Since Fallout 4’s launch there have been plenty of people who are are absolutely in love with the game. On the other hand, there have been a number of people who have been a bit annoyed, especially at the load times. Most annoying of all is that those load times don’t seem to be all that consistent. Bethesda has now released a new patch that is supposed to help the game have better performance in a number of ways on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. The problem for some is going to be the fact that the way the company apparently pulled this off is by downgrading the game’s graphics a bit.

Of course, the graphics and performance are just a couple of the things that got fixed with this new patch. The full release notes can be found here but certainly the biggest issue is going to likely be the way the company fixed some of it’s problems. While Fallout 4’s graphics are not bad by any stretch of the imagination but they also aren’t the best in the business. If they’re getting a downgrade, there are likely going to be people who aren’t too happy they’ve intentionally been made worse.

One scene in particular that has been pointed to was the removal of shadows from the Corvega Assembly Plant area in the game, which was notorious for its bad performance on PS4 and Xbox One. The frame rate at that location was reportedly running as low as 20 fps which results in stuttering experience for the player. Fallout 4 launched on the PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 10, 2015. Check out the photos showing the graphics downgrade below.

Thanks, Neogaf users Hanmik and Ricerocket: 1,2.

Some people won't be happy.

Fallout 4 just got patch number 1.02 and there are apparently a number of fixes that have come along with the update. Performance enhancements for the PS4 version especially are the ones that have been most talked about but one that is likely going to be drawing quite a bit of ire is the one that gets rid of the infinite cap glitch. According to numerous reports from Reddit, Neogaf and other websites, the ability to buy, sell and trade to the point where you can get as many caps as you want has been removed on every platform.

The full patch notes have been released on the Bethesda forums but it’s likely that people are going to be more annoyed that this glitch is gone. Considering that some of the biggest perks in the game, including the ability to buy a house in Diamond City cost quite a bit of money, there were plenty of players that were quite happy they could get more caps in the blink of an eye. On the other hand, this glitch removal makes it more fair for everybody.

For those who aren’t that interested in the caps glitch being removed, you can check out the most important parts of the patch notes below:

New Features

Number pad keys can now be used for remapping (PC)

Remapping Activate now works on Quick Container (PC

Fixes

General memory and stability improvements

Performance improvements inside the Corvega Assembly Plant

Optimisations to skinned decal rendering

Fixed issue with player becoming stuck in terminals

Fixed issue where equipped weapons become locked after completing Reunions

Fixed issue with “When Freedom Calls” where the quest would not complete

During “Confidence Man” fixed issue where player’s health would continuously regenerate

Fixed crash related to jumping into water and reloading saved games

Fixed issue where Launcher would not save God Rays Quality setting properly (PC)

Patch is about 505 MB on PS4.

Bethesda Softworks confirmed that Fallout 4 would be receiving patch 1.02, which went live last night for PC, for consoles this week. However, it seems that the patch is already live for PS4.

As noted by NeoGAF, the update is roughly 505 MB and features a number of fixes like general memory and stability improvements, fixing an issue which caused players to get stuck in terminals, fixing an issue during “When Freedom Calls” where the quest would not complete and much more. The patch notes are actually fairly similar to the Steam notes so you can check them all out here.

Expect the Xbox One version of the patch to go live very soon. Until then, Bethesda will continue chugging away on updates for Fallout 4 so let them know if you encounter any other glitches.

What are your thoughts on the new update? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more updates.

A new update is out for Star Wars: Battlefront which releases next week for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It’s currently available on consoles and it updates your game to version 1.01. Note that there may be another patch released on the day of the actual launch.

The update adds a healthy amount of fixes and changes including tweaked hero card spawn times, fixes for the partner system, improvements for traffic performance and text in all languages, bug fixes for Missions and much more. There are also the usual crash and stability fixes that are expected.

Star Wars: Battlefront is out on November 17th in North America and November 20th in Europe. Publisher Electronic Arts pegs it to sell 13 million units by the end of the fiscal year, which is a pretty lofty goal. Do you think it will hit that? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more details on the game in the coming week.

Play the bad sport for too long and you could wind up banned.

343 Industries’ next major patch for Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be launching this week. According to Halo Waypoint, the patch has passed Microsoft certification and should be arriving soon. This particular patch is important because it punishes players for quitting, idling or betraying their teammates during games.

If you quit a match, for instance, you’ll receive a ranking deduction. Your Xbox One Reputation will also incur a penalty. If you continue to quit or betray your teammates for a particular period of time, you’ll find yourself temporarily banned from matchmaking. Longer bans will be issued if you continue to misbehave following the first ban.

Other fixes in the patch include matchmaking voting randomizing a winner in case of ties; improvements to ranking calculations; and a fix for an issue where winning a match could result in your ranking going down. You can check out the full patch notes here and let us know what you think of the fixes in the comments.

Hi-Rez Studios’ Tribes: Ascend, arguably its first breakout free to play game which would fuel its further involvement in the genre, has begun to receive support again. The developer revealed a new patch for the game, which would be its first in +2 years, and some scant notes were released on the same.

You can check out the notes on Google Docs as per creative director Sean McBride but keep in mind that these are only a small part of the overall patch details to come. As for the confirmed changes, they’re nothing less than sweeping – a new map will be added and the game’s nine classes will be narrowed down to three – Light, Medium and Heavy, each with nine loadouts that are free to all. Base class loadouts, including default items, will be free and a number of tweaks are coming for weapons.

Expect the patch to release on public test servers on September 14th, though Hi-Rez states that, “We know this will leave some weapons statistically non-viable, or lead to some ‘broken’ builds. These issues will be addressed in a future PTS balance patch. A main focus of this test is to identify the key balance issues created by this transition.”

Thoughts on all the changes? Let us know in the comments.

After leaking yesterday and being quickly retracted, the PC patch for Batman: Arkham Knight is now officially available.

The patch brings a range of graphical improvements including optimizations for both VRAM usage and system memory; fixes for mechanical HDDs and low resolution textures; more in-depth game settings; and better performance across all GPUs which requires the latest drivers. You can head over to Steam right now to check out the official patch notes.

It should be noted that Rocksteady is still working on SLI and Crossfire support along with adding support for the latest DLC and Season Pass updates. There will also be continuous improvements for a specific Windows 8 issue and specific issues on Windows 10 PCs running AMD GPUs.

A re-release date for Batman: Arkham Knight on PC hasn’t been announced yet so stay tuned for more information on the same. In the meantime, let us know how your performance in Arkham Knight fares with the latest patch.

Patch 2.3.0 for Blizzard’s Diablo 3 is available today on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The patch was in the Public Test Realm until recently and now seems to have made its way to all platforms.

The new patch adds quite a bit of content to the game, including a new zone called Sescheron, some balances for classes, different progression routes and reward structures – aptly named Seasons Journey for the upcoming Season 4 – and Kanai’s Cube, a special artifact which allows players to re-roll legendaries or extract perks and add them to their skill set.

If you’re curious about all the new features and changes, you can hit up Blizzard’s video below. Season 4 is currently only limited to PC players and is set to begin on August 28th.

What are your thoughts on patch 2.3.0? Will it inspire you to get back into Diablo 3? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.

After what feels like an interminable wait, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt patch 1.08 has officially gone live for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The amount of free space on your hard drive you will need in order to download the patch depends on whether or not you have installed any of the other patches for the game.

If you have not installed any other data or content before this particular patch, it’s a pretty decent 7GB of data. If you have installed other patches and content the download will be a relatively manageable 2.8GB. No matter how much free space you need to download the patch, you should probably try and find the room. This brings a number of fixes including the ability to actually collect some achievements that weren’t being attributed to players up until now. As we pointed out earlier this month, the one drawback is that patch 1.08 won’t be able to go back and give people who already earned those achievements their badges. Moving forward though, the achievements will work properly.

CD Projekt RED, the developers of The Witcher 3 also say this patch should actually fix some problems that might have been created by patch 1.07. The installation of this patch will also pave the way for the New Game Plus DLC. While the DLC isn’t quite ready for prime time, it is supposed to be coming soon and you’ll certainly want to make sure your PC or console is ready for the new Witcher 3: Wild Hunt content when it does arrive.

Marcin Momot does say the development team is looking into it for a future patch.

We know that The Witcher 3 is getting patch 1.08 fairly soon. We also know that this patch is geared towards fixing quite a bit of the things that have made playing the game frustrating to some, despite the fact that on its whole it is one of if not the best game released so far this year. All of that is the good news. The bad news is that CD Projeckt RED has confirmed that the patch will not be able to retroactively fix any achievements players might have earned but not received.

On the flipside, there are going to be some achievement issues fixed, which means that those that have tried to clear certain achievements but haven’t actually cleared them such as finding all Gwent cards will now actually be able to gain achievements. Marcin Momot took to Twitter to deliver the bad news but did add that the development team is looking into a fix. What he did say is that patch 1.08 will not be able to award achievements retroactively.

Momot added that they are looking into the situation, which could mean that a later patch might be able to do what this one can’t. He also said he couldn’t make any promises on whether the team would ever really be able to add retroactivity when it came to patches. Of course, before we can start looking at and hoping that a future patch will bring retroactivity to the achievements, we need to get the upcoming 1.08 first. CD Projekt RED still isn’t shedding light on just when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will get this patch though it’s expected sooner rather than later.
