A new trailer for Croteam’s Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass was revealed during the Devolver Digital Direct, highlighting the fast-paced gameplay once again. Such a sight should be familiar to series’ veterans but it looks all the more enticing thanks to the improved visuals. Check it out below.

Serious Sam 4 sees Sam “Serious” Stone returning to battle the forces of Mental. Classic foes like the Werebull, Rocketeer and Kleer make a return with new enemies like the Possessed, Belcher and Zealot making their debut. The number of enemies is significantly higher this time around but Sam will have access to a new auto shotgun, chainsaw launcher and more to even the odds.

Serious Sam 4 will also support campaign co-op for up to four players online. Along with “primary” missions, players can also take part in “thrilling side quests” with difficulty modifiers available. Serious Sam 4 is out this August for PC and Google Stadia – the Xbox One and PS4 versions launch in 2021. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

Following the cancellation of E3 2020, various publishers are holding their own digital events or joining initiatives like the Summer Game Fest and Guerrilla Collective. Microsoft has first party Xbox Series X games to showcase in July while Ubisoft Forward will be taking place in the same month. One has to wonder though: What about Devolver Digital?

The indie-centric publisher is infamous for its E3 “presentations” which alternate between over-the-top and ultra-violent. And while Devolver Direct 2020 is still happening, the company said it wasn’t sure when due to “THESE UNCERTAIN TIMES.” That being said, it said that the showcase “should be a good one.”

There are a number of titles that it will be publishing in 2020 including Disc Room, Carrion, Sludge Life, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout and Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass. Then there are titles like Eitr and Weird West that still don’t have release dates. Stay tuned for more details on them all the same and keep an eye out for the inevitable return of Nina Struthers.

Devolver Digital, known for publishing titles like Hotline Miami, Serious Sam and Ruiner, has announced an E3 press conference for this year. It will take place on June 10th, 8 PM PT/11 PM ET and can be viewed on Twitch. Dubbed the “Big Fancy Press Conference” and taking place in the Dave Lang Memorial Convention Center, a fictitious place, Devolver Digital has promised quite a bit this year.

“This year’s Big Fancy Press Conference will feature real, actual game reveals and technological innovations from Developer Labs, the research and development arm of Devolver Digital responsible for last year’s Earliest Access program and making ‘throwing money at the screen’ a valid form of payment. There will almost certainly be blood, possibly loss of life,” the publisher stated.

If you skipped last year’s conference, then rest assured that it was a fever dream unlike any seen at E3. The conference as a whole made fun of numerous industry practices while also featuring some very real games. With Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass to be revealed this year, Devolver Digital’s conference wouldn’t be the worst place to do it. Or so we’d think.

E3 2018 will begin on June 12th till June 14th. However, the pressers will actually commence on June 9th with Electronic Arts’ EA Play event. Bethesda Softworks and Microsoft will follow up with their own pressers on June 10th.

The Division 2

Announced just a few months ago, Ubisoft Massive will finally deliver a sequel to its fledgling but ultimately solid third person looter shooter. Of course, there’s next to no information for what’s coming, whether it’s a new city or several, the continuation of the first game’s story and so on. However, the developer has ensured players that past feedback has been taken into account, unlike some other looter shooter sequels. Speaking of which…

It’s finally real. Developer Croteam has announced Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass, published by Devolver Digital, and released a short announcement trailer for the same. Though there’s no real information on the game, it will have a larger scale and the series’ trademark waves of enemies and absurd weapons.

The game’s Steam listing also promises that there won’t be a “single desert level”. There will be a proper reveal at E3 2018 so you’ll have to wait till then. The last mainline Serious Sam from the studio was Serious Sam 3: BFE, which released in November 2011 for PC first before heading to other platforms.

Croteam has been busy with other projects in the franchise including Serious Sam’s Bogus Detour, a top-down shooter released last year, and Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope. Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass is pretty much confirmed for PC but you can expect it to arrive on Xbox One and PS4 as well. Stay tuned for more details at E3 2018.
