Tri-Ace’s Resonance of Fate 4K/HD Edition, a remaster of its 2010 role-playing game, has been delayed slightly for the PS4 in Europe. Originally slated to release on October 18th alongside Japan and North America, it will now arrive on October 23rd. The PC version’s release date remains unchanged, so you can still pick that up tomorrow without any problems.

Resonance of Fate is a rather strange title that originally released for the Xbox 360 and PS3. It has a post-apocalyptic storyline set in a futuristic city called Basel that’s on the brink of collapse. Our heroes, Vashyron, Zephyr, and Leanne will have to figure out their role in the world, not to mention mastering the complex battle system with its myriad of options and customization. It’s worth noting that those who don’t want the high resolution textures for the PC version can opt out of the same. This reduces the game size to 16 GB, though it goes up to 83 GB with the textures installed. Overall, it’s not a bad option to have especially for PC players who simply want to check the game out without 4K textures.

Square Enix has announced that high res textures for the PC version of the upcoming Resonance of Fate 4K/HD, the remaster of the flawed but fan favorite RPG from the previous decade, will get high res textures as a free add-on pack. Their reasoning for this is admittedly sound—it’s to do with file sizes.

In an era when file sizes are getting obscenely massive, developer tri-Ace wanted to keep the file size of Resonance of Fate 4K/HD under control. By separating the high resolution textures, the game file size comes to a paltry 16GB. Of course, once those are installed, the file size is a far more insane 83GB.

The good news is that if you want to play the game, and don’t particularly care for the high res enhancements, then you can do so without any issues. Otherwise, I guess, it’s not like this is any different in terms of total download time than it would have been if you had had to download an 83GB file to begin with.

Tri-Ace has confirmed that Resonance of Fate will be releasing for PS4 and PC via Steam on October 18th. Though it will be priced at 3700 Yen, a Western price point has yet to be revealed.

Having released in 2010 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Resonance of Fate is a quirky RPG that centres around three gun-wielding heroes – Vashyron, Zephyr, and Leanne – as they navigate a world in ruins. Humanity has taken refuge inside Basel, a huge machine that helps regulate the environment, but also controls people. Basel is also wearing down, and it seems the end of humanity may be nigh.

Resonance of Fate earned a fair amount of attention for its complex battle system, gun customization, and so on. Along with New Game Plus mode, players can start newer playthroughs at higher difficulty levels, with 10 in total to run through.
