VR headset, EA has posted a programmer job listing for experience in C++ and VR technology. It specifically talks about working with Oculus Rift and the Frostbite Engine, seeing in games like Battlefield.

The job description is essentially looking for some one who can “Explore existing research for relevant subjects”, “investigate and implement support for Occulus [sic] Rift SDK in the Frostbite Engine” and “investigate and implement techniques for improving user experience.”

Oh, and also? You gotta move to Sweden. How’s about that for the future of game development?

Now the question is: What could EA be planning specifically for the technology? NeoGAF is already talking about ideas involving a next-generation Battlefield or Mirror’s Edge that utilize the VR headset to immerse gamers further.

Currently, the Oculus Rift headset is available for $300 on pre-order and comes with both a development kit and SDK.

Producer Kiki Wolfkill also says that innovation in Halo will continue as new platforms arrive.

The future of the Halo franchise, following the development and release of Halo 4 is certainly bright. Tasked with creating a new Halo series after series’ creator Bungie left Microsoft, 343 Industries rose to the challenge. Even if the result isn’t the best Halo of all time, it’s certainly a notch above most first person shooters.

Producer Kiki Wolfkill looks at it as a notable “first step” in building credibilability with the hardcore Halo fanbase. Based on that, we could see the next Halo go many new places. Perhaps across different genres, and with different characters.

Speaking to Polygon about taking Halo beyond the FPS genre, like Ensemble Studios’ Halo Wars did, Wolfkill responded, “How we look at it is ‘Where do we want to be in ten years? What are the stories we want to tell?’

“We have started to flesh out broad strokes of a few different arcs that are interesting. There could be opportunities where exploring a different game genre makes sense or exploring a different linear format makes sense.

“If the medium fits what we want to do, then we’ll definitely consider it … if there’s a great idea we get energized around.”

She also hinted at possibly exploring the story across different points of view, perhaps like Halo 3: ODST did. “I think it was an important thing for [Master Chief] to come back in Halo 4. He’s always going to be a pretty critical component of Halo and the game experiences.

“I would hope that we could also build strength and investment in other characters, for no other reason than that’s part of what makes the universe interesting.

“Master Chief’s not going away, but we need to be able to give people more connection points.”

She did also point out that, “Innovation has always been part of the Halo game pillars. That needs to continue. That will continue because there will be new platforms on the horizon and we’ll be able to do things differently.” Halo 5 on the Next Xbox? Sign us up.
