Insider NateTheHate isn't 100 percent confirmed on the details, but Sony's next showcase is reportedly much closer than expected.

Insider NateTheHate is no stranger to buzz, but his recent tweets about a new State of Play possibly occurring well before June gained “unexpected attraction and buzz.” Although the confirmation was still pending on his end, he decided to share a potential date anyway: April 16th. About one week away.

This sounds about fitting, with Insomniac Games dropping new information on Marvel’s Wolverine, just as it promised multiple times for the Spring. Right? Not exactly. Instead, the insider heard that it’s “more third-party focused,” though again, “not 100 percent certain.” His reliability has been rock-solid until now, especially when it comes to showcases, but you may want to take things with a grain of salt this time around.

Of course, that only raises more questions. February’s State of Play was well-received and jam-packed with first and third-party reveals and announcements. Is there anything left for a showcase focused entirely on the latter? Perhaps Kena: Scars of Kosmora and Silent Hill: Townfall will appear with release dates. Time will tell.

This could also mean that a State of Play dedicated to Marvel’s Wolverine will take place later this month, if not in May. It wouldn’t be the first time – Horizon Forbidden West had such a showcase in May 2021, while Borderlands 4 had its own in April 2025. Either way, you probably shouldn’t expect it at next week’s State of Play, if it ends up real.

Sony could unleash a new State of Play on the masses even sooner than many of us expected, according to insider NateTheHate.

The last State of Play event from February gave us a lot to look forward to, from the announcement of Kena: Scars of Kosmora to a solid peek at Silent Hill: Townfall. Of course, even more showcases are in store in the coming months, including Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase, but if the rumors are true, Sony could beat them all to the punch.

Popular leaker NateTheHate has responded to queries about doing a new video on PlayStation in the near future, stating that he would “consider it after the next State of Play.” When asked whether that was going to be in June, he responded that it “could be well before that”, although he did mention that nothing’s set in stone at the moment.

Still, the prospect of a new State of Play event has us quite enthusiastic, given the time frame. We could finally get a good look at Insomniac’s take on Wolverine after that explosive trailer has us itching to sink our claws (pun intended) into it. Plus, there’s always the possibility of brand new announcements or updates to existing games. Maybe a release date for Townfall?

As always, you can be sure that we’ll be right there bringing all of the news to you if this turns out to be true, so stay tuned for updates.

Bungie won't drop a "surprise preview" this weekend, but it will inform fans of the "dates in advance", so they have time to plan.

PlayStation’s newest State of Play goes live later today, and with over 60 minutes of reveals and announcements, the hype is palpable. Of course, with PlayStation Studios confirmed for the same, it only made sense to expect something from Bungie’s Marathon. On cue, the official Discord has confirmed the extraction shooter’s presence.

Not only that, but there will be a gameplay livestream afterwards at 3 PM PT with game director Joe Ziegler and some “special guests.” Unfortunately, those expecting a “surprise preview drop” this weekend will be disappointed as it’s currently not on the cards.

However, Bungie only confirmed that it wasn’t this weekend – for all we know, the State of Play announcement could announce an open beta for later this month. It would certainly fit with the studio’s approach of letting players “know the dates in advance so you have some more time to plan around them.”

Marathon is out on March 5th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC after a tumultuous development period, including (but not limited to) theft of assets from an independent artist, which was later settled. It retails for $40 and includes six Runners at launch, which you can learn more about here. A recent preview event in China yielded some new details, including Ziegler claiming that seasons would offer a “months-long roguelike adventure.”

Perhaps we’ll learn more about seasons and other improvements, as spotted in the last closed beta, in today’s livestream. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.

The first State of Play of 2026 is nearly upon us, with over an hour of announcements and revelations. Here's what could appear.

It’s February, and you know what that means. No, not just the launch of big-name games like Resident Evil Requiem, but the first State of Play for the year. PlayStation has announced a pretty showcase to kick things off with over 60 minutes of news, announcements, reveals, and more from PlayStation Studios and third-party developers worldwide.

Obviously, you should never get too hyped and expect the impossible – like Grand Theft Auto 6, especially when Take-Two specifically said marketing would begin this Summer – but there’s plenty more to look forward to. Let’s dive into 15 potential announcements that could occur, starting with the most obvious…

A Hideo Kojima Trailer

Leave it to Hideo Kojima to effectively prove that a State of Play is happening soon through little more than photos of his workspace. The Death Stranding 2 director recently tweeted about editing a new trailer, his first in eight months, and at this point, it seems more than likely that the sequel’s PC version could get announced at last. But that’s too safe, so we’ll go all in and hope for something Physint-related as well. Give me Robert Pattinson in that leading role, Kojima. You know you want to.

Saros

After its previous delay, Housemarque promised it would have more on its roguelite shooter ahead of launch. We’re now a little over two months away, and there’s no better place, especially if the team wants to showcase some of the bosses that we’ll tackle on Carcosa. But I wouldn’t be surprised if a deeper dive was announced for a later date, as befitting a first-party title such as Saros.

Marvel’s Wolverine

It’s a long shot since Insomniac Games’ titles typically begin marketing closer to launch. But if Marvel’s Wolverine somehow launches in the last week of September, thus still hitting its Autumn window, it could mean earlier appearances. Regardless, it’s Sony’s first State of Play for the year, and what better way to go in swinging than with the best there is at what he does?

4:Loop

Am I saying you should look forward to 4:Loop, even if it’s from Mike Booth of Left 4 Dead legend? Well, no, but does that mean it won’t appear at State of Play? That’s a different matter entirely. But hey, if nothing else, Bad Robot Games could announce some playtest dates, and hopefully showcase the co-op title’s main hook (and why it won’t be immediately DOA on arrival).

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Judging by the updated Steam page, which was quickly remedied, it seems that Arc System Works and Sony are getting to drop more details on the 4v4 tag fighter. Potential open beta? Maybe even a release date sometime in the coming months? Whatever the case may be, we’ve been itching to go hands-on with Marvel Tōkon since it was first revealed, and can’t wait to see more.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve

While it’s a multiplatform release, Bandai Namco titles have been regulars at State of Play. It thus wouldn’t be surprising for the next Ace Combat to receive some new details, maybe highlight the newer features or that sumptuous-looking aerial combat. Mayhaps it’s too soon for a release date, but then again, stranger things have happened in the world of Strangereal.

Crimson Desert

As we eagerly await the third Features Overview trailer for Crimson Desert, basking in even more details of its open-world excellence, would some new gameplay at State of Play be out of left field? Considering how many eyes would be on it, and the fact that the game is out next month, probably not. Maybe it’s a slight stretch, but there’s no better time for marketing.

Silent Hill: Townfall

Alright, Annapurna – you’ve had your fun and games, keeping Townfall on the download all these years after announcing it. With how biased Konami is towards State of Play and PlayStation in general with Silent Hill, it seems reasonable to expect an update on the next big game during the showcase. We’ll settle for anything at this point – a release window, gameplay, even just proof that the project remains alive.

Starfield on PS5

Long-rumored and potentially long-desired? That remains to be seen, but based on alleged retail leaks, Starfield could very well arrive this Spring for PS5, at long last. It stands to reason that Update 2.0, which could fix so many issues that we’ve had with the space-faring RPG to date, will go live as well, though the next story expansion seems far less certain. Either way, what better way to remind the world that Starfield is alive, to their humor or not, than at State of Play?

Marathon

Marketing has ramped up for Bungie’s problematic extraction shooter in recent months, and it’s somehow managing to look somewhat palatable ahead of its release in March. Given the trajectory of other titles, it only seems reasonable to host a series of open playtests for all platforms, and even more so to announce dates for the same during Sony’s own show.

Resident Evil Requiem

With Resident Evil Requiem out later this month, it seems only a given that State of Play should give us a new trailer. Maybe a little morsel of a tease, perhaps even a new character, really, anything, to keep the hype going. Granted, it seems a little late at this point to expect a free demo like previous entries and remakes, so we’ll have to be satisfied with something big.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Between Pragmata getting a release date and demo, and Requiem showing off Leon like he’s going out of style, Onimusha: Way of the Sword has been rather quiet lately. I don’t know if I could see the brave Musashi’s next totally historically accurate adventure getting a launch date this soon. Still, there could very well be other bombshell details waiting to be revealed.

Directive 8020

Remember Supermassive Games’ sci-fi horror title that seemingly dropped off the face of the Earth after its last delay? It appeared at last year’s State of Play, and if it’s launching anytime soon, then this is certainly a big enough occasion to announce it. How much more you could show at this point to get players on board, that too without venturing into spoiler territory, is anyone’s guess, but if it’s out anytime in the next few months, now is better than never.

Control Resonant

Between dropping bits and morsels about Resonant’s combat, level design, gameplay loop, and much more, Remedy Entertainment has stated that it will share more “soon.” And you can’t get much sooner than this. Whether the time is ripe for a release date announcement is another matter entirely, but more extensive gameplay, especially as Dylan rips and tears his way through Manhattan, will do just fine.

The Witcher 3 DLC

Another potentially out of left field announcement? Undoubtedly, but given estimates that it will launch in May – assuming it even exists – it wouldn’t be surprising if CD Projekt RED chose State of Play to kick off the hype train. Maybe you don’t need that much to really get people on board – it is The Witcher 3 after all – but with no other major showcases in the coming months, this may very well be the perfect storm.

Senior product development director Mihir Sheth may have accidentally mixed up the years and inadvertently confirmed this week's show.

‘Tis the season – or month – for State of Play, and amid rumors of the next happening on February 12th, it seems PlayStation may have let the proverbial cat out of the bag by accident. Spotted on Twitter, senior product development director Mihir Sheth seemingly retweeted an announcement of the showcase for the same date. The problem? It was for last year’s show.

While it’s since been deleted, you can view the mirror here (courtesy of Reddit). It’s possible that Sheth thought it was for this year and that the announcement already went live, not knowing that he was retweeting last year’s. Maybe it was a tease in his own way, which he deleted because it was plain as day what it could mean.

Regardless, there are other clues for the same. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach director Hideo Kojima tweeted about editing a new trailer, which usually happens before a big showcase (or State of Play). There’s also the fact that the show has happened around this time, if not this exact week, for the past several years. Of course, knowing Sony, you can probably expect them to confirm it exactly one day before the actual showcase.

Stay tuned in the meantime, but if (and when) State of Play happens, you can probably expect to see Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Saros, 4:Loop and maybe that rumored 2.5 Metroidvania spin-off for God of War.

While not too many details about this upcoming State of Play have been revealed, we can expect to finally see Marvel's Wolverine.

Known industry leaker NateTheHate believes that Sony has a State of Play presentation planned for next week. While no further details about this State of Play have been revealed so far, including a date or time, the event is expected to be a precursor to the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2025. The event is also expected to give us our first look at Insomniac Games’ long-in-development project Marvel’s Wolverine.

This upcoming State of Play will serve as a follow-up to the last one we got back in June, which proved to be an incredibly successful event for Sony. The livestream for June’s State of Play had gotten more than 2.2 million live viewers, marking a new record for the company’s showcases. At its peak, the State of Play got 2.2 million concurrent viewers, which averaged out to around 1.9 million viewers over the course of a stream.

Sony also recently held a game-specific State of Play earlier this month, focusing on IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond title 007: First Light. During the event, quite a few details about the game were revealed, including stealth and action gameplay, Q gadgets, melee combat, and more.

As for Marvel’s Wolverine, considering how long it has been in development and the nature of Insomniac Games, it is expected to essentially be the headlining trailer at the State of Play. The game’s presence during the event was indicated thanks to a report from earlier this month.

“I heard that there was going to be or there is going to be a State of Play towards the end of the month, and then, separately, from a person who I’ve known for years and has given me the most reliable information you can get, he then said that the Wolverine trailer is done,” said Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson in a podcast earlier this month. “You put two and two together, it suggests that Marvel’s Wolverine trailer is done because it’s going to be at the State of Play in September. It might not be. And if it isn’t, then possibly The Game Awards. We all know that Geoff Keighley likes his big reveals. Or who knows, maybe there’s another event.”

Another report from this month has indicated that Marvel’s Wolverine has come quite far in its development, to and that playtesters have been quite impressed by how it looks nad plays.

“So, it is done. It obviously was delayed to quite a big extent,” said Henderson in the same podcast. “From what I’ve managed to hear, from people working on the project, obviously, the ransomware attack and all the game leaking is one thing, but then the emotional strain that it places on people when you have all of your information leaked, like your address, social security numbers, and all that kind of stuff, is massive.”

“So that obviously delayed the game as well. But from a few playtesters I’ve been speaking to, they think the game looks fantastic. So that’s good news, and fingers crossed we get to see a release date in a couple of weeks’ time.”

The showcase is over 40 minutes long and will celebrate a "creative and unique selection of exciting games" for PS5 from various studios.

Sony has announced that the next PlayStation State of Play will occur on February 12th at 2 PM PT. Airing on YouTube and Twitch, it will run for over 40 minutes and showcase a “creative and unique selection of exciting games” for PS5 from studios worldwide.

Based on the PS5’s release schedule, it’s likely that we’ll see updates for Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei and Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Director Hideo Kojima has been teasing editing a trailer for the latter recently and previously promised a release date announcement this year.

Haven Studios’ co-op heist title Fairgame$ could receive an update if it’s survived the recent shift in Sony’s live-service initiative. One rumored title that could appear is Sony Santa Monica’s next God of War, reportedly set in Greece with a younger Kratos as the protagonist. Rogue Factor’s Hell is Us could also appear especially with its release date seemingly leaked. Stay tuned for more details when State of Play returns tomorrow.

Sony's upcoming showcase could arrive in the middle of the month, per insider NateTheHate, though its reveals are unknown.

After alleging a new PlayStation State of Play for this month, insider NateTheHate has teased that it could drop around February 14th. In a recent exchange on Twitter, he reaffirmed next month for the showcase, and when asked if it’s early, in the middle or later, the response was, “What does your heart tell you?”

This seemingly indicates a drop on Valentine’s Day. If so, expect Sony to announce the same one day prior, alongside details on what to expect. Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Yotei and Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On the Beach are coming this year, which could mean new trailers. Given last year’s State of Play, expect some third-party announcements.

However, Sony has remained fairly mum on other releases, including live-service co-op heist title Fairgame$. With the company cancelling upcoming live-service titles from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, it remains to be seen if Haven Studios’ project will survive. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.

As in previous years, Sony is reportedly gearing up for a showcase of its upcoming titles, though which ones remains to be seen.

Fresh off of correctly reporting the Nintendo Switch 2’s reveal date, leaker NateTheHate has teased the next State of Play for February. Further details haven’t been revealed, but it sounds reasonable given Sony’s propensity for the month (or close enough) over recent years.

The real question is what it could reveal. Last year featured Silent Hill 2 remake gameplay, the reveal of Sonic X Shadow Generations, Rise of the Ronin, Silent Hill: The Short Message, Metro Awakening, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Kojima Productions also featured heavily on the broadcast, presenting new Death Stranding 2: On the Beach footage and announcing a new stealth action IP, Physint.

Death Stranding 2 will receive a release date this year, so why not at the next State of Play? We could also learn more about Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei (also out in 2025) and Haven Studios’ co-op heist shooter Fairgame$. Maybe Bend Studio’s next IP will appear as well. Stay tuned in the meantime.

4A Games' next Metro title could be VR-focused, with an announcement happening "very soon", potentially at the next State of Play.

Amid the many titles teased for the next potential State of Play, Xbox Era co-founder Nick Baker mentioned Metro. It may seem completely innocuous, but 4A Games is confirmed to be working on a new title in the post-apocalyptic series. What isn’t so apparent is that it’s rumored to be a VR title.

As reported by Kurakasis on Twitter, it’s called Metro Awakening, with an announcement coming “very soon.” The next State of Play is rumored for January 31st/February 1st, so it could very well make an appearance.

4A Games first announced a new single-player title in the series for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC in 2020, later confirming the story to be influenced by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Insider Gaming reported in August 2023 that external playtests were “consistently” ongoing for the past year.

It’s possible that Metro Awakening launches this year, with the State of Play announcement revealing the first trailer and release window. However, if it’s a VR title, will it still launch on Xbox Series X/S (assuming this is the same title)? It could be a traditional first-person shooter with a VR mode for the PS5 and PC versions, but we’ll need more details.

4A Games also said it was “actively exploring multiplayer concepts that will offer a new way to experience the world of Metro.” Its plans were unclear, but it’s “committed to more single-player, story-driven experiences in the Metro universe that our fans have come to know and love.”
