“One of them is in the tradition of Immortality, building on some of that tech but going in a cool direction,” said Barlow describing Project C in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. “I think, you look at the Steam tags, you can see that it’s horror, sci-fi horror, it’s a very cool premise. It might be like the chunkiest mechanic we’ve come up with within this kind of non-linear space, it’s a cool little puzzle box.”

Barlow goes on to describe Project D as being for fans of his older works, since it will be a third-person survival horror game. Barlow refers to it as what you would get if you fused the talent behind Immortality with a third-person survival horror game.

Both Project C and Project D have gotten short teaser trailers, which feature heavily distorted imagery. You can check out the teasers for both titles below. Interestingly, both games have also gotten Steam pages. Details, however, are sparse, as just about anything that would describe the titles has been heavily redacted.

First available on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass, Immortality is the story of fictional actor Marissa Marcel. She mysteriously disappeared after filming three movies which never released. Several years later, the films re-emerge, and the player must match clips from each one to eventually unravel Marcel’s fate.

In addition to movie scenes, there’s behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, providing even more clues about the people in Marcel’s life. Immortality has received strong critical acclaim since its release. It was also nominated for The Game Awards 2022, including Best Game Direction and Best Performance (for Manon Gage, who plays Marcel).

Though also in development for Android, Immortality hasn’t been made available for the platform yet. Stay tuned for more details on the same.

As “Barlow,” players essentially sift through clips of three films – The Monk (1968), Minksy (1970) and Two of Everything (1999). Though Immortality is exclusive to Xbox and PC at launch, it will release “very soon” on Apple and Android on Netflix. In a press release, producer Natalie Watson said the team is taking “some extra time on our mobile release to ensure it’s the best possible experience for Netflix members around the world.” Stay tuned for more details on other platforms in the coming months.

It’s up to an individual named “Barlow” in the present year to unravel the mystery and piece together Marcel’s fate.

As an interactive movie trilogy, Immortality focuses on three fictional films with actor Marissa Marcel. Within the game’s story, none of these movies has ever been released while Marcel herself went missing. As a result, a character named “Barlow” (no doubt referencing director Sam Barlow) must attempt to solve this mystery.

This involves examining each film, matching different characters and shots together. Whether it approaches the brilliance of Barlow’s first game, Her Story, remains to be seen. Immortality will also be coming to additional platforms in the future so stay tuned for more details on the same in the coming months.

Some things that can be expected include Frostpunk developer 11 bit Studios’ unannounced title; a new project by Klei Entertainment of Don’t Starve fame; Sam Barlow’s Immortality; and an update on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 courtesy of Saber Interactive’s Tim Willits. Bohemia Interactive will also be on hand for an interview about the recently announced Arma 4. Victoria 3 is also getting its first gameplay reveal.

If that weren’t enough, the mod project Half-Life: Alyx – Levitation is also getting some new gameplay. Of course, the PC Gaming Show isn’t the only event set for June 12th as the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase will broadcast at 10 PM PT. Stay tuned for more details on both in the coming weeks.

The story touts itself as an “interactive movie trilogy.” Ambrosio is directed by Alan Fischer in 1968 and features Marcel as Matilda; Minsky is written by John Durick in 1970 and sees Marcel being suspected of the death of an artist; and Two of Everything in 1999 is also by Durick, seeking to explore “the duality between a successful pop star and her body double.”

The kicker is that in-game, none of these movies has ever released and Marcel has gone missing. In 2022, a “Barlow” seeming becomes involved in the mystery surrounding them. Soon enough, the player will also have to unravel the mystery.

Immortality will be a timed console exclusive for Xbox Series X/S with additional platforms to be announced later. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Marcel made three movies but for some reason, none of them were ever released. By the trailer’s end, we learn that it was her “dream” to be an actress (which feels like some kind of grim foreshadowing). Along with Barlow as director, the title features writing from Allan Scott (Queen’s Gambit), Amelia Gray (Mr. Robot, Maniac) and Barry Gifford (Wild at Heart, Lost Highway).

You’ve probably noticed that each writer has a penchant for psychological thriller/horror films so it should be interesting to see how Immortality progresses. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming months.

Sam Barlow’s award-winning Her Story will be getting a sequel.

The man himself tweeted out a blurred page of what we can assume to be the plot with the words, “HS2 has a 1-pager. Neat.”

The name at this stage is simply a working title and Barlow himself has revealed that there is “no relation story-wise to Her Story.” It’ll still have live-action acting though so cross your fingers that Viva Seifert makes an appearance again.

Her Story released last year to a mountain of critical acclaim as reviewers praised it for its story-telling approach, depth of plot (which was open to interpretation) and the means by which players pieced together the story. The game has sold 60,000 copies on PC and 40,000 copies on iOS in its lifetime.

Indie puzzle adventure game Her Story, which mixes full motion video and cleverly acted scenes with a non-linear plot that requires investigation on the part of players, has managed some fairly good sales numbers since its release.

Creator Sam Barlow recently tweeted that, “Back from holidays & some cool news waiting for me: Her Story has sold over 100,000 copies after its first month and a bit on sale.”

This is indeed good news especially when you consider the approach that Her Story took to its plot. Players are required to investigate a murder involving a housewife. Suffice to say, things are not what they seem and it’s ultimately up to the player to piece together the woman’s story in order to find the truth.
