This doesn't mean that No Rest for the Wicked won't come to Xbox or Switch 2, however. The studio is simply prioritising PS5.

Developer Moon Studios has indicated that, when it comes time for its action RPG No Rest for the Wicked to leave Early Access, it might skip Xbox Series X/S as one of its release platforms. The indication comes courtesy of studio CEO and creative director behind No Rest for the Wicked, Thomas Mahler, who mentioned this on the game’s Discord channel.

“Given current market conditions, we might only release on PS5 and potentially Switch 2 for the time being – we’ll have to discuss things with MS to see what makes sense for Xbox,” Mahler had posted. When he was asked for more details on social media platform X, he went on to say that this isn’t official confirmation about whether or not the title will come to Xbox, at least for now.

“There’s nothing to officially confirm yet,” he posted. “We want to support consoles and just looking at the numbers, PS5 makes the most sense at the moment. Ultimately we’ll ship on all platforms, but likely not at the same time!”

“We believe this will give you even more confidence in our vision, because we’re free to build No Rest for the Wicked exactly how we want, without needing to ever go silent again,” said Mahler, capping off the announcement.

This would mean that, while there is a chance that Xbox might not get No Rest for the Wicked at launch, the game might eventually still come to the console. However, this also means that, when it comes to consoles, the PS5 is a big priority for the studio. The Nintendo Switch 2, considering its early success, might also end up being one of the platforms that Moon Studios ends up prioritising.

Moon Studios had confirmed back in March that it had gained its independence from Private Division shortly after Take-Two had announced its decision to sell the indie publishing company. The announcement was made in a video where the studio also showed off The Breach, which at the time was getting ready to come to No Rest for the Wicked. The announcement was made by Mahler alongside Gennadiy Korol.

“Our publisher for No Rest for the Wicked was Private Division, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive,” said Korol. “Take-Two decided to sell off Private Division, which was unexpected news for us,” continued Mahler. “After some deliberation, we saw an opportunity.”

“After months of negotiations, we reached an agreement to buy the publishing rights for No Rest for the Wicked back, so that Moon Studios could become fully independent,” Korol explained. “This legal process took time, and we couldn’t say much while it was all happening.”

As for No Rest for the Wicked, the action RPG got The Breach in an update back in April. The update brought with it a host of new content, including new narrative quests along with new scenes and two new handcrafted zones—Lowland Meadows and Marin Woods. These new zones also feature new settlements to explore like Hunter’s Vale and Marin Village.

The largest update for Moon Studios’ No Rest for the Wicked, The Breach, is now live on PC via Steam Early Access. It adds new narrative quests and 18 new scenes to expand on the campaign.

Two new handcrafted areas, Lowland Meadows and Marin Woods, have also been added, increasing the world size further.
After some time negotiating, the studio was able to secure the rights to self-publish its Early Access title No Rest for the Wicked.

Moon Studios, the studio behind Ori and the Blind Forest and its sequel, has announced that it is now completely independent. The announcement was made during the second episode of the studio’s Wicked Inside Showcase, where it also showed off The Breach for Early Access title No Rest for the Wicked. Check out the video below.

Featuring Thomas Mahler and Gennadiy Korol, the video gives us a brief overview of the history of Moon Studios, including talking about its time working under Take-Two Interactive’s indie publishing label Private Division.

Mahler excitedly caps off the announcement by saying that “it’s all done and that Moon Studios is now fully independent.”

“We believe this will give you even more confidence in our vision, because we’re free to build No Rest for the Wicked exactly how we want, without needing to ever go silent again.”

The duo then go on to talk about the new feature for No Rest for the Wicked in the form of The Breach. Korol describes The Breach as the biggest content update for No Rest for the Wicked so far.

“We heard you loud and clear,” said Korol. “You wanted more out of our campaign. You wanted more story, more zones to play in, more enemies to fight, more bosses to test your mettle against. In short, more of everything. And that is exactly what we have been focusing on.”

With the update, the story of No Rest for the Wicked will pick up right where it left off, after Ellsworth returns to Sacrament. The relationship between Ellsworth and his daughter Odessa is also explored, with Ellsworth helping Odessa escape from her imprisonment.

The Breach will feature new zones for players to explore, and the developers have said that, with this update, the size of the game’s world is essentially being doubled. Among the zones are the Lowland Meadows, which will also feature new enemies.

The update will also brings with it new weapons in the form of Gauntlets and Wands. The Gauntlet even brings with it a host of pro-wrestling moves, like a suplex and a dropkick, along with its more fisticuffs-based moveset.

No Rest for the Wicked is available as an Early Access title on PC. Once it exits Early Access, the game is also slated for release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. In the meantime, check out our review of the game from back when it first came out.
Moon Studios is currently working on The Breach and other "Content and Feature updates" for its early access action RPG.

Among the early access titles released this year, Moon Studios’ No Rest for the Wicked had a rough start with stuttering, inventory management, janky movement, and difficulty spikes. However, it’s improved significantly with more patches. In a Steam Community post, the development team teased what’s coming up in 2025. These include The Breach, the next major update, and subsequent “Content and Feature updates.”

“We know we’ve been quiet – a lot has been happening for us at Moon Studios this year, and we will finally be able to share all about it very soon!” There will be “better and more frequent” communication in 2025, starting with an announcement in January.

No Rest for the Wicked is exclusive to PC via Steam Early Access, with console versions in the works. You can check out our review for the launch version. While previously published by Private Division, Take-Two Interactive has taken over since selling the label last month.

Alongside improvements to combat and performance, Moon Studios’ last major update reworked the Cerim Crucible, adding new chambers, more randomization for the arenas, Echoes for customizing runs, and The Gloam, a new enemy type. Besides The Breach, the team is working on updates to farming and other features.

While some prefer more relaxing experiences, there is fun in overcoming an insurmountable challenge. Check out 15 such titles here.

We all look for different things in a video game, whether it’s an engaging story, unique mechanics, well-developed characters, or a relaxing atmosphere. Then again, some also want to test themselves, taking on the most challenging endeavors and dying repeatedly. It may seem like torture to those on the outside looking in, but overcoming these is the real reward. The question is: Which titles from 2024 provided that feeling of unrelenting difficulty? As it turns out, quite a few. Check out 15 brutally difficult games from this year.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

GSC Game World’s sequel isn’t a particularly challenging survival experience when managing hunger and radiation. However, patience and endurance are key, whether deducing and defusing anomalies, surviving encounters with Mutants or managing your inventory and dealing with the encumbrance. Doing all this without any fast travel is just the cherry on top. The lethality of firearms also goes both ways, ensuring each gunfight could be fatal with proper preparation.

The company will continue to support Moon Studios' No Rest for the Wicked, which is available for PC in Steam Early Access.

Private Division, Take-Two Interactive’s label primarily known for publishing indie titles, has been sold. As announced during the company’s second-quarter earnings report for fiscal year 2025, an unknown party has acquired the label for an unknown amount.

Speaking to Variety, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the sale was made so it could “focus our resources on growing our core businesses for the long term.” The deal includes the label’s entire catalogue, including 2025 titles like Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game and Game Freak’s Project Bloom. There’s only one exception: Moon Studios’ No Rest for the Wicked, currently in early access for PC.

“We’re grateful for the contributions that the Private Division team made to Take Two, and we’re confident that they’ll continue to achieve success,” said Zelnick.

There have been changes afoot at the label for some time, starting with alleged layoffs for the “vast majority” of staff back in May. Around the same time, OlliOlli and Rollerdrome developer Roll7 had been shuttered alongside Kerbal Space Program 2 developer Intercept Games. It also cancelled its agreement with Bloober Team for Project C (likely Cronos: The New Dawn), and rumors circulated in June about Take-Two either shutting down or selling off the label.

Players can now access the dungeon sooner, obtain buffs called Echoes during each run and Exalt their weapons for more power.

Moon Studios’ No Rest for the Wicked has received its first major content update after entering early access, focusing on the Cerim Crucible. The post-game dungeon now has a new art theme, a new vendor and Echoes for a more rogue-like experience.

Echoes provide random buffs throughout each run. Defeated enemies drop Traces, which allow for more Echoes to activate. As the vendor, they’re called The Seneschal. While their true identity is unknown, they can exchange Gloamseeds found in the Crucible for Fallen Embers and the ability to Exalt weapons (boosting weapon stats and Enchantments).

The new faction is The Gloam, who sport glowing fungi on their bodies and fight differently from existing foes. They’ll appear in the overworld with future updates, so stay tuned.

Other noteworthy features include earlier access to the Crucible – it can be activated upon first reaching Sacrament. Regions like the Black Trench and Nameless Pass have been extended with new features and secrets. There are also new combat additions, including shattering frozen enemies, exploding those hit by fireballs and more. Moon Studios is also working on adding more status to the Crucible for additional challenges and bosses.

No Rest for the Wicked is available for PC via Steam Early Access (check out our review). It’s also coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Co-op enjoyers have no shortage of promising games to look forward to.

There’s an undeniable appeal to games that are designed around co-op gameplay. Playing any game with other players inherently makes things more interesting more often than not, and that, of course, is doubly true for games that are, you know, actually good. Looking ahead, there’s a long list of promising titles that are due out in the future that are making some lofty promises in those areas. Here, then, we’re going to talk about several upcoming co-op games that have caught our eye.

ONCE HUMAN

Due out sometime later this year, fans of the survival genre have had their eyes on Once Human for a while. Its post-apocalyptic setting is looking promising, especially with the variety of truly horrific monstrosities that players will be contending with, while everything that we’ve seen of its customization and progression mechanics, base building, and survival systems (which include a Sanity system) has looked quite enticing as well.

THE FIRST DESCENDANT

Nexon’s third-person shooter The First Descendant has been on quite a few radars for a couple of years now. Part-Warframe, part-Destiny, the looter shooter is promising fast combat, bombastic boss fights, and a variety of different weapons and playable characters, with the latter all coming with their own unique play styles. After a couple of beta tests over the last year, The First Descendant is due out this Summer.

WARHAMMER 40,000: SPACE MARINE 2

Space Marine 2 is looking like an enticing game even if you intend to play through it solo, but true to its Gears of War-inspired lineage, co-op is going to be a huge part of the experience. The entire campaign can be played by three players together, and that’s quite an exciting prospect, especially given the bombastic, high-octane, gory action that the game is looking like it’s going to deliver.

PANICORE

A co-op survival horror game? Sign us the hell up. Panicor will see a group of five players – playing as daredevil explorers – finding themselves trapped in abandoned, urban buildings, and with a terrifying monster chasing you every stop of the way, your goal is to hide, outwit your nightmarish foe, and find a way out. Not only will players have to work together to solve elaborate puzzles and effectively explore their environments, they’ll also be constantly contending with a pursuer enemy that can literally hear every single step you take.

DESTINY 2: THE FINAL SHAPE

Destiny 2 has had as many ups as it has had downs, but where its upcoming expansion, The Final Shape, most of what Bungie has shown off so far gives us reason to be optimistic (not that there haven’t been controversial reveals- but then again, with Destiny, there are always going to be controversial reveals). On top of its new story content, the expansion is promising a new enemy race, another new subclass, new Light-based supers, significant changes to the Power level system, the return of exotic items, and much more. It’s looking increasingly likely that The Final Shape will be Destiny 2’s last major expansion (especially with recent reports claiming that Destiny 3 is in the works), so here’s hoping the long-running looter shooter signs off on a high note.

JOHN CARPENTER’S TOXIC COMMANDO

Space Marine 2 isn’t the only gleefully gory co-op game Saber Interactive is working on. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is due out sometime this year, and it’s looking like an absolute riot so far. With the promise of over-the-top gore and humour, thrilling co-op action against massive hordes of undead enemies, and more, this first-person shooter has certainly ensured that many are going to be keeping their eye on it.

LITTLE NIGHTMARES 3

Even though Little Nightmares games have always made companion characters a core part of the experience, co-op has never been a part of the equation. That’s changed with the upcoming Little Nightmares 3, and we’re more than a little excited about that. The series’ brand of gameplay is one that would lend itself remarkably well to co-op gameplay, especially given the intense horror set-pieces that Little Nightmares games love so dearly. The fact that co-op in Little Nightmares 3 is going to be online only is disappointing, but hopefully Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco will add a couch co-op option down the line.

OUTWARD 2

Nine Dots’ 2019 action RPG Outward may not have set the world on fire, but its sequel is making some interesting promises. In addition to bringing back the first game’s gruelingly unforgiving approach to difficulty, Outward 2 is also set to boast much higher production values, according to its developer, which should hopefully make its world a much more engaging one. Though the action RPG can certainly be played solo, co-op – whether local or online, splitscreen or otherwise – is exactly the sort of thing that can make its massively challenging obstacles that much more interesting.

NO REST FOR THE WICKED

Given how good the Ori games were, it’s no surprise that Moon Studios’ No Rest for the Wicked has as many eyes on it as it does, and thus far, it’s looking like the action RPG is set to be another impressive notch on the developer’s belt. Though its recent early access release wasn’t without its issues, the core gameplay experience is undoubtedly a strong one. So far, the game is only playable solo, but its first major update will be adding four-player co-op, which we’re looking forward to keenly.

MECHWARRIOR 5: CLANS

With its promise of a story-driven experience, MechWarrior 5: Clans has got plenty of fans’ attention who may have been let down by some of the series’ more recent outings, but based on what we know of the game so far, it’s looking like its inclusion of five-player co-op may be just as big of a selling point. There’s plenty of enjoyment to get out of MechWarrior’s brand of action regardless, but the addition of four players stomping about in mechs by your side is likely to make things a little bit more interesting.

MONSTER HUNTER WILDS

Obviously, we need to have the next Monster Hunter game on a list about the most promising upcoming co-op games. There’s nothing quite like setting out on hunts with a squad of friends and taking on the series’ staggering variety of incredibly designed monsters in combat. Even if Monster Hunter Wilds was just a straightforward iteration of that formula, there’d be every reason to look forward to it, but with Capcom promising some significant evolutions for the series’ tried-and-tested formula, our excitement is sky-high.

TEMTEM SWARM

After attempting to emulate Pokemon with Temtem, Crema is now looking to take a page out of Vampire Survivors’ book with the upcoming spinoff Temtem Swarm. Built around three-player co-op, Temtem Swarm will see players engaging in frenetic top-down action and playing as cute little Temtem gunning down hordes of their own kind. It’s certainly a bizarre premise, and the game’s announcement has been met with a fair bit of backlash by the Temtem community, but we’re certainly keeping our eyes on this one.

TERMINATOR: SURVIVORS

A Terminator survival game set after Judgment Day is an elevator pitch that’s bound to grab your attention. Terminator: Survivors will see players exploring an open world setting, scavenging resources to bring back to an ever-expanding base. The hook, of course, that you’ll have to do all of this with the terrifying threat of Skynet and its machines constantly looming over you. Due out this October and playable both solo and co-op, Terminator: Survivors is definitely one we can’t wait to get our hands on.

BORDERLANDS 4

We know next to nothing about Borderlands 4 so far. Hell, it hasn’t even been officially unveiled yet. But 2K and Gearbox Entertainment have confirmed that the co-op looter shooter is in development, which, given the series’ pedigree, is enough to turn more than a few heads. How Borderlands 4 will evolve and build on the series’ formula remains to be seen, but this is a franchise that has been remarkably consistent over the years, so it’s definitely got our attention.

CONTRABAND

Avalanche Studios has built its fair share of compelling open world experiences in the past, so it’s no surprise that Contraband – a co-op open world game being made exclusively for Xbox Series X/S and PC with the full backing of Microsoft – has piqued so many people’s curiosity. Other than a logo reveal disguised as an announcement trailer, we’ve seen nothing of the game so far, but the prospect of a heist-based co-op open world sandbox is an exciting one, so hopefully, we’ll be seeing more of Contraband in the not-too-distant future.

The Plague Ring and Snake Ring have seen some balance changes, while improved rim light rendering in shadows should help with visibility.

The hotfixes for Moon Studios’ No Rest for the Wicked continue to roll following its launch into Steam Early Access. The sixth hotfix addresses complaints of the game feeling too dark with improvements to rim light rendering in shadows. It improves visibility in darker areas and makes the characters “feel more integrated into the environments.”

Gems should have increased drop rates while a new Torch offhand item is available at Whittacker’s, further helping visibility in dark areas. Several balance changes have been made to the Prologue ship, replacing Risen enemies with “special instances” to ensure the global changes don’t affect them. Save for the Risen Great Axe Raider, their health is also reduced by 40 percent.

For those suffering in the Cerim Crucible, the deadliest room has seen its enemies nerfed, while those in weaker rooms should be more challenging. The Plague Ring and Snake Ring have also been rebalanced – check out their changes below.

Moon Studios' Souls-like action RPG is available for PC via Steam Early Access and has received some praise despite many issues.

Despite its rough early access launch last week, Moon Studios has worked extensively to improve No Rest for the Wicked. The Souls-like action RPG has garnered some positive impressions, though – check them out in the trailer below.

As a mix of Dark Souls, Diablo and some survival-lite, No Rest for the Wicked sees players running around on Isola Sacra to wipe out the Pestilence. Between dealing with the machinations of Madrigal Seline and helping the town of Sacrament survive (and thrive by building projects), it’s a tough life for a Cerim. On the bright side, it does look gorgeous.

You can read our mixed impressions of No Rest for the Wicked here. It’s received multiple hotfixes since entering early access for PC – check out the latest here – but this is only the start. Moon Studios plans to add multiplayer support and farming in future updates alongside new story content, areas, enemies, bosses and more.
