While it is at least a full year away, The Callisto Protocol is looking like one of the most interesting projects to be coming for the new generation of consoles. Revealed with a wicked CG trailer and hailing a lot of talent that worked on the beloved Dead Space franchise, it could very well be something special (also, it’s randomly connected to PUBG). Now it seems we have a new player involved.

Skybound games announced that they will be partnering with developer Striking Distance. It doesn’t seem as if the deal is Skybound being a traditional publisher, as that will be Krafton, Inc that handles all PUBG Corp related market, but they will seemingly be involved in helping to market the game on a global scale as well as help with distribution. You can read the full press release and known details through here.

The Callisto Protocol is set to release sometime in 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Haptic feedback and 3D audio is specifically pointed out.

Next year we will see the birth of a new horror franchise with The Callisto Project (or hopefully anyway, barring no delays). The game was revealed with an rather gruesome trailer and looks to be something of a callback to Dead Space, which developer Striking Distance has attachment to with key staff members. They are looking to make a scary game to help kickstart us on this generation of consoles, and it seems they have eyes on some of the PS5 features.

In the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine (February 2021), Studio Lead Glen Schofield spoke about some of the specific PS5 features they were looking at to maximize the scares. One thing he pointed out was the Tempest 3D AudioTech and how you can use it to increase tension with the direction of enemies, something that will be great for a horror game, saying, “You can hear something, and it sounds like it’s behind your back, or it’s just above you. With headphones on, it’s insane.”

The audio is always a big part of these experiences, but he is also looking at the controller and its haptic feedback. While he didn’t go into details, he thinks that they can use the new and more detailed rumble to create a new sensation for horror titles.

“We’ll see how we can get that to work. But I think we can get a couple of scares out of the of the controller itself,” Schofield says. “There’s a number of things that are really going to help us make a next-generation survival horror.”

The Callisto Protocol is set to release in 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game will also have a canon connection to PUBG, which you can read more details on through here.

Last year we got the frightful reveal of The Callisto Protocol, an upcoming next gen horror title from some of the same minds that brought up the beloved Dead Space franchise. While all we have at the moment is a CGI trailer and a few details, maybe one of the odder aspects of the game is that it is canonically connected to the battle royale title, PUBG. Today we got a little more detail about what that will entail.

Speaking with GamesRadar, Striking Distance’s Glen Schofield explained what was going on with this oddball connection. Said to be set 300 years in the future of PUBG, Schofield said they were working with PUBG Corps with their team of writers to flesh out the lore of the world of PUBG and The Callisto Project will be part of that. He says there is a timeline to it all, but also said the connection itself won’t be a deep one, and will instead lead more into nods and references for fans, and even hints PUBG itself may be dropping some references to Callisto at some point as well.

“We’re helping PUBG Corp right now as a team of writers, working on the lore for PUBG and its universe,” he said. “They have a timeline, and we fit on that timeline now. It’s not going to be really deep, but there will be little connections here and there. We’ll probably be referencing one another from time to time… It will make more sense once the game comes out!”

The Callisto Protocol is set to release in 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

At this years The Game Awards we got the reveal for The Callisto Protocol. A game that is looking to be quite the intense horror affair and is also looking to be a spiritual successor to some degree to the beloved horror series, Dead Space (also, it’s set 300 years in the future of the PUBG universe). It’s going to be awhile before we see more of the game, but in the meantime we are getting to see more of what we already saw at that event.

An extended, “Red Band,” version of the original reveal trailer has now been released and you can see it in full below. There’s about 25 seconds of more footage here, mostly focused on the monster attack and extending its gruesomeness. There’s also a bit more of a stinger at the end that shows what happens right after that monster attack.

The Callisto Protocol is set to release in 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. If you’re curious about the differences between this trailer and the original, you can watch it through here to compare and contrast.

At this year’s Game Awards, we got our first look at The Callisto Protocol, a new sci-fi horror game that looks to potentially scratch that Dead Space itch. It won’t be out for another 2 years, however, so it’ll be a long wait, but in the meantime there is a bit of interesting information about the game and its relation to another series, the original battle royale shooter PUBG.

Glen Schofield spoke with IGN about the game, and revealed that the title actually takes place in the PUBG universe, very far off in the future. If you weren’t aware, the developer Striking Distance was built under PUBG Corps, the owner and publisher of the battle royale franchise, and the idea for Callisto Protocol was born out of that.

“The funny thing is, I came in with this story when I went and met with the PUBG people for the first time and started talking about [The Callisto Protocol] and building a studio. I presented this game to them, and so what we did was we made it fit within the PUBG storyline.”

It’s a bit of strange trivia, but probably one that won’t matter a whole lot outside a few references and easter eggs. Schofield said he hopes the game will be the scariest one of the new generation, whether it’s connected to PUBG or not. We’ll see for ourselves when The Callisto Protocol releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2022.

The developers want to replicate the scares and thrills of the original Dead Space.

One of the biggest and most pleasant surprises to come out of The Game Awards this year was The Callisto Protocol. Developed by a team made up of former Visceral Games veterans and led up by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield, it looked exactly like the sort of successor to the beloved horror franchise (in spirit, if not in name) that fans have been desperate for for years.

The Callisto Protocol’s developers have already spoken about the game’s similarities to Dead Space, and recently, speaking with IGN, Glen Schofield spoke a bit more about that. More specifically, after acknowledging Dead Space’s legacy of one of the most terrifying horror games of its time, he said that developer Striking Distance is hoping to reach similar heights with The Callisto Protocol.

“I’m looking forward to really trying to make the scariest game on next-gen platforms,” Schofield said. “From what I hear — it’s hard to be the creative and talk nicely about it — but from what I hear… [Dead Space] was one of the scarier games of [its generation] and I want to do the same on next-gen, or what’s considered now the current-gen.”

The Callisto Protocol is due out some time in 2022 for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Dead Space fans have been getting over the heartbreak of the franchise’s (and its developer’s) demise for some years now, but recently, we were treated to the announcement of a game that looks to be filling the void that it left behind. Striking Distance announced The Callisto Protocol at The Game Awards, with its development being led up by Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield, and the team working on it being comprised of many former Dead Space developers. That, and the fact that the game has a sci-fi survival horror setting, has led to many comparisons between the two properties.

Speaking recently in an interview with VG247, Striking Distance’s chief development officer Steve Papoutsis (who was also managing director at Dead Space developer Visceral Games) addressed the comparisons.

“It’s not surprising given that a lot of the people that are working on the project also worked on the Dead Space series,” Papoutsis said. “It’s interesting that people are putting that together. We’re passionate about the game we’re working on and it’s nice to hear people reminiscing about those games that many of us have fond memories around.”

“There’s just a passion here for horror games from me, Glen and some of the wonderful team we have assembled,” Papoutsis said when asked about what formed the core of the game’s idea at the outset of development. “We were hoping to do something that was single-player driven, story-focused that provided a lot of opportunities for scares. We had some cool ideas around the theme in terms of where it’s going to take place – on a prison colony on Jupiter’s dead moon, Callisto. That was literally the top-line lift pitch.”

The Callisto Protocol is due out some time in 2022 for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
