State of Play allegedly returns in February, which shouldn’t surprise those who have followed PlayStation over the past few years. Of course, the question remains: When? Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb seemingly has the answer, and it’s the week of February 12th.
Citing NateTheHate’s original report on the latest Game Mess Mornings podcast, Grubb said, “It’s happening on February 12th. So there you go.” However, he added that it’s “probably always safe to say the week of February 12th. The week of February 12th is what I should say.”
The date falls on a Thursday, which is about par for the course, since Sony usually hosts these showcases in the middle of the week. As for what could appear, it’s really anyone’s guess, but my money is on Housemarque’s Saros. Originally slated for March 20th, it suffered a delay to April 30th to ensure that it “exceeds” the developer’s vision.
However, it couldn’t wait to share more about the rogue-lite and how the team is pushing the PS5’s hardware. At the very least, a new trailer seems obvious, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a dedicated State of Play before launch.
Marvel’s Wolverine, due this Fall, feels like a bigger stretch. Remember how much of the marketing for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 didn’t begin until close to release? If we’re talking about long shots, though, maybe Grand Theft Auto 6 could appear with some new details and PlayStation-exclusive content. It certainly wouldn’t be a first for Rockstar and Sony. Perhaps we’ll receive more clarity on rumors of the physical edition being unavailable at launch.
