Sony has announced the shuttering of servers of PS Vita exclusives Soul Sacrifice and Freedom Wars on December 24th.

The PlayStation Japanese website has announced that two more PS Vita exclusives will be getting robbed of online functionality pretty soon. The two games in question are Soul Sacrifice and Freedom Wars.

Soul Sacrifice and Freedom Wars are both Sony-published games based around co-operative play. Both games were published in response to Monster Hunter losing exclusivity to the platform, and while there hasn’t been much in the name of new content to these games lately, both have dedicated groups of players that do still play them.

Servers for both games as well as Soul Sacrifice Delta will be shut down on December 24th, 2021. Of course, players will be able to set up local play lobbies for the two games following the server termination period too.

Sony also previously tried to shut down the digital storefronts for PS3, PSP, and PS Vita although it had to retract its decision following immense backlash on the matter- read more on that through here.

Need a break from Monster Hunter? There are plenty of awesome games to hunt giant beasts/machines in.

Want to get more Monster Hunter World action but too stubborn to experience the excellent handheld editions like Monster Hunter Generations and XX? Take heed for there are similar games out there that let you hunt monsters. The differences from Monster Hunter World range from the minor to major but at the end of the day, here are 15 games that let you hunt down your foes.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

“Killing monsters” is Geralt’s calling and while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt didn’t have dragons or other monsters on the scale of previous games (with some DLC exceptions), there were still a number of beasts to fell. The creepy Leshens, hulking Fiends, Wraiths, Wyverns and much more await your blade. Fair warning though – the combat isn’t nearly as compelling as Monster Hunter, you can’t mount monsters, and much of the preparation falls to blade oils, potions and skills. It’s still fun though and the various side quests feel unique and interesting.

Vita's two biggest (original) games collide!

Earlier this year, Tecmo Koei released the excellent Toukiden: Age of Demons on the PlayStation Vita, a hunting action game that might be the best the genre has seen yet. Now, it’s getting free DLC that crosses over elements from another rather excellent hunting action franchise- Soul Sacrifice.

Tecmo announced that Soul Sacrifice themed DLC would be coming to Toukiden for free in the guise of two multiplayer missions, both of which will see the player take on the feared Cerberus, the three headed dog guardian- these two missions, entitled “Hell’s Guard Dog” and “Dogs of War”, can be accessed via the Portal Stone and multiplayer lobbies. They are high skill missions, and are only recommended for players with well upgraded gear and a handle on the game’s mechanics.

Alongside these new missions, players will also be getting access to new armor- also free, and available from the PSN Store starting March 26.

Soul Sacrifice Delta, the enhanced, expanded version of Sony’s PlayStation Vita exclusive hit action game Soul Sacrifice, hits Japan early next year, and at TGS this year, we got to see more than 20 minutes of pure, raw, unedited footage for the upcoming title. Now here’s it all, in its off screen glory, for you to watch and enjoy.

The clips above show both, single player action as well as four player co-op play. The gameplay looks pretty cool, so if you enjoyed the original title, you should like Delta as well.

Soul Sacrifice Delta is a heavily expanded version of the original game. Designed by Keiji Inafune, the man best known for creating Capcom’s mascor Mega Man series. He collaborated with Sony’s Japan studios to create this game. The same studio is not allegedly working on a PlayStation 4 game as well.

Stay tuned for more coverage either way.

Looks like the developer of Soul Sacrifice just cannot stop the stream of free downloadable content for their newly released action RPG on the PlayStation Vita. Soul Sacrifice is getting another three more bosses that can be downloaded for free via PlayStation Network.

Check out the trailers for each of the three bosses down below.

Boss #1

Soul Sacrifice is an action RPG that was released back in late April and has received mixed reviews. The game was supposed to be a killer-app for the PlayStation Vita, unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. However, the game is not bad by any means other than the fact that the gameplay can get a bit tedious and too repetitious for most people

If you enjoy RPG games that have a lot of grinding and repeated process then you might enjoy Soul Sacrifice, have a peek at our review right here.

Let us know what you think of Soul Sacrifice in the comments below.

General FAQ (via Reddit):

Q. I know that LE and SE come from saving and sacrificing enemies respectively, and I know that the chances to get + and ++ increase if the soul is berserk or divine or what have you. For bosses, how does that work? If I fight a harder Cerberus do I have a better chance of getting + or ++ or does it not matter?

A. Lower level bosses die earlier, but the really early ones for many have no chance of getting + and ++ essences.

Q. How do the special dark costumes work? Is that only after maxing level?

A. Each costume has a white, black, and gold color scheme. White is unlocked by Saving 100 archfiends wearing that one outfit, and Black is unlocked by Sacrificing 100. Gold is unlocked after you save 200 Archfiends while wearing the white color scheme and Sacrificing 200 while wearing black.

One of best experiences on the PS Vita.

Losing Monster Hunter must not have gone down well with Sony. The PSP’s resurgence in the Japanese market was entirely due to that series, so now, what about the Vita?

Is it doomed to mediocre sales for the rest of its life? Or would its creator aggressively try to court developers into creating something that does in fact give it a chance in the ever challenging video games market?

The answer is Soul Sacrifice; a game made by previous Capcom executive, Keiji Inafune, in collaboration with Sony. Well that sounds great, but is the game a proper replacement for Monster Hunter? First, let me get this doubt out of the way. It has nothing to do with Monster Hunter except for some similar themes.

Soul Sacrifice is purely a single player game that offers tons of content and is definitely something that is a showcase for the Vita’s hardware. The game starts off in style, too.

You are a no-name prisoner captured and in a cage, ready to be executed by an evil magician. The guy who was in the queue before you dies a horrible death, and it’s your turn next. So what do you do?

Luckily, you find a talking book called Librom, which is filled with secrets, and is the key to you getting out of that place and possibly defeating the evil magician. Librom gives you the quests and also contains all the inventory details from where you can customize your character.

The story is told in an interesting way where you get to relive the memories of the evil magician–who was actually a good guy at one time. The point here is to find out how he turned into evil and what circumstances led to that change.

It’s not going to be easy though. This is a massive game and reaching the end and finding answers to all your questions will take a lot of time. In a way it’s refreshing that a handheld game contains so much content and makes it easier to pick up and play due to the mission structure.

The game is all about magic, gore and violence. It’s about punishing your enemies, sacrificing them, using your body parts to create weapons to do damage to the things standing in your way. It also features a good customization options which allows you to choose the magic type, the way your character looks and so on.

The game looks great on the Vita screen. The lighting effects really does make the game stand out a bit. However, considering it’s a handheld game there are limitations like low res textures. That’s not really a major issue though since all you will be doing is fighting enemies and trying to survive.

There are two major mechanics in the game that are available to you after defeating an enemy. You can use the enemy’s soul to either increase your health bar or magic bar. This has to be done properly depending on what’s required.

The game eases you into a tutorial with weak enemies early on and it will be very easy to beat them and get the hang of the controls, which are very smooth. I had a doubt whether the controls would do justice to the game since it’s on a handheld, but there’s absolutely no problem with that.

As you flick the pages of Librom and fight enemies, you will become stronger, gain more powers and advance in the story.

The animations when you activate a power is well done and it really does feel like the developers wanted players to see how cool it is to have powers like that. The game contains a variety of powers like short range attack boost to some massive damage attacks.

For example, you can transform into a boulder and charge into an enemy, and if it’s a lowly one, then you can eliminate it with this move. Using such moves will reduce your magic and you need to use the souls of your defeated foes to replenish the bar. The level design is constricted but considering it’s a handheld game it is something that we normally don’t see often. When you compare it to console games, sure, it does look weathered down, but on handhelds it becomes an ambitious thing.

There are powers in this game that will clean out everything on the screen, including bosses. But there’s a downside to all that. The more powerful your attack, the more weak your body becomes, and also requires a rare resource to be completely healed. It’s like a game of chess where you have to plan your moves properly, avoid enemies when your health is low, and somehow try to win without taking much damage.

One thing I was disappointed in was the story. There’s hardly any motivation to do things the book tells you to do. It’s about the end goal of escaping from the predicament you find yourself in, and there’s hardly any narrative branches to make things interesting.

However, the game is an ambitious one on a handheld, and is arguably the PS Vita’s best game so far. There may be Uncharted’s in the future, but when you look at the amount of unique features Soul Sacrifice possesses, filled with inspiring art design and menacing enemies, it automatically takes it a level higher than the rest.

Soul Sacrifice has released for the PlayStation Vita today in North America and Europe. From Keiji Inafune and Marvelous AQL, the game focuses on a mage’s prisoner who uses a magic tome to sacrifice souls for the purpose of power. Of course, he sacrifices his own parts for that very purpose. Check out the trailer above to ponder just what you’d do for ultimate power.

The prisoner will be exploring the different chapters in the tome, fighting through adventures wrought with monsters and evil demons. Using ad-hoc multiplayer, four players can fight cooperatively to take on the challenges within Librom and see whether they have what it takes to escape unscathed.

The mechanics of the game involving either saving or sacrificing enemies and allies for different benefits. You can save allies by sacrificing your own health, or sacrifice them to unleash damaging attacks. It’s an intriguing concept and players can use this to specialize in different skills and classes.

Biggest demo ever?

Soul Sacrifice demo is out now for the US on PSN and features a fully playable first chapter of the game and a save feature that allows players to carry their progress over to the released version of the game. The first chapter of Soul Sacrfice can be played with three other people on PlayStation’s Vita Ad-Hoc mode all throughout it’s entirety.

Keiji Inafune explained why he decided to go with a full-blown demo instead of your regular one level demo that most games have. “The number one reason for the Soul Sacrifice demo to have a lot of content was to show the users the full attraction of Soul Sacrifice,” he said. “We knew that cutting out a small section of the game and saying, ‘Isn’t this part fun?’ would not show the users the full potential of the game. We figured that it wouldn’t make sense if the users could not have the ‘I want to play more’ feeling.”

Players who play the Soul Sacrifice demo can save their progress and carry it over to the full retail version of the game once its finally out in the USA on April 30th 2013. Those who use the save feature from the demo will also be rewarded with an item called Spirits’ Heart’. Spirits Heart will allow players to summon a “powerful stone golem that will fight for you”.

Soul Sacrifice demo is out now on PlayStation Network. What are you waiting for? Go download it.
