Team Cherry's free upgrade leverages the console's power for improved visuals and higher frame rates for the 2017 masterpiece.

Team Cherry previously announced that the original Hollow Knight would be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition release, and lo and behold, it appeared during the recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase. As an added surprise, Hollow Knight Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is slated for launch later today through the Nintendo eShop.

Much like the Switch 2 Edition upgrade for Hollow Knight: Silksong, the original title’s upgrade will also be free for players that already own its Switch version. It largely revolves around offering performance and visual upgrades thanks to the Switch 2’s more powerful hardware.

Hollow Knight was originally released all the way back in 2017, with its Nintendo Switch release happening a year later to great success. The title takes several cues from the Metroidvania and Soulslike genres, with a focus on exploration and non-linear storytelling.

Players take on the role of the titular knight, and set off on a journey throughout the fallen kingdom of Hallownest as they search for memories of their origins. The title has been critically acclaimed, and has seen quite a bit of commercial success along the way as well.

Hollow Knight eventually also got a sequel, the critically-acclaimed Hollow Knight: Silksong. As of December, the sequel has sold more than 7 million copies.

For more details on Hollow Knight, check out our reviews of the original and the sequel. And if you’re craving more content, Silksong is getting an expansion, dubbed Sea of Sorrow, later this year.

Other platforms will also receive support for 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratios, with a beta update currently available on PC.

A lot is happening with Hollow Knight: Silksong in 2026, but Team Cherry also has plenty in store for fans of the original. It starts with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which promises higher resolutions and frame rate alongside “additional graphical effects.” And yes, it’s free for those who own the original on the Switch 1.

But that’s not all, as all platforms will be updated with new features, including 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratios. In fact, that patch is currently available for PC players through the beta branches on Steam and GOG. A quick look at the patch notes confirms a dithering effect and options for reduced color banding, the game pausing in inventory screens, and smoother map panning.

Of course, there are also gameplay changes and fixes, from Salubra’s Blessing deactivating upon reaching max Soul to reducing the stagger bounce height of Grey Prince Zote. It isn’t the full list of fixes and improvements, as Team Cherry will add on to it before the Switch 2 version launches next year.

"Your continued enthusiasm remains a massive motivator as we work towards expanding the game even further," said Team Cherry.

Hollow Knight: Silksong took the world by storm when it launched in September after years of anticipation. While the critical response was great, how did it fare commercially? Pretty well, as Team Cherry announced over seven million sales.

This is especially impressive considering the Metroidvania is available on Game Pass (where “millions” have experienced it, per the developer). “It’s a truly staggering number of players, more than we could have ever expected (enough to crash all of the storefronts!),” said Team Cherry, referring to the first few hours of release, where Steam, the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and more simply collapsed.

“Watching the community grow, seeing the amazing art, the mods, the unexpected strategies, and the support between players through the game’s challenges has been hugely rewarding for us here at home. Your continued enthusiasm remains a massive motivator as we work towards expanding the game even further.”

Of course, the team isn’t stopping anytime soon. The first expansion for Silksong, Sea of Sorrow, will launch for free in 2026. It includes new areas and bosses, along with new tools for players to discover. Though “well underway,” Team Cherry didn’t provide a concrete release window, instead promising additional information before release.

Stay tuned for more details, and in the meantime, check out our review for the base game. We gave it a ten out of ten, praising the excellent environment design, combat, pacing, bosses, and much more.

The nautical-themed expansion will be free for all players and add new bosses, tools, and areas for the acclaimed Metroidvania.

When Team Cherry confirmed it was working on new content for Hollow Knight: Silksong, there was concern that there would be another long wait. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as it announced Sea of Sorrow, a free expansion coming next year. Check out the first teaser trailer below.

Details are scant at the moment, but it’s nautically themed and will feature new areas, tools to discover and bosses to fight. Team Cherry is currently keeping things under wraps, but it has interestingly noted that you can expect “additional info” before launch. Which means the next time we hear about Sea of Sorrow could be right before it’s available, in classic Team Cherry fashion.

In the meantime, for those who waited years for the Metroidvania, reset the clock.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One and PS4. It’s also available on Game Pass. Check out our review for the base game.

Co-founder Ari Gibson doesn't "expect to take an excessive amount of time, but we still are pursuing the same development philosophy."

Reset the clock – after previously hinting at it, Team Cherry has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will indeed receive new content. When is it coming? Therein lies the rub – studio founders Ari Gibson and William Penn don’t know.

Speaking to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Gibson said, “We didn’t plan seven years for Silksong. Not that we expect to take an excessive amount of time, but we still are pursuing the same development philosophy, which sometimes can expand our timeframe.”

The fact that Silksong is getting new content isn’t all that surprising. After all, Hollow Knight also received DLC – fairly quickly at that, with Hidden Dreams arriving a mere six months after. However, as Gibson notes, “The nature of some of that DLC was quite small.

“In the way we think about these little expansions, or even the elements of the main game, now there might be more of a sense that we want story structures around them that weren’t present in some of the Hollow Knight expansions. We added a few extra bosses, but the framing around it was all fairly simplistic,” he continued.

“If we add stuff now, because Hornet has this voice and mind, we want to find out what she thinks about this stuff. Once you start having her think about this stuff, story starts to happen, and then that could increase the scale of any expansion we did.”

Of course, it’s no secret that Silksong began as DLC for Hollow Knight before eventually blossoming into a full-fledged title. Whether the cycle will repeat itself remains to be seen, but at the very least, Team Cherry is enjoying what it does.

When asked if they spent a specific amount of time adding to a title before moving on, Penn said, “We haven’t thought that much about the time, but we’ve thought about the ideas that we have, the stuff we want to make and put in there.”

“And then we do have other games that we plan to make,” added Penn. The only time concern really is — and we’ve talked about this before — death. It’s not that far off if you spend seven years per project, and potentially add another two. So it’d be nice to do a few more games. Apparently, our timeframe still allows us to fit a few more in. Short of an unexpected tragedy.”

Hollow Knight: Silksong is available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. It reportedly crossed five million players in three days, and while Team Cherry didn’t share sales numbers, Schreier noted that “millions” of copies were sold.

However, the sudden update does slightly buff damage from the Sharp Dart and Cross Stitch, alongside more out-of-bounds glitches.

If you’re still trying to beat Hollow Knight: Silksong, good news: Team Cherry’s latest patch has nerfed its strongest skill, Thread Storm. It’s not the biggest change, at least initially – a slight decrease in damage at higher Needle levels will ultimately impact those in the late game.

Otherwise, patch 1.0.28891 is full of fixes and improvements, including support for DualSense Edge controllers on PC. It also pauses when the controller disconnects, resulting in less frustration at inopportune moments. The Curveclaw should now react with the Hunter down-stab, and rare instances of unintentionally being able to air dash and double jump have been fixed.

Check out the full patch notes below for more details. Hollow Knight: Silksong is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 alongside Game Pass. You can read our review of the launch version here. Team Cherry hasn’t confirmed any free content drops or DLC for the title yet, though it has a “plan” for additional content.

Finding Fleas in Hollow Knight: Silksong is a multipart quest that Hornet will revisit time and again for a variety of rewards and unlocks. With 30 Fleas scattered across Pharloom, you will be criss-crossing the map in search of them.

This guide is a comprehensive listing of the locations of all 30 Fleas to be tracked down in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Bellhart

At the very top of Bellhart, in the upper left corner of the chamber. The Lost Flea is held behind a destructible wall.

Bilewater #1

Beginning from the tall silo at the bottom of Bilewater, take the mid-level passage on its left wall and continue left and up through the area. The Lost Flea is waiting behind a destructible wall.

Bilewater #2

Close to the top of Bilewater, start from the Bench and head to the right. In the large chamber circle around to go right and through the swamp. Once you can begin climbing, push towards the top left to find the Lost Flea room.

Blasted Steps

This Lost Flea is at the apex of the top-most silo in Blasted Steps, in a tiny niche. You will require a combination of Clawline, Cling Grip, Drifter’s Cloak, or Faydown Cloak depending on your skills, to reach this location.

Choral Chambers #1

Start from the top left Bench in Choral Chambers and head right into the tall shaft. Near the bottom is the route to the Citadel Spa, but just above that is another route left. Follow it to the opposite end of the chamber. In this shaft, head up and right to the very end of this room to find the caged Lost Flea. Requires Drifter’s Cloak, Faydown Cloak, and Swift Step.

Choral Chambers #2

Back in the tall shaft from the previous Lost Flea, climb about halfway up the left wall until you locate a destructible section on the right wall. Smash through and activate the fan, then return to the main shaft to continue ascending towards yet another destructible wall on the right. Ride the wind with your Drifter’s Cloak to the next Lost Flea.

Craw Lake

Platform upwards using the balloons to the top right corner of the Craw Lake chamber to find this Lost Flea.

Deep Docks #1

On the far left of Deep Docks, but you can only access this area by first breaking a wall in the lower left corner of the middle silo to the west of the Bell Beast Station. You will be jumping across lavafalls to reach the Flea.

Deep Docks #2

From the Bench near the top left of Deep Docks, proceed through the passageway towards the right. In the very next chamber, the Lost Flea is diagonally opposite the entry point in the top right corner. Drifter’s Cloak or Swift Step required.

Deep Docks #3

On the extreme right of Deep Docks on the border with Far Fields. This general area requires a Simple Key to reach, as well as Clawline and Cling Grip for platforming.

Exhaust Organ

From the Bench in the Exhaust Organ, proceed left and upwards to reach the wrecked cage. Use it as a stepping stone to continue upwards and left. Cling Grip to the very apex of this wall until you can go left again. Drop down carefully to avoid the trap at the bottom, the left again. Platform some more with Cling Grip and Swift Step to find the entangled Lost Flea.

Far Fields #1

Proceed left from Pilgrim’s Rest and across the main shaft to the other side, and continue into the next main chamber. Head down from here into a small silo, and look for a destructible spot on its right wall in order to enter a secret room with the Flea.

Far Fields #2

Beginning from the Rest once more, head in the opposite direction this time towards the right. Go across the path leading down and further right for the second Lost Flea from this region. Requires Cling Grip and Drifter’s Cloak.

Greymoor #1

At the very apex of the left tower in Greymoor is a tiny chamber holding the caged Lost Flea.

Greymoor #2

Head right from the apex of the Greymoor lift to find the Lost Flea named Kratt.

Hunter’s March

When entering via The Marrow, this caged Lost Flea is located along the path heading right, at the top right of the very first chamber. Use the flowers as stepping stones to avoid the thorns.

Memorium

At the apex of the large domed chamber which is the highest point of the Memorium itself. This caged Lost Flea is massive and is a mini boss fight itself.

Mount Fay

In central Mount Fay, as you proceed left through the long tunnel, rather than dropping down, Cling Grip the left wall and head upwards into the ice to find this Lost Flea.

Putrified Ducts

A named Lost Flea called Vog is located at the very top of Putrified Ducts. She is only findable if the Flea Caravan is currently in Putrified Ducts as well, which takes 25 returned Lost Fleas to accomplish. To reach her, you will need to allow Hornet to be grabbed by the vines that will pull her up along the way. Requires Clawline, Cling Grip, and Faydown Cloak as well.

Sands of Karak

From the Blasted Steps Lost Flea location, simply enter the Sands of Karak and immediately bear right. Platform your way upwards and right to reach the niche with the trapped Lost Flea.

Shellwood

Setting out from the Bellway in Shellwood, proceed to the right and into the large shaft ahead. Head downwards and towards the right side wall of this shaft. Cling Grip, Drifter’s Cloak or Faydown Cloak will come in handy to reach the entangled Lost Flea.

Sinner’s Road

This Lost Flea is caged in a chamber on the right side of Sinner’s Road. Head to the right-most silo and then down the right wall past the broken cages to reach the area.

Songclave

Hiding in an alcove in the top right corner of the massive chamber to the right of Songclave. Requires Clawline and Cling Grip in order to platform to the location.

The Marrow

At the very apex of The Marrows, in the top right of the chamber, with some platforming required to reach the Flea.

The Slab #1

In a chamber on the middle left of The Slab. Avoid using the Heretic Key on the lock there and proceed across the bridge instead to reach a circular entry point leading to the caged Lost Flea.

The Slab #2

Directly above the bottom-most Bench in The Slab. Requires Cling Grip and Faydown Cloak to reach this Lost Flea.

Underworks #1

Left of The Cauldron, at the bottom of the wide silo. Take the passageway heading further left and across lava. The Lost Flea is trapped in a small niche at the very end of this gauntlet.

Underworks #2

This section of Underworks can only be accessed via Wisp Thicket. From the Bench there, go left and across the passage to Greymoor. In the next chamber make your way upwards and further left towards the exit to Underworks. There will be a mechanism you can use to travel up and to the chamber with the trapped Lost Flea. Requires Clawline and Cling Grip.

Whispering Vaults

From The Stage head right towards the main silo, and take the passageway directly above the one you emerge from, back towards the left. In this vast chamber, the Lost Flea is located in the top right corner, but you will need to make your way to the top left and circle towards it. Requires Clawline, Cling Grip, Faydown Cloak, and Swift Step for the platforming.

Wormways

At the bottom of the tall silo on the right side of Wormways, you will find a destructible wall leading further right. In the chamber at the end, is a creature holding the Lost Flea captive.

Saving your first five fleas will complete the Wish and set the Flea Caravan on a journey to the next destination of Greymoor, with Hornet riding right along with them. Returning a total of 15 fleas earns you the “Flea Finder” trophy/achievement and sends the caravan to Blasted Steps, while 25 freed fleas will dispatch it onwards to Putrified Ducts.

Finding all 30 Lost Fleas will earn you the “Fleafriend” trophy/achievement, as well as the Egg of Flealia from Fleamaster Mooshka, which reduces the Silk consumption of Silk Skills, but only while at full health.

Those are the locations of all 30 Lost Fleas to be found in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Get through every single locked door in Hollow Knight: Silksong with this guide to the locations of all keys and Simple Keys.

You will come across a number of barred doors that will arrest your progress in Hollow Knight: Silksong. The keys that unlock these doors are scattered across Pharloom, some in the possession of merchants or enemies.

This Hollow Knight: Silksong guide is a complete listing of all key items and Simple Keys, and their locations.

Architect’s Key

Rotary key of the Architects. Opens their Chapel in the Underworks.

Unlock the Architect in the Underworks with this key acquired from the Twelfth Architect himself. This is where you will find the Architect’s Crest.

Bellhome Key

Key to a restored bell above Bellhart.

Complete the Bellhart donation related wishes and speak with Pavo to exhaustion, in order to receive the key to Hornet’s new home situated in Bellhart itself.

Diving Bell Key

Small worker’s key. Unlocks the door to the diving bell in Deep Docks.

Required to access the diving bell in the Deep Docks, which in turn opens up the path to reach The Abyss. After unlocking Act 3, return to the last bench and locate Ballow in his new spot above the Bell.

Simple Key #1

Rusted key of common design. Can be used to open a range of simple locks.

Degraded by time, it will break after a single use.

The earliest Simple Key can be simply purchased from Pebb in Bone Bottom for a steep 500 Rosaries.

Simple Key #2

Another easily purchasable key can be had from Jubilana, as soon as you unlock her store by completing “The Wandering Merchant” wish. This location is in Songclave within the Choral Chambers.

Simple Key #3

This key will require defeating a Roachkeeper. To reach this fight, head to the pinnacle of the tallest shaft in Sinner’s Road.

Simple Key #4

The last of the Simple Keys is located on the far right end of Sands of Karak. Having Clawline will be necessary to reach the hidden destructible wall at the apex of the tall shaft near the Pinstress.

Surgeon’s Key

Discarded key of the Whiteward. Opens the sluice beneath the operating theatre.

Access The Unravelled boss in the bottom left of Whiteward with this key that is found on a corpse located diagonally opposite in the top right of Whiteward. Requires Clawline to reach.

Key Of Indolent

Key with the mark of ‘Indolent’. Opens the way to certain cells and passages of the Slab.

One of two unique keys to be found in The Slab, the Key of Indolent is located in one of the dead end passages on the left side, about halfway down. Simply head left when you encounter Grindle on the other side of a locked door.

The Key of Indolent opens up three doors in The Slab for further exploration.

White Key

Finely crafted metal key, shaped to resemble a surgical implement.

Grants access to the Citadel’s Whiteward.

Another key from Jubilana, this key unlocks entry to the Citadel’s Whiteward. You can actually acquire it for free, if you stumble upon it in Choral Chambers on a corpse, but only before completing “The Wandering Merchant” wish.

Those are all of the unique keys and Simple Keys to be found in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Unlock all of the six silk-consuming missable abilities of Hornet with this guide for Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Silk Skills work just like Tools in Hollow Knight: Silksong and must be mounted upon a Crest in the white slot while resting on a bench before Hornet can use them. Unlike Tools, they deplete Hornet’s Silk meter which itself is replenished by attacking enemies, for the most part. Finding these Silk Skills is a task however, as they are won from secret bosses or by binding idols in secret locations.

This Hollow Knight: Silksong guide is a complete listing of all six of the missable Silk Skills, their locations, and pre-requisites.

Cross Stitch

Deflective technique of a creature spun from thread. Bind Silk around the needle to deflect enemy attacks and instantly strike back.

Block incoming attacks and immediately counter with a quick strike.

Defeat the Phantom secret boss in Bilewater’s Exhaust Organ in order to acquire the Cross Stitch Silk Skill. Requires the Needolin to traverse the maze of The Mist.

Pale Nails

Technique taken from the primal source of Silk. Spin talons from thread that seek out enemies.

Create sharp talons of Silk that automatically fly toward and strike enemies.

Located at the pinnacle of The Citadel in The Cradle, defeat Grand Mother Silk and then bind her Grand Mother Silk’s Arm. Requires the Silk Soar Ancestral Art to reach the location.

Rune Rage

Forgotten Weaver technique. Sew rending runes upon one’s enemies.

Mark enemies with Silk runes that tear into them, dealing continuous damage.

Defeat the First Sinner secret boss located within The Slab in the bottom right chamber.

Sharpdart

Deadly Weaver technique. Pierce through enemies in a blur of blade and Silk.

Dash forward in a blur, releasing a Silk blade that pierces through multiple enemies.

Inspect an idol located at the end of a passage in the middle left of Wormways. Requires either Clawline or Faydown Cloak to reach the area and Needolin to get the door open.

Silkspear

Deadly Weaver technique. Throw the needle forward with force amplified by coiled Silk.

Attack by throwing the needle forward. Silk will be expended.

Inspect a structure located in the upper right in the vicinity of the Druid’s home. An essential Silk Skill to clear obstructions and facilitate further exploration.

Thread Storm

Deadly Weaver technique. Cast the needle in a whirl of Silk around oneself, lashing foes.

Attack by whipping a storm of Silk around.

Inspect an idol located at the apex of Greymoor’s right side. Use the chained balloons to ascend from the bottom, while carefully avoiding the thorns along the way.

Those are all six of the white Silk Skills to be unlocked in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Traverse the world of Pharloom with ease using this guide to finding the Map and Ancestral Arts in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Traversing Pharloom is the greater part of your adventure in Hollow Knight: Silksong. With the world completely obscured and dozens of locations that are either hidden or out of the reach of your initial abilities, you will have your work cut out for you.

This guide for Hollow Knight: Silksong is all about unlocking the Map as an item, and the most crucial of Hornet’s Ancestral Arts related to traversal.

Map, Quill, And Compass

Map of Pharloom and quill for recording one’s travels. When resting at a bench or elsewhere, the map will be updated with newly discovered areas.

The Map can be acquired from the NPC Shakra, who is initially located at the junction of Grotto’s Bone Bottom and The Marrow. This requires the defeat of the Bell Beast first, but if Shakra is still missing, just ring for the NPC to appear.

You will initially purchase the Map specifically for Grotto, and additional maps for subsequent regions each time you stumble upon Shakra within those locations.

You will also need the Quill, which is sold separately, in order to perform map updates automatically when resting.

Finally, you will need the Compass to accurately determine Hornet’s own position on the map.

Sprint or Swift Step

Sprint at blinding speed, beyond one’s natural limits.

Chase down prey and leap great distances.

Hornet’s first Ancestral Art will be required in order to more easily unlock further abilities. The Swift Step Ancestral Art is located at the top middle of the Deep Docks. This ability allows for Hornet to sprint or dash, both on the ground or while airborne, as well as extending her jump distance.

Glide or Drifter’s Cloak

Flare the cloak to ride strong winds or glide gracefully.

Speak with the Seamstress at her blimp in Far Fields to initiate her quest “Flexile Spines”. Return to her with the required loot to collect the Drifter’s Cloak Ancestral Art.

Wall Jump or Cling Grip

Cling to sheer surfaces and leap to rapidly scale heights.

The Cling Grip Ancestral Art is located at the pinnacle of Shellwood. Once there, defeat Sister Splinter, then proceed all the way left till you can circle clockwise back right again, in order to reach the top of the platform in the center of the main chamber.

Grappling Hook or Clawline

Fling the needle as a harpoon and launch forcefully towards it. Silk will be expended. Strike enemies to replenish Silk.

The Clawline Ancestral Art is located in the heart of The Cauldron at the Underworks. After unlocking access to the zone via Whiteward, proceed left and continue counter-clockwise through The Cauldron.

Double Jump or Faydown Cloak

Fabled feather down, layered within the cloak. Leap again while airborne. Soar above foes. Reach new heights. Strike from above.

The Faydown Cloak is required in order to perform double jumps, a critical ability if you hope to reach the location of certain items and secrets. Every other traversal related Ancestral Art is required for the platforming sequence that leads to the Faydown Cloak Ancestral Art which is located at the very top of Mount Fay’s right side.

That is how to unlock the Map, and the various traversal Ancestral Arts in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
