Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panitch said that the adaptation will stay "very true" to Bloodborne.

While a remake of PS4 classic Bloodborne might not happen any time soon, the franchise isn’t completely dead just yet. According to Variety, an R-rated animated adaptation of Bloodborne is being produced by Sony Pictures. Announced during CinemaCon, the president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, Sanford Panitch, has said that the Bloodborne movie will be “very true” to the spirit of the game it is adapting.

The movie is being co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and Seán McLoughlin—better known by his YouTube and Twitch persona JackSepticEye. Aside from the announcement itself, no other details about the Bloodborne animated project have been revealed so far.

The fact that Bloodborne’s story is—true to FromSoftware fashion—told quite vaguely opens the door for a multitude of approaches in an adaptation. The movie will likely still take place in and around the game’s primary setting of Yharnam, a gothic-styled city plagued by its citizens turning into beasts, along with a few spookier things happening in the background. We also expect to see the game’s most iconic weapons making it into the adaptation, like the Saw Cleaver, the Threaded Cane, the Kirkhammer, and Ludwig’s Holy Blade, among others. Whether the adaptation will also take into account story elements added by Bloodborne’s The Old Hunters DLC remains to be seen.

Sony has announced several adaptations of its various franchises in recent years. Along with HBO’s The Last of Us series, which wrapped up its second season in May last year, the company has also announced that it is working on a new Helldivers movie. More details have been revealed since last year, including the fact that it will star Jason Momoa and that it is aiming for a theatrical release on November 10th, 2027. The production also involves Hutch Parker, Asad Qizilbash, and Justin Lin.

The company is also working on an adaptation of the Horizon franchise. While earlier reports had indicated that it might be cancelled, the company revealed back in January 2025 that it had entered early production at PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures. Originally slated to be a movie, Qizilbash revealed a year ago that the project had been transformed into a TV series.

Of course, Sony isn’t the only major gaming company that has been dipping its toes into movie adaptations. A24 is working with director Alex Garland and George R.R. Martin as producers to create a live-action adaptation of FromSoftware’s open-world RPG Elden Ring. Recently, a couple of videos made their way onto TikTok, giving us a look at the set of a ruined Church of Marika.

Nintendo’s movie adaptations have also been continuing, with the company having recently released The Super Mario Galaxy Movie alongside Illumination. Earlier this month, the film managed to break box office records, having made $372.5 million. While not as big of an opening as its predecessor—The Super Mario Bros. Movie—the film still has the potential to beat its overall opening week box office performance by making more than $500 million.

Zach Cregger, known for horror movies like Barbarian, had noted that he would be telling an original story that is faithful to the lore.

While February’s report that the production team behind the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Resident Evil had basically been given carte blanche to tell the story they wanted may have caused some to worry, a new report has indicated that this may have been a wise decision. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, a test screening for Zach Cregger’s take on Resident Evil went quite well.

“There was a test screening for Resident Evil. I hear it’s great,” he wrote on social media platform X. While this may come as welcome news for some, others have taken to social media to discuss how this could also potentially mean that, while it’s a good movie on its own, it might not be a faithful adaptation. However, just about everyone involved with the project has been tight-lipped about it, so no real details about its characters or plot have been revealed, at least for now.

Cregger had spoken in the past about how his Resident Evil movie would remain faithful to the core tenets of the franchise while still telling an original story. He also wants to make sure that the movie ends up being a love letter to the storied gaming franchise.

“Let me say this: this is not breaking the rules of the games,” Cregger said. “I am the biggest worshiper of the games, so I’m telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games. It is obedient to the lore of the games, it’s just a different story. I’m not going to tell Leon’s story, because Leon’s story is told in the games. [Fans] already have that.”

He acknowledged that there might be some Resident Evil fans who want to see a faithful adaptation of one of the games’ stories. To them, however, he said, “They can play the game.” This might indicate that we might not get to see iconic characters like Leon S. Kennedy or Jill Valentine grace the big screen in the film, unfortunately.

As for the freedom Cregger has with the movie’s plot, the CEO of Resident Evil film rights holder Constantin Film, Oliver Berben, had spoken about it back in February.

“With Resident Evil, we have had an incredible journey with one of the most successful international IPs of more than a billion dollars in box office for many years and now we are creating something new, not just a new story idea, but to allow a new generation to take the IP into their own hands and form something different,” said Berben. To achieve this, Cregger has been given “the carte blanche to do whatever he wanted to do with that IP,” he explained.

The Resident Evil movie is being produced by PlayStation Productions alongside Constantin Film. The story is being co-written by Shay Hatten of John Wick: Chapter 4 and Army of the Dead fame, along with Zach Cregger, known for Barbarian, who is also the film’s director. Rather than being a new entry in the long-running Resident Evil movie franchise, however, Cregger’s film will be a reboot.

CEO of Constantin Film, Oliver Berben, spoke about being able to tell new stories with long-established IPs like Resident Evil.

Director of upcoming Resident Evil movie reboot Zach Cregger had previously confirmed that the story will be an entirely new one. In an interview with Deadline, CEO of Resident Evil film rights holder Constantin Film, Oliver Berben, has said that the director has been given complete freedom to make something different.

While he didn’t go into too many details, Berben noted that the previous success of the Resident Evil franchise has opened up the doors to allow a new generation to bring their own voice to the IP, even beyond it simply being a brand new story.

“With Resident Evil, we have had an incredible journey with one of the most successful international IPs of more than a billion dollars in box office for many years and now we are creating something new, not just a new story idea, but to allow a new generation to take the IP into their own hands and form something different,” said Berben. He went on to note that, to achieve this, Cregger has been given “the carte blanche to do whatever he wanted to do with that IP.”

How far this carte blanche will affect the story of the movie is currently unknown. However, back in August 2025, Cregger had said that the new story being told will remain faithful to the rules of the Resident Evil universe. Being a self-professed fan of the games, he went on to refer to the story as a “love letter to the games” that “follows the rules of the games.”

He also acknowledged Resident Evil fans that may have wanted a story closer to what we see in the games by noting that, “They can play the game.”

It is worth noting that Cregger has quite a bit of experience with the horror genre, having previously worked on Barbarian and Weapons as director and writer. Both films take place in urban settings, and focus on ever-increasing tension that gets released gradually over the course of the story.

Cregger had previously also spoken about the Resident Evil games, and how the movie will draw on them for inspiration. He brings up high-tension moments like being low and health while walking down a dark hallway, being afraid of something around the corner that might kill you.

“There’s a moment that comes in almost every Resident Evil game where you find yourself in a dark passageway, your health is almost zero and there’s no way around,” he said. “You have to go through but you know there’s something awful for you in the darkness.”

“That is a thrill that the Resident Evil games have perfected. My movie will be built in the spirit of those games and follows one central protagonist from point A to point B, as they descend deeper into hell.”

The Resident Evil movie is slated to hit theatres on September 18th. Fans of the franchise have plenty to look forward to before that, however, since February 27th will see the release of Resident Evil Requiem on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Arrowhead's co-op shooter is getting its own film and has managed to snag Jason Momoa of Aquaman fame in an unannounced role.

Any game that reportedly sells nearly 20 million units over its lifetime is bound to catch the attention of the entertainment industry at large. Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 is the latest game to hop on the bandwagon, with a live-action adaptation coming to the silver screen.

The Helldivers movie is set to premiere on November 10, 2027, and will have Jason Momoa starring in a currently undisclosed role per Deadline. While what that role might entail is anyone’s guess, it’s safe to assume that he’s going to be a part of Super Earth’s army and probably tearing through Automatons, Cyborgs, and Terminids alike.

The announcement could not have come at a better time for Helldivers 2 fans, as it is hot on the heels of the new Cyberstan update which brings new meaty gameplay to the co-op shooter. You can likely expect references to the game’s expansive lore to feature in the film’s runtime in some capacity, and perhaps even some interesting twists on previously established lore.

While the film is still a long time away, we’re optimistic that Hutch Parker (Logan, X-Men: Days of Future Past), PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash, and Perfect Storm’s Justin Lin (of Fast and Furious fame) being producers is a sign of good things to come.

Interestingly, PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash had previously announced that the adaptation would be a TV show instead.

While PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash had previously spoken about the adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn being changed from a movie to a TV show, it looks like the company has gone back on this decision. As caught by The Game Post, Qizilbash mentioned the Horizon adaptation as part of a sworn declaration that was filed as part of Sony’s lawsuit against Tencent for Light of Motiram.

In his statement, Qizilbash noted that a working script has already been prepared, and that the production crew is currently looking for a director to head the project up. Along with this, he also confirmed that Sony wants the filming for the project to begin in 2026, and is eyeing a 2027 release.

“We are in development for a film based on Horizon in partnership with Columbia Pictures,” said Qizilbash. “We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027. The live-action film follows the recent collaborations between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions on the 2022 film Uncharted and the 2023 film Gran Turismo.”

Qizilbash’s statement came as part of Sony establishing the importance of the Horizon IP, and especially its protagonist Aloy, as an important part of the PlayStation brand. In his statement, Qizilbash also referred to Aloy as a “key icon in the anticipated film,” and also called her important “to the flywheel of franchise building.”

It is worth noting that Qizilbash had said back in April that the Horizon adaptation was being turned into a TV show. In an interview, he spoke about wanting to ensure that the adaptation was done right, which in turn would bring in a greater audience to the project.

“I think what people have seen in Hollywood is that video game adaptations, if done right, can actually be very popular, and they scale really well,” said Qizilbash. “That’s been a big sea change that I’ve seen in the last five, six years, since we’ve really started to come and deliver some great content.” This, he noted, tied into his desire to turn the project into a TV show rather than a movie because “it just wasn’t creatively going how we wanted to.”

Sony had first announced that work on the Horizon adaptation had started back in January during CES 2025. At the time, few details had been confirmed about the project, however, aside from the fact that it would involve a collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures. For context, Columbia Pictures had previously worked with Sony on the Uncharted movie adaptation as well.

In the meantime, PlayStation Productions is also working on a reboot of the Resident Evil movie franchise alongside rights-owner Constantin Film. The project is being co-written by Shay Hatten of Army of the Dead and John Wick: Chapter 4 fame, and Zach Cregger of Barbarian fame. Cregger is also working as the director on the project, with production duties up for grabs in a bidding war between big companies like Netflix and Warner Bros.

Fans of the Resident Evil franchise that might want to see a faithful adaptation of the story "can play the game," said the director.

Zach Cregger, known for his work as director on Barbarian and, more recently, Weapons, has revealed that, in his stint as director for a new Resident Evil movie, he will not be making use of pre-established characters from the game series. Speaking to Inverse, Cregger still maintained that the movie will respect Capcom’s horror game franchise. However, people that might be hoping to see Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield in action will be disappointed.

Rather, Cregger is more interested in telling a fresh story within the world of Resident Evil. He said that the movie will act as a love letter to the game franchise, and will follow the same rules for its fiction as the games do.

[Fans] already have that.” Following up on fans that might want to see a more faithful adaptation of Resident Evil games, Cregger said that “They can play the game.”

Rumours surrounding the movie have indicated that its story will revolve around a courier and their attempt at delivering a package to a remote hospital. However, with the outbreak of the zombie virus, they invariably will end up in a battle for survival against “hordes of mutated creatures”.

Back in April, Cregger had also spoken about the Resident Evil games, and how he is taking inspiration from them to execute the vision for his movie.

The Resident Evil movie series getting rebooted was announced all the way back in January. The production on the film will be handled by Resident Evil screen rights owner Constantin Film along with PlayStation Production. The movie will be co-written by Cregger along with Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 4, Army of the Dead).

When it comes to movies, Resident Evil’s live action outings have always been an entirely separate franchise from the games, with their continuities being highly divergent despite the movies borrowing elements from the games like the existence of the Umbrella Corporation. The first of these movies, staring Mila Jovovich, came out all the way back in 2002. Despite the fact that the movies are barely connected to the game franchise, the movies have made $1.2 billion worldwide.

The Cregger-directed Resident Evil movie is slated to hit theatres on September 18, 2026. Rumours have indicated that it will feature Austin Abrams in one of its leading roles.

The new Resident Evil movie will be co-written by Shay Hatten of John Wick: Chapter 4 fame and Zach Cregger of Barbarian fame.

While PlayStation Productions is gearing up for the release of the Until Dawn movie, it looks like the company is already gearing up for its next major game-to-movie adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, PlayStation Productions is set to work on rebooting the Resident Evil movie franchise, this time around keeping things more closely aligned with the games.

PlayStation Productions will work with Resident Evil screen rights-owner Constantin Film to work on a new movie, which will be co-written by Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 4, Army of the Dead). Joining Hatten will be Zach Cregger (Barbarian) as a co-writer and director on the project. As for the studio handling production of the movie, quite a few names have entered a bidding war, including Warner Bros. and Netflix.

So far, the live action Resident Evil movies have had their own continuity, telling stories entirely divorced from the games from which they take their name. These movies have starred Milla Jovovich, and the first movie came out all the way back in 2002. Despite not really being related to the games aside from featuring zombies and the Umbrella Corporation, the Jovovich Resident Evil movies have been quite successful, making $1.2 billion worldwide.

In the mean time, PlayStation Productions’ upcoming movie Until Dawn recently got a trailer that gave us the low-down on what we can expect from the horror flick. While the movie will feature classic horror tropes like teenagers hanging out at a creepy cabin in the woods, things quickly start getting weird once, after all of the teenagers are killed, time rewinds and the protagonists all wake up while still retaining the memories of their horrific deaths.

Interestingly, the Until Dawn movie will not be an adaptation of the game. Instead, the game wants to tell its own story featuring a group of teenagers as its protagonist. However, there does seem to be some sort of meta-narrative at play considering the concept of time reversing while the characters all remember what happened mimics the idea of save files in any video game.

Until Dawn is directed by David F. Sandberg and written by Blaur Butler and Gary Dauberman. The movie stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Maima Mitchell, and Peter Stormare. The movie will be hitting theatres on April 25.

With the movie on its way, there are also rumours that a sequel to Until Dawn is in the works at Horizon Call of the Mountain developer Firesprite.

The trailer for the upcoming adaptation gives us a look at its protagonists before quickly and gruesomely killing them off.

Shortly after the release of a 1-minute-long first-look trailer for the upcoming movie Until Dawn movie, a longer trailer has now been released. The trailer, which you can check out below, clocks in at around 2 minutes and 25 seconds.

As the first-look trailer indicated, the Until Dawn movie won’t be a direct adaptation of the game of the same name. Rather, it will occur in the same universe and feature an entirely new cast of characters with its own original story. The movie also seems to offer a unique twist on the original game’s “anyone can die” feature by having its characters come back to life throughout its story.

While it gives us a quick look at the movie’s setup and some of its characters, all the protagonists are seemingly killed off within seconds. Time seems to reverse, however, as they return to life but still somehow remember the events that led to their deaths.

The story of the Until Dawn movie revolves around the mysterious disappearance of Melanie. This prompts her sister, Clover, to head into a remote valley where Melanie disappeared with her friends to search for answers. In their time at the valley, the group discovers that it is being methodically stalked by a masked killer, and ultimately, the group is murdered one by one.

Curiously, however, the group awakens at a time before their deaths while still retaining the memories. Upon learning that they have a limited number of deaths left, the group starts looking for a way to escape these circumstances.

Directed by David F. Sandberg and written by Blair Butler and Gary Dauberman, the Until Dawn movie stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Maia Mitchell and Peter Stormare.

The Until Dawn movie is slated for a theatrical release on April 25. In the meantime, a rumoured sequel to the original game is seemingly in the works.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, the horror movie is out on April 25 and tells a new story set in the Until Dawn universe.

We’ve been hearing about the Until Dawn movie for a while now, and a few months ahead of its April 25 release, Sony has released a “first look” teaser that reveals new details. It also showcases several glimpses of what it will have in store. Check it out below.

Interestingly, the Until Dawn movie isn’t adapting the game itself. Though set in the same universe, it will tell a new story focused on a new cast. It will also take on a unique structure, with characters returning to life every time they die to face a new threat and, according to director David F. Sandberg, a new horror genre.

Sadly for fans of the game, it doesn’t look like there will be a lot of overlap where the film’s content is concerned, but if nothing else, Peter Stormare will reprise his role of Dr. Hill from the game.

Last year, leaks claimed that a sequel to Until Dawn was in development at Firesprite. Read more on that through here.

Sony is seemingly capitalizing on the blockbuster success of Helldivers 2, though its release window is currently unknown.

If it wasn’t enough that an anime for Ghost of Tsushima is in the works, Sony also announced at CES 2025 that Helldivers is getting a motion picture. According to The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, it’s produced by Sony Pictures, though further details – like the plot and casting – have yet to be revealed.

As out of left field as the announcement may initially seem, it makes perfect sense given the success of Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2. Launched in February 2024, it became the fastest-selling title of all time for PlayStation, crossing 15 million players in November. It would subsequently become one of the top-selling games of 2024 on Steam.

Helldivers 2 has received numerous updates in December, the latest adding the Illuminate and a collaboration with Killzone. The latter met with backlash over its pricing, prompting Arrowhead to distribute the second half of its content for free. Stay tuned for more details on the movie in the future.
